Wow. Played with a foursome back in August, we paid $59 each for the worst golf course I have ever set foot on! Greens were mostly dead, tee boxes were crabgrass & sand, the trees needed to be pruned badly as on several tee shots they obstructed your shot, fairways were hard pan or crabgrass, where is the greens-keeper? How is this course so bad? What happened? Played there 7-8 years ago, and it was OK, but now, unquestionably the worst course I have seen as far as maintenance goes! Way overpriced, obnoxious ranger, 90 degrees and the coolers were all empty with no one riding around in a snack/drink cart, confusing cart rules & NO distance indicators to the burnt out greens (not that it mattered), a truly awful experience. I will not be back, nor will any of my friends, and it is too bad because the course has potential. Many of the holes are "Target" holes, and no one has even trimmed the hazards so you can see your ball land on the other side! Come on! Basic upkeep! I heard a lot of rumors about what was going on there, but I dont care. Whoever owns this place is not putting any money back into the course, and that is a shame. DO NOT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY AT THIS DUMP!

Golfed here for the first time the other day. The course is very poorly marked. Almost no signage to point you to the next hole. One one hole we pulled the cart up to the left side of the green thinking the next hole was on the left. We realized our mistake and drove around to the other side, driving over some woodchips....no grass... some guy with two little kids in the cart drives up in a cart and starts harassing us. he greets us with "are you guys kidding?". at first I didnt know what he meant, but then he started giving us a hard time about not being on the cart path... I said we made an honest mistake and apologized I said "It was a mistake, its our first time here" and he said that wasnt good enough. ... I couldnt believe this guy acted the way he did in front of children . Unacceptable. this completely ruined my experience.I had a terrible round from there on because I was so upset with this guy. Were paying good money to golf here. I expect better directions and not to be hassled. Avoid this place, they are not running the course in the spirit of golf.

I began golfing when I was about 14 and for many years I refused to golf at Maplegate because the reviews of poor course conditions and angry, rude rangers terrified me. Now at 26, I play inexpensive par-3 courses because most of my money goes to student loans but I still play 18 once or twice a month and about half of the time I play 18, its at Maplegate. I have never had a bad experience at Maplegate other than torrential storms when the forecast was clear and slow groupon golfers in front of me. The staff is very friendly and the course is in very good condition for a public course in Massachusetts where you can still get a tee time in the winter most years. I never write reviews and I dont know anybody who works at Maplegate but it angers me that the Maplegate reviews seem to be just as negative as they were when they made me scared to play it as a kid. $39 at 3:00 on a Saturday for 18 and a cart is a steal. I will continue to golf at this course and hope the reviews dont scare other kids away from playing such a beautiful course.

This was my first time playing here, as its a bit of a drive for me, but a friend of mine lives near the course so I drove down to play. Some of the reviews had me a bit concerned before our round. Personally, I think the negative reviews are under-evaluating the course. Im not sure if those reviewers are accustomed to playing at private country clubs, but for a public course, this was in pretty good shape. The greens had been recently aerated and were slow, but they were in good condition. There were a handful of spots (a tee box, a few spots on fairways, and the back side of one green) that were in tough condition, but considering its fall and the course has seen a seasons worth of play, I dont think thats unreasonable. Plus, it looked like the course was on top of those areas and has already started repairs on most of them. Id play there again if I lived closer.

Played this course for my third time ever a few weeks ago. It was overall a terrible experience. I played on a Friday afternoon and by the time I got to the tee box on hole 4, there were 3 groups waiting to tee off. Ive never seen a course backed up like this on HOLE 4 in my life. Seems as if management seriously dropped the ball on assigning tee times. The course itself, also terrible. The back 9 wasnt as bad as the front 9, which had dirt tee boxes and fairways that were burnt. The greens felt like they hadnt been mowed or rolled all season. My putts were rocking side to side as it "hopped" to the hole. By hole 4 I wasnt in the mood to play anymore. My round took 5 hours. I will without a doubt never play here again, which is sad because the only positive thing about this course is its layout. A lot of potential but it appears all hope is lost with the current owners.

this place is so messed up... check this rule out..."You can walk and carry your bag at any time with the exception of Saturday-Sunday before 12:00 noon (drive carts are mandatory Saturday-Sunday mornings). Pull carts will be allowed Monday-Friday before noon only. If you tee off before 12 noon you can use your pull cart. After 12 noon, NO PULL CARTS ALLOWED! " i havent played here in 5 years, never will again, and all i hear is the conditions are getting worse and worse, the staff is still a bunch of jerks, and it is completely overpriced... such a shame, i live right down the street. stay away.

Maple gate is an interesting place to play. Online the course sells it self as a much nicer place to play. The price per round is all wrong unless you play the twilight. The club house is double wide with a deck. The parking lot is dirt. The fair ways are hard. The sand traps are just sand fairways as they are packed so tight.. The yard markers are spotty at best when you can find them. The course is not in good shape. On several times i received email notification on deals and when i went to play i was charged a more expensive price. I would stay away any time before twilight.

Played the course for the first time yesterday. Really liked the layout. The fairways were narrow in some spots, so it was very challanging. The greens were in great condition for a public course. The undulations on the greens made you pay close attention to the line and speed, even on the short putts. We traveled from the Norwich, Ct area to play here, because we like to play different courses all over New England. Our experience with this course is that it was worth the long trip. Locals have a real gem in their backyard!
