Sept 17 Update to my review posted previously. Despite all the previous problems weve had, we decided to go back to the Broadway Cinema to see Complete Unknown--a so so art film. To make sure there were no problems like the special event issue that I wrote about before (wrote about the very uncomfortable seats also) I looked on the their website to get the start times before driving 15 miles downtown. The time was listed as 3:00 pm. Okay, off we go. We get to the box office and the start time says 2:00 pm. Once again were shafted by the Broadway Cinema. What else are we suppose to do to find out when a movie is starting, and if there are any changes or conflicts? Of course we had to pay for parking along with the cost of the drive plus absorb all the wasted time. In the past when I asked about the bad seating in theater 5 in particular, I was told the vendor was coming back to fix them. I was told that 3 times. Of course that was a load of bull. The seats never have been fixed, nor will they likely ever be, so between that and the driving down there and leaving with nothing, were done. End of story. We can simply wait for the movies to be distributed on some other net source and watch them on our home theater. At least its comfortable! 1st review in August 2016 Ive been going to the Broadway Cinema for a very long time. Unfortunately since they changed the seats, the theaters are very uncomfortable. Theater 5 is the worst. If you care about your back, stay away from 5 for sure, and the rest of the screens are no picnic. The other day I went there for an afternoon show, and when I got there they told me it was canceled because of a special event. After driving all the way down there, I was less than happy to have wasted my time and travel expense. Rather than offer me a pass to a show on another day, or even free popcorn, the woman in the ticket booth suggested I hang around for 2.5 hours and go to the next showing. She quickly offered to sell me a ticket for that one. Really! Broadway Cinema has great management!

This place is funny. Its an independent movie theater, and everything about them enforces the point of "independent." For instance, they have a full cappuccino bar. Sure, they have the staples of popcorn and candy, but they also have kale chips, and organic curry popcorn from locally sourced corn. The location of this theater is great. Right in the heart of downtown, next to Copper Onion and Copper Commons, so if you want to have dinner before watching your documentary on Himalayan ice sculpting, or just a libation, you can easily accomplish that. Inside is spacious and clean. For some reason, I was expecting cramped and musty...blame it on my judgmental nature. I was actually there to watch Tickled, a documentary on professional tickling. No, Im not joking. This is what I was there to see. I enjoyed it, but I didnt eat kale chips...so I suppose my experience could have been even better.

When parking at the parking structure that the business had, I saw no signs regarding payment they accepted. When I processed to exist and pay the attendant I was told that it was cash only. The attendant then made me go get cash from an atm, when I mentioned that they should think about putting a sign that says cash only, the attendant showed me a little sign that says cash only. Though this sign is only visible once youve pulled into the parking structure and cant really back up. The company might consider putting cash only outside before you actually pull into the parking structure, Perhaps right by the sign they had on cost of parking.

Broadway, is of course invaluable culturally to SLC. A problem I have and maybe the only one is the "hipster service" I get there. They tend to hire these young people who have this cool indifference. Youll go to the ticket counter and theyll be reading something(very hip book Im sure) and they make you feel as if youre interrupting them. Another example. I waited maybe ten minutes while the girl behind the ticket counter smoked 2 cigarettes. She was off to the side and sat watching me waiting. Id rather let the Twilight Lounge employ these people. Also, a few more foreign films.

This theater doesnt have the stadium style seating that youve grown accustomed to at bigger theaters, but thats about its only downfall. The staff is always nice and friendly, and they play the movies that people want to see! Some movie theaters in Utah are too conservative to play controversial documentaries but this theater always delivers. Fair prices too, they dont screw you like the big guys. Perhaps the biggest plus though is you dont get the obnoxious high school crowd much here, usually a more mature crowd that comes to enjoy the movie.

We forgot our ticket for a pre-screening of a movie. I asked them if by some small chance we could get in to watch it and I could bring the ticket tomorrow. They actually let me do that! I couldnt believe it. The staff here is really great and friendly. I brought my ticket back the next day and they were quite glad to see it. lol I would recommend this theater for their selection of movies that most theaters dont show and for the staff. It is run down, but it doesnt distract me from the movie or having a good time.

The Broadway Centre Theatre is my favorite! The staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy and chill. The concession are the best and the popcorn is popped in coconut oil which is a big plus. To be a member of the Salt Lake City Film Society has been the best experience. I look forward to the films coming out every week and the special events that they do so well. If your not a member, become one as it will truly enrich you life.

An Independent theatre, the Broadway provides an elevated movie-going experience. From the wide range of concessions, to the thought-provoking films on offer, the Broadway is the definitive Independent Theatre in Salt Lake City. The Broadway Theatre is operated by the Salt Lake Film Society, meaning that it is a theatre for movie-fans by movie-fans. If youre looking for a great night out, consider a movie at the Broadway!

This is the best theater in the state! Its one of the only theaters in the state that plays independent movies. My wife took me here for the first time this year, and I was very impressed. The concession stand has a lot of variety. They have a lot of things you wont find at another theater. Feel free to park in the parking garage next door (to the east), but remember to get the parking ticket validated by the ticket taker.

The Salt Lake Film Society offers something so valuable and unique to Salt Lake City that it would otherwise be without - independent film. The Broadway Centre theater is clearly run by passionate film buffs that want to provide our great city with films that arent offered anywhere else in the city. The Broadway Cinema would be one of the first places I would recommend for tourists visiting SLC.

It may have old creaky seats. But the atmosphere, the sound, and the unique selection of films make up for it. I saw an anime film called Your Name. I previously had to walk out on this film when viewing it elsewhere due to poor theatre design. Im glad I came to Broadway Centre to give the movie another go. Its a beautiful film and it was definitely the right venue for it. Thank you!
