I can remember the fundraising to save this theatre, now it has grown to a fantastic arthouse Multiplex. What I love is they built drastically different capacity theatres to help pair films with demand (so they can run niche films longer, while leaving a larger theatre for a more popular/Oscar nominated film/etc). If you cant find parking on the street, there is a lot a block south on Howell that Esquire will validate (it still costs $1 after validation).

Best place to see a movie in the city. One of the only places you can catch a film that isnt widely-released, which is awesome. They also carry fairly mainstream films as well. The offerings at the Esquire are usually so good that you dont even need to look at the schedule - just show up, buy a ticket to anything and enjoy. Its more than likely to be a great time.

I have been watching movies at the Esquire Theater for over 40 years. It is a great place to watch a movie. They select and show some wonderful movies, often now shown at other local theaters. The atmosphere is not as flashy as other movie theater but it is clean and has everything you need -- and it is affordable! GO!

The Esquire has an intimate local feel to it, that successfully bridges the gap between art house cinema and mainstream blockbuster. The theatres are generally small but great seating and good sound. The food options go from soda and popcorn to wine and upscale cheese n fruit. A lasting gem in Cincinnatis crown of arts.

Historic, cant beat it. The only complaint was the door in the projector room was opened a few times during our movie, casting light onto our screen. DEFINITELY get the popcorn. Its popped fresh with real butter, not old and stale like big box theaters do nowadays.

For what it is Esquire is great. They are friendly. They show the films that you expect to hear about through movie awards and sundance. Id love to see wider, more comfortable seats and a cooler bar, but I love old theatres so I get it!

Seeing a movie at the Esquire is a terrific experience. Popcorn is simply the best. The crowd here is usually very soft-spoken and kind. Except for the elderly who are invariable hateful, but such people are everywhere, what can you do?

The past few times Ive been there, the people in the projector room have been awful. Listening to music, talking very loudly, turning on the lights during the movie, and turning on a secondary projector DURING THE MOVIE.

One of the jewels of the neighborhood. I have been going for over 20 years and now I love that I can bring my teenage daughters to see great shows that might not have hit the big budget strip mall theaters!

This is a great theater in a really cool historic building. They always have a great mix of movies playing. They also have good quality projection systems with 4K resolution that look great.

Love the vintage, historic charm of this place. It is quite small and cozy but definitely worth stopping by if you enjoy eclectic and unique art deco architecture. Its a Cincinnati gem.

Intimate, local theater with a great selection of films. Some of the films arent shown in larger theaters. Good popcorn and you can also buy an alcoholic beverage from the bar inside.
JA

"Oldies" feel to it, which is nice. The prices are reasonable and the employees are friendly. They could work on the cleanliness. The theater wasnt cleaned prior to the showing.

Small, black box style movie spaces that show some popular movies, but also the niche films you dont always get a chance to see. Ive had some great dates here. Youll love it here.

A picturesque, old fashioned movie house. Most often indie or art films, the summer sometimes brings blockbusters. A local feel, small auditoriums, and a small bar. Love it.

Very laid back and arthouse feel to the place. They show both current popular movies and more obscure indie films. Great place to stop by for a movie if youre in the area!

Unique theatre with artsy film selections for big time movie lovers. Lots of indie flicks and under the radar films that get recognized during the awards season

Agreed. Great popcorn. OLD time atmosphere. However OLD people need to be less rude and not talk during the movie. I am 60 and embarrassed by how a few act.

Definitely gives you the old time theatre feel with the small size of the shows, could use a tad bigger seats though. Not comfortable or roomy at all.

Mostly independent films. Really the only place in town to see some of these movies. Facility is small, but well cared and in a great location.

A small cozy theatre which plays meaningful movies. Its less likely that youll see the latest Hollywood blockbuster here...which is good in a way

Nice little historic theatre that caters to the art house film goers. The seats could use some updating. Pretty uncomfortable after a while.

There is nothing better in this town than a night out in Clifton and a movie at the Esquire. Excellent alternative minded theater!

A gem in our town. Since the theaters are small, its almost like a private cinema showing. Good small food choices and good staff.
