This is the first time Ive been to the Elgin Marcus Theater since they renovated the theaters with the new recliner seating. This is also the first time Ive ever asked for a ticket refund at a movie theater. I give the theater owners huge props for replacing the old uncomfortable theater seats with La-Z-Boy style recliners but take it all away for the fantastically awful seating arrangement. Wait... let me modify that statement by saying you should avoid at all costs the first two rows. Row one is literally like two feet away from the front of the screen. Row two (which was labeled row D for some weird reason on the seating charts) isnt much better. I happened to get a seat which was all the way against the wall and found myself staring up at the screen and being bombarded with front channel sound and virtually none of the rear or side speaker surround sound. It was terrible. If youre determined to go there avoid the first two rows! Youve been warned lol. Now they assign specific seats. You no longer have the option to choose your seat like in the past. Bottom line: So you will pay more for the advantage of comfortable seating but there are now less seats in each theater so unless you get there early or order on-line you might be disappointed. I think this situation is a failure unless youre lucky enough to get somewhere the two middle rows.

Ive become spoiled now when I see movies, looking for reserved seating and reclining chairs. Thats seriously the best way to do it. Marcus has that old theater feeling, probably because the building is old. I found reserving tickets online very easy. Youll pay a convenience fee unless you sign up for their club, which will waive the $1.50 convenience fee, and also allow you perks like drink refills and loyalty points towards free stuff. The theater is old, and although the luxury seats look somewhat worn, they are still very comfortable. A hair smaller than the seats down the road at AMC Lake In The Hills 12. I found the check-in process to be surprisingly simple. Just type in your code received via email, and it prints the tickets. AMC does this a bit better providing a code that is scanned on the way in (completely paperless). I didnt order any popcorn or refreshments, but I did see people bring an entire pizza to their seat. Apparently they sell all kinds of food here. Might be fun to enjoy the movie over dinner, but Im sure itll cost ya. I find it a bit pricier than the AMC, but can be more convenient due to location. All movies are $5 on Tues, and they ocassionaly play kids movies throughout the month (think Frozen, Toy Story, etc...). Good option as I dont know any other theater in the area that does this.

One of the best movie theaters Ive been to. In the main auditorium, they have an Ultrascreen DLX with Dolby Atmos sound. The screen size is actually larger than Rockfords AMCs IMAX screen and images are just as crisp. Dolby Atmos is also something to be experienced: theres speakers actually mounted in the ceiling which makes the surround sound even more immersive. I recently saw the 2016 version of the Jungle Book in the main auditorium, and it was amazing to hear the jungle come alive with the sounds birds chirping above me. They also have leather recliners, which straight up feels like youre sitting on your own couch at home. Due to the nature of the recliners, you have quite a bit of room between you and other audience members which I appreciate. No more fighting for armrests. They do offer reserved seating here, which means you can prebook your seats weeks in advance.

Ive found this place to be generally clean and enjoyable. Each theater here features reclining leather chairs, which are super comfy, and the cost is no different than competing theaters. They also have a great mobile app for buying your tickets in advance, which you can pick up from their automated kiosks when you arrive, thereby skipping the ticket lines! I like that Marcus uses a reserved seat system because it means I dont need to arrive early to get good seats. I especially love coming here for their fantastic $5 Tuesday movie deal! That price cant be beat - just be sure to buy your tickets in advance to secure a good seat (some might be sold out when you arrive). And, if youre a Marcus rewards member (its free to join!), they even throw in a free small popcorn!!!

My night was completely ruined a whole group of teens in the back row would not have shut up almost thru half of the movie they keep on Laughing till the point it was really distracting every time i turned around they keep laughing dropping stuff going up and down the stairs; i went to see Dark Skies in theater 1 and even before the preview i was looking across the isle and this dude legit light his lighter in the movie theater for like 1 second and scared the crap out of me. I really wasnt happy i couldnt even enjoy the movie that i spent 20.00 on. I must say rude people ruined my night and i let the employees know that that was the worst crowd ever. Never again going there unless its during the day with no crowds. Ashamed.

Terrible experience. Purchased tickets online to find out once we got to the theatre that the movie was in Spanish. Our mistake right? Wrong. Half of the theatre walked out because they didnt know either. The theatre was more than willing to refund our money if we could provide them with all of our food that was already consumed. This after they just told other movie goers from the same movie that they could keep their drinks and food but still get a refund!!! Why was I different? Are all of the "managers" not trained the same? I just wasted time and money from their mistake and somehow I feel like they did nothing wrong and its all my fault. There are 3 other theatres close by and I will gladly give them my money from now on.

Wow, how in the world does this theater receive any good reviews? This theater is horrible. A good portion of its screaning rooms are tiny, theyre dirty, the employees are rude, and EVERYTHING is completely over priced. How is it that a day before I am allowed to purchase a ticket to watch Bruno with only a college I.D, and denied the next when I go and purchase a ticket for The Ugly Truth. For those who havnt watched Bruno to put it into perspective it is like watching Porn, where as to the The Ugly Truth contained no nudity. A complete joke of a movie theater. Stick to going to Charles Town, better service, clean rooms, a fraction of the price compared to Marcus not to mention free refills on drinks and popcorn.

Have always been a fan until tonight. Ive been going to this theater for over ten years and defended it from nay-sayers the entire time. Until tonight. I was excited about the new changes, leather reclining chairs and all, bit there is a fatal flaw. The individual theater is at a minimum 30 degrees hotter than the rest of the building. I had to leave and ask in the middle of a movie if the air conditioning was on. I was laughed at by the staff. I attempted, against my better judgment, to continue watching the movie. Nothing improved. My date and I left the movie early, and asked for a manager. We were given tickets to a free showing, but I doubt they will be used after this.
