This was by far the BEST experience Ive had at a Broadway show in New York. The theater is clean, modern and organized. The staff was overly friendly and helpful and despite the mass herds of people trying to go exactly where you wanted to go, the place never felt crowded or overwelming. While unlike other older theaters that have gothic architecture, beautiful murals on the ceilings and that unmistakeble smell of my grandmothers closet, the Gershwin is a tribute to the talent of Broadway. This updated, extremely modern and gray space shows off a room dedicated to the talents who adorned the halls and stage of the Gershwin. No, I would never call this theater beautiful or grandiose, but rather, unique. But hey, its the show that makes the place, right? Their specialty drinks at the bar had very creative names for the characters in the show, and though they were a little too sweet for my taste, I still ordered one for the glassware. The Wicked set is unreal. Amazing. There isnt a bad seat in the house to see the incredible time and care that must have gone into designing the set or the really cool dragon. Yep, its going to be expensive, but it is worth the value. I love, love, loved my experience here.

Very clean, staff friendly and helpful and the bathrooms were immaculate. We saw Wicked and it was a good play. The seats were kinda far but we were able to see the stage without issue. Seats are arranged to allow you to see over the person in front of you as well as be comfortable. Bathrooms are close to the theater so your walk isnt far. Very easy to navigate around once inside and escalators and elevators are in good spots for those needing them. Getting into the theater can be a line and a struggle because there isnt really a "line" more of a mass of people trying to get inside. Waiting in said line you are under the building so protected from rain and snow but it is open so wind will rip through and it could be cold. Leaving and hailing a cab is somewhat difficult due to many people standing around and visibility is difficult if youre not on the street. Using UBER is the best bet to get out of here or walk a block away and get whichever mode of transportation you wish. There are also rickshaws that will pick you up.

Al ver en Londres Wicked. Esta versión neoyorquina esta un par de escalones por debajo de la londinense. De todas maneras. Wicked es una comedia musical encantadora y vale la pena verla. Lo que si eliminaría son las filas BBB y CCC que están a ambos lados del teatro. La visibilidad es muy mala, los actores te tapan escenas importantes y se ve todo lo de detrás de bambalinas. Una pena pagar 170 dólares por una ubicación que no deja disfrutar del espectáculo en plenitud.

Following what others have said, if you have to go to the bathroom; leave before the 1.5 hour mark or after the 15 minute intermission as you will be 1 of about 300 people in line for the 6 bathroom stalls they have. Should you desire water, we were told we could not bring in our bottle of water, rather at the bar inside we could purchase one for 5 dollars or use the water fountain which was not working well. Lesson learned, they dont search you for these things unless you mention them. Gershwin has no bad seats in terms of viewing, but the higher the less clear the faces become as with any theatre. The real fun begins when the show ends and the herd of 1900 people walk/push out to get to the 12-20 waiting bike rickshaws, street performers and people hawking clothing from the show. All in all, a good show though.

Came here for Wicked. Unlike most Broadway theaters with an entrance on the sidewalk, and similar to the Minskoff Theatre, the entrance to Gershwin Theatre is located in the underpass between 50th and 51st street. This is a massive theater with a very nice Land of the Oz theme running throughout the building (from the massive Oz map backdrop in the lobby to the green accents on all of the signs and lightings). Of all the Broadway theaters Ive been to, this is by far the largest, best themed, and most modern-looking one. The seats are very comfortable with plenty of legroom; the viewing angle is well elevated and positoned (we had a great view even from rear orchestra); the sound system/acoustic is also top notch. Its definitely worth a visit (and theyve got a terrific ongoing production to boot).

The Gershwin Theatre lives up to its name. The seats are comfortable and the quality of the theatre is high. Be aware of the fact the ladys restrooms are not very accommodating during intermission and the line is long. They need triple restrooms for the number of seats in this building. Wicked was a delight from the costumes to the sets. Every detail from the orchestra and live music to the light and sound were flawless. The story line makes up this musical and Broadway has taken this by storm making this a magical experience. The set design was so well thought out being simple in design, useful for several scenes and yet artistic enough and creative enough to be innovative. The actors were such a step above which is expected at this level of entertainment. Brovo!

Wonderfully Wicked.. Never been to this theatre and impressed with the layout in the theatre. There really isnt a bad spot for seating. The only issue is the long lines to get to the womens washroom. The intermission does not provide enough time for everyone to get to the washroom. They should add one or two more washrooms for women. Highly recommend to purchase tickets at the theatre not elsewhere. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis. On the 8th floor is a kiosk/ booth where they sell tickets for all the Broadway shows and such. They charge more than what the ticket actually cost. They didnt disclose that. So we ended up paying more than what we should have.

I saw "Wicked" at the Gershwin theater. The theater was a little hard to see from either 50th or 51st streets as well as the marquee signs somewhat small. However once I arrived at the entrance it was grand. The large covered drive and entry area are really nice especially for inclement weather. The foyer and grand staircase are done well, and the accompanying escalators fit in nicely. The rest areas and restrooms are also laid out well to accommodate people during intermission. The theater interior and seating are also laid out well for viewing and hearing live shows. Every word and note was easily heard.

I have been to many a Broadway play in my time, but Ive never been treated so rude or disrespectfully by broadway staff except at the Gershwin Theatre. Rude ushers literally yelling at patrons for asking simple "can you help me?" questions, inconvenient access to the actual theater, overpriced concessions (they wanted to charge me $39 for peanuts and water. You gotta be on drugs to pay that). Wicked is a BRILLIANT play. Its just a shame thats its playing at such a garbage theater, with such garbage people working behind the scenes to give you a truly garbage experience.

Theres not much to judge a theater on, so I really only have two criteria: leg room and view. Gershwin nails both of these easily! The leg room is so good people can almost walk into the row without you standing up (if youre tall youll probably have to stand). There are some theaters out there where my knees hit the seat in front of me, but not even close here. The view is great as well! We sat center mezzanine about halfway up and the view was great. Walking around the theater it honestly looks like theres not a bad seat in the place! Thats a huge plus in a theater.
