The Kentucky Theater is a Lexington classic. I love this theater. From the downtown locale, gorgeous marquee and the beautifully painted theater rooms a trip to the Kentucky is a short trip back in time. It is by far our familys favorite place to watch a movie. Its also the only theater in the city that is going to be showing something different from the other Box cinemas. If you live in Lexington you need to visit the Kentucky Theater. Its truly one of this citys real treasures.

This place was so great I could not believe it! The amazing surround sound was so amazing that made my eyes and nose bleed to the point were my face was paper white. And oh my god, the lighting, so perfect I peed all over my seat (I hope you had fun cleaning up after me cleaning boy ;) ) and the popcorn, so sharp my mouth dripped of blood through out the entire movie. Just wow, this place was amazing. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING TIME. YoU gEt Two StArS :)

Always got to love a local "art house" theater. Its the only place in Lexington to see certain movies on the big screen. They occasionally have "blockbuster" movies but they tend to stick to more artsy fair. The concessions are great and reasonably priced. Ticket prices are much lower than the big theaters. The theaters are fairly updated, and seats are relatively comfortable. But the best thing about this place is that its local and caters to the community!

This is a wonderful building, architecturally, but I am extremely disappointed in content. Perhaps they dont have enough funding to offer a true venue of art films. They will have one movie running for two weeks and then add old movies which we all can find on Netflix or Hulu or even DVD, if anyone still does that. This is the only place available in Lexington that could be a true "art theatre" but maybe there is no audience for that.

Beautiful renovated old movie theatre. People are friendly. Its not your typical big cushy chair theatre. Its artsy & shows mostly small film festival type films. If your looking for a nice experience of history meets art this is the theatre for you. Close to pricey restraunts & in a quaint downtown atmosphere its a once in awhile place to "experience". If you prefer large screens & lounge chairs with easy parking go elsewhere.

You go here for the atmosphere and to support local. The theaters are obviously very dated compared to the large, contemporary theaters of today. Its a very cozy place to watch a movie on a date night. We love coming here every other month or so. If you are seeing a blockbuster maybe try another theater. If you are watching an indie film, this is the place.

This is a beautiful old world movie palace but with newly upholstered comfy seats. We love this place whenever we come to Lexington...and we see first rate new movies. What could be better than sipping a great bourbon sold at the theatre while comfortably enjoying a first run movie...unless you hit it on classic movie night. This is a winnet experience!!

I love this place and it only gets better. I viewed films at the Kentucky while attending UK in the 80s, and now I love going back to see films that will not be playing in my town. Great staff and snack bar! I love the building structures that have remained from the original construction.

Best movie spot in town. When I am around here even when its just walking by I get the stupidest looking grin on my face and I am instantly thrown back to when movies were worth watching. I wish I could sign up for a monthly kind of thing here then I would be in everyday watching movies.

A hallmark of the Lexington downtown. Theyre the only place to show art films or underrated runs. They also serve as a community service. They host the Summer Classic Film Series, One World Film Festival, Harry Dean Stanton Fest, Gods Goddard International Film Festival, and many others

A great old fashioned movie house with interesting architectural details, large screens, live stages, art gallery and an eclectic snack bar with OBC root beer and local wines. A great place to see independent or special interest movies you wont see at the franchise multiplex cinema.

There is nothing better than seeing any movie at the Kentucky! The ambiance reminds me of the old beautiful theaters I went to in Cincinnati growing up. The concessions are better than any of the big venues, and the people who run the theatre are so nice! It is simply the best!

Updated digital projection and new sound makes this place even better. In Feb. 2014, the main theater will have extensive seating replacements / upgrades. Otherwise, this is a great place to see a movie. Very nice staff, great environment, and wonderful film selection.

It had a very vintage feel. While I went to watch a movie, the screen was big and the stage was surrounded by curtains for plays. They serve beer & alcohol here, which is nice. The seats were comfortable. I went @ 7pm and it wasnt crowded @ all. It was noisy either.

Beautiful old movie theater in downtown Lexington. MY friends and I have been here many many times to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show at night and have made tons of fond memories here. Check it out if you have the chance - and Do The Time Warp, Yeeeaaaaaahhhh!

Such a beautiful old theater - it makes going out to the movies feel like an event worth getting off the couch & away from Netflix for a night well worth the effort! A nice selection at the concession stand & tremendous atmosphere make it great for a date night.

Great theater that has a beautiful interior, helpful and friendly staff, mainstream and alternative movies, good concessions that also include alcohol, and better prices than the big chains. Even better, it is locally owned and managed. Whats not to love?

Great theater with a unique selection of movies. The old theaters are ornate and beautiful. This place used to be a performance theater, but was converted to show movies. They serve alcoholic beverages and movie theater snacks at reasonable prices.

Plays a curated selection of new movies and special showings of "classic" movies, which is anything from the original Godzilla to Gone With the Wind to Serenity. Very cool atmosphere, and you can get win beer and bourbon to drink in the theatre.

Always have a wonderful experience here. Great current big titles and they often have things you cant see anywhere else. Plus they always look for ways to support the local community and the arts.

Beautiful historic theater in downtown Lexington. Excellent choice of films during the summer series. Sound suffers a bit due to acoustics of an old structure. Adult beverages are served :)

While historic and an essential landmark for Lexington, the ambiance is that of a decades old Italian restaurant that just cannot move on from the once-popular veal parmigiano.

While it may cost you a couple bucks extra this historic theater is a hidden treasure in Lexington. Its simply the only place to watch some great independent films in town!

Went to a showing of "To Kill a Mockingbird" the other night. The atmosphere is perfect for this type of showing, they even have an organist playing songs before the show.
