One of the two or three theaters I go to in Denver to see an indie film or documentary, yes. But little things do bother me. An example would be how today they had times posted outside for this past weekend. Well, this was not made clear (the dates were in tiny font) and there was nothing stating todays times. So I waited outside for half-an-hour so I could catch a 2:00 showing. Well... when the doors should open for a 2:00 they were still locked. It seems they wont open for hours more. No matinees until nearly 5:00 during the work-week. And this wasnt what was posted on their windows. First of all, they should post what is happening. Second, they should look into maybe having more than 1 matinee during the week? I would love to be able to connect with them more-so.

The Mayan Theatre is a treasure. A fantastic experience from top to bottom. You pay a reasonable price for a ticket to a show in a gorgeous theater decorated in a unique mix of Native South American and art deco styles. You can have a bourbon on the rocks while enjoying one of their excellently selected (and generally indie) films. This is the kind of experience that almost makes you forget how many things in America have just gotten shittier and shittier over the past 20 years. Dealing with cable companies, getting your genitals fondled by the TSA, even the nagging persistent knowledge that the TSA is spying on every word you write and every step you take is made more bearable by the fact that at least you can go see movies at the Mayan Theatre.

Cant believe nobody has mentioned how horribly cramped the seating in the upstairs theaters are. It really feels like youre stuck in the middle seat of an airplane between two fat guys, no matter where you sit. They really need to remodel to give guests reasonable legroom and space, because after about 10 minutes at a packed showing, claustrophobia sets in and you cant concentrate on the film. Id be more comfortable watching a film on the floor of my kitchen. I love that this theater is independent and shows quality films, and love the decor. However, I dont know if I can continue to have such an uncomfortable experience here anymore. Worst part is they almost always seem to screen the more popular films upstairs, for no apparent reason.

This gets 5 stars not because its fancy or has the best seats or amenities but because I love themed, old-school movie theaters with a nice marquee and kitchy decorations inside. Its by no means lacking in good concessions or comfortable seats, but it doesnt have the cushy-style of a lot of newer theaters. It has an extremely friendly staff and shows great movies. I love the decorations especially in the main theater which is designed like a Mayan temple.

Vintage feeling. The architecture of this building is exquisite. Definitely preserved nicely. The sound on the movies are far from fantastic but I understand this is not a contemporary theater either so the experience is nice. The prices are reasonable and there is a bar where you can meet, have a drink and relax after or before a movie. The only cons: parking. Theres none. Meters around or park far and walk. Not ideal for a movie theater.

This is such a cool theatre with an interesting and unique selection of movies! Im always drawn to the movies they offer and there is a unique ambiance inside. My only issue is I find the seats to be extremely uncomfortable and cramped. It is probably fine for most people, but I have back problems and was unable to sit in those seats. Im bummed that its not an option for me because otherwise I think it would be my go-to movie spot.

Love this historical movie theater, originally built in 1930. There are three theaters - one larger, main theater downstairs, and two smaller theaters upstairs. The Mayan usually only shows two main films at a time, and they are often of the independent variety which is nice because Denver doesnt have many theaters dedicated to the indie circuit. I only wish I lived closer to the Mayan so I could catch more flicks there!

Seeing a movie at the Mayan is a must for anyone! The nostalgic theaters in town are an experience that is not to be missed. Go, and go often! I love the unique concessions and especially the bar upstairs! The legroom in the upstairs theater could definitely be improved. Im short and felt cramped. But it wont keep me from experiencing the indie movies here - Id rate it 6 stars if I could! Best popcorn in town!

Dont get me wrong, The Mayan isnt a bad theater. Its just unfortunate that its the only game in town to see independent movies. If youre expecting a modern multiplex, youre going to be sorely disappointed. Parking is the biggest obstacle here. Plan on arriving early to find a spot on the packed streets. Still recommended though if you cant find the movie you want to see playing anywhere else.

The Mayan is probably one of my favorite spots in Denver. Ive often found really interesting movies here, all of which have been great. Its a really good spot for a date, as well. The bar is decent, if a bit expensive, and the theaters are clean. The staff seem to be very good at their job, and usually give great info on upcoming events and movies.

Had a great time at the Landmark Mayan Theater. The experience was exactly as i anticipated. The guys working the concession were very polite and helpful. The theater is definitely a throwback to days gone by. Love the cocktail bar on the 3rd Floor. Happy Hour 3-6 p.m. Seats and Screen were nice!! ENJOYED our visit!! Definitely will return!!

This is the best theater in Denver! The historic landmark has an amazing mix of art deco themed off Mayan civilization (hence the name) decor that takes you back in time. With the red velvet seats adding a punch of elegance. Always showing some of the best indie films-- I would highly recommend. Bonus: they serve beer, wine & alcohol upstairs.

First and most important thing to note: You can drink here!!! This is a great old Denver theatre. The movies are generally independent (which given the crap that comes out of Hollywood that isnt necessarily a bad thing). Its nice to be somewhere that doesnt use every single opportunity to market and commericialize things.

We always enjoy watching movies at the Mayan. It is an authentic relic updated just enough to make it safe and, we hope, economically viable. However it should be called the Maya Theater. The word Mayan refers only to the language spoken by the Maya people. The word Maya is both singular and plural. Honest.

Historical landmark, done up to remain functional and artistic. Full Bar upstairs, 3 movie rooms which include 2 small rooms and 1 grand theatre. Typically artistic off the beaten path movies are shown. Perhaps not your summer blockbuster, but probably a Sundance Festival award winner. Love this place!

A great historic location to watch movies. They have a great bar with specialty themed drinks inspired by the films that are being shown at any given point. A member of the staff introduces every film before it starts, and they are all very knowledgeable; every introduction can be a learning experience.

There is no place better than this vintage old theater for watching movies that really matter, and you can kick back in the theater with a glass of wine or beer to boot, and the staff are all friendly, legit movies lovers. The Mayan is a special place, a real Gem in Denver.
