Just visiting in the area for Christmas and really wanted to see "La La Land." This was the only theater around that was showing it and I am glad that I took the time to find my way to their doorstep. It does have an old-fashioned theater field with a little ticket window. There were small touches like an "Actresses" and "Actors" signs above their respective restrooms that made it feel really intimate and not a typical big box "just-gimme-your-money-be-quiet-watch-the-movie-and-get-out" type experience. The seats werent the over-kill deluxe recliners some other movie theaters seem to be overcompensating with, but just simple comfortable cushion seats which just added to its appeal. I wish I had a movie theater where I lived with as much character!

While we prefer Midtown Arts for most of our art cinema experiences, Tara often plays flicks you wont see on any other screen in Atlanta -- and plays them ... and plays them ... and plays them. Seriously, dont rush to see anything here; itll be on one of their four screens for weeks and weeks. The staff is fairly friendly (Jeff, who takes tickets at the door, is a favorite of ours), and the seats are more comfortable than in most theaters. You can still get a pretty good "big screen" experience here if youre in the right theater, but at least one of the screens, created by subdividing what used to be one screen, is cramped and the auditorium is a bit shallow. If somethings playing you want to see, dont hesitate to go here.

This is my absolute favorite theater in Atlanta to go see films! I often will go by myself (a favorite pastime of mine) and have never been disappointed. You wont see major blockbusters here which is why I love this place. If youre into Sundance/Independent/Foreign films this is a great spot to catch those films. No you wont find reclining seats or 3D movies at UA Tara but thats what makes this place so appealing. Many a rainy Sunday afternoon I find myself drawn to this place over and over again. Do yourself a favor and become well acquainted with this theater - you wont regret it, I promise.

The second you walk through the doors they immediately surround you by old movie posters and other fun old movie paraphernalia. All this simply enhances the overall film going experience. The theaters are always clean and well kept, plus the seats are super comfortable. Since they only show good films, the experience is not sullied by the crappy movie trailers that would confront you at most theaters (cough! cough! Twilight cough! cough!). The only downside is it rarely has more than 4 movies running at a time, but theyll all be worth your while.

UA Tara is reminiscent of the theaters of old......cozy, only a couple screens, dark, but still full of life. The seating area in the front is a nice touch while looking at the vintage pictures all around the lobby. It can get a little toasty if there are a lot of people but its typically not THAT crowded on a regular day. If you are looking for more "mainstream" movies, you probably wont find them here but if you like a good indie, vintage, etc type then this is the place. Great date night spot also!

So many of the best movies Ive ever seen I saw here. Movies that you wont see elsewhere. And I would also like to give the people that come here to see movies like me 5 stars as well. The best crowd consistently, friendly, interesting to talk to, well mannered, and never exhibiting the cringe worthy behavior thats become standard at the other theaters. Crying babies, using cell phones, talking instead of whispering, always leaving a negative mark on your movie experience. Never at Tara.

Love love love the Tara! Classic old school theater featuring consistently great movie choices. If you are looking for state of the art stadium seating, food and drink delivery, IMAX etc. This is not the place for you. If you want to enjoy a good movie that you may not have even heard of this is the spot. We have been here a dozen times at least and only saw one movie we didnt care for (Loving...sorry but it was horrible). Great spot for date night.

I loved it going here. I came to this theater to see a film that is in limited release and it was the closest theater showing the movie. This theatre only shows limited releases or indie films. From what Ive seen the customers are mostly elderly and thats not a bad thing since it made for a very peaceful environment and great movie going experience Ill likely come back!

Friendly staff, but HORRIBLE parking. Be sure to get there at least 30 minutes earlier if you plan on watching an exclusive movie only available here. I got there 10 minutes before the showing time (I had bought my ticket online, so there was no need for the line, but I ended up looking for a spot for 30 minutes. There are many, many cars in the plaza.

Listen, this place is all about showing intelligent, noteworthy films. The seats are creaky. The floors are sticky. The movies are some of the best in the area. Think Cannes, Sundance and any other credible film festival. Go to AMC Phipps for mainstream movies and reclining chairs. Come to the Tara to be properly entertained by the big screen.

um its the same with the regal cinemas 24 but there is one thing that is different about it, it only has 4 to 6 rooms, I know its Tara but the other Taras are alot better, I gave it a 2 because I got invited to see The rocker at school!

Love that this is a movie theater meant to show non-mainstream movies. I have seen several really great movies here. The service is great, it is just like when I was a kid. I like the atmosphere.

Another Atlanta theatre jewel. Great film selection, and films tend to stay a while, so if you thought you missed one- take hope! Publix next door-- perfect for sneak snacks (;

One of the best cinemas to go to while in Atlanta. They show independent/foreign films but the atmosphere is great. Would rather come here than any other theatre in Atlanta!

Went with my wife to see The Artist. The theater itself is small but seating is comfy and clean. Would go again if the opportunity presents itself.

Great art cinema theater house, and its right next to a Publix, so you can stock up on cheap snacks, and load your purse or pockets... :)

This is probably only one of two theaters in Atlanta to play independent films. A great theater, playing great films.

I love this theatre for the same reason I choose all of the establishments I frequent-the spacious bathrooms!
