Based on customer reviews, Cinemark XD in Merriam, Kansas offers a generally good movie-watching experience with a few areas that could use improvement. The theater is particularly recommended for its affordable ticket prices and the "XD" experience. However, potential visitors should be cautious about data privacy and crowd management issues.

Hands down, the best value in the entire KC Metro area. I live only a few miles from this theater, but was an AMC fan, then I tried this theater one time. I find the entire experience to be fantastic. The ticket prices (now $4.25 for shows excluding weekend evenings unless youre going to a 3D or XD [more on this later] show) are significantly lower than any other place around, concession prices are comparable, and they have a grill area off to the side where you can get burgers, hot dogs, fries, wings and other assorted "food food" items, along with ice cream/milk shakes/etc. A burger and fries for me, popcorn and milk shake for my kid and drink runs less than $20, so its priced comparably to restaurants, and decent quality. Its also all made fresh. The "XD" experience is somewhere between normal theater and IMAX. The screen is slightly larger, picture quality is amazing and sound is -AWESOME-. Its slightly higher priced, but completely, 100% worth it for a film that you want the "cinema experience" in. Be warned, it can be VERY loud. The arcade is better than most theater arcades around, bathrooms are placed in good places throughout the entire theater and staff are friendly if on the younger side. I dont often go to movies during the peak hours like Friday and Saturday nights, so I cant speak to how the staff handles people who are disrespectful to other movie goers (talking, phone use, etc). - Edit- I just want to address a few reviews Ive read complaining about loud audiences at midnight showings and weekend showings. If you go to any of these kind of showings for a big movie (especially a movie targeting teenagers), expect to have a loud crowd. There is NO way to enforce rules on an entire sold out theater of 200+ effectively. Having worked in a movie theater before, its difficult enough to police small crowds with rowdy people. You dont want to kick them out, you dont want to let them stay, you dont want to make a scene and make a situation even worse. If you go to a midnight showing, or an opening weekend showing, dont expect it to be quiet, and dont down grade a theater because of the audience. Its that way at EVERY theater. I would recommend this theater to anybody, and often do.

If you see any kiosks within Cinemark that ask you to sign up for ANYTHING ...BEWARE. I recently signed up for a chance to win a motorcycle. The information like my name, address, telephone number, everything *required*, was sold to another company who then tried to get my credit card information and pay $198 for a "free" trip. Yet again another time-share scheme. I am truly disappointed that Cinemark allowed another company to come in, retrieve my information, and then sell it. Im assuming this is how they paid for the motorcycle, plus some. To protect the consumer, a more thorough screening of these "giveaways" should be implemented. I cringe at the thought of more incoming phone calls from telemarketers and if you signed up... you should be upset too. I am usually very secure with my information and feel dumb for being duped. Shame on Cinemark the first time... shame on me if I ever go back there again.

Last night went to see Nerve. They told me, my friend, and my pregnant girlfriend to wait in a line by the concessions because they were cleaning the theaters. They told us this at 10:20. Movie started at 10:50. Stood in line till about 10:55 and a lady asks us "Are you guys waiting for theater 10? And we say "No we are waiting for theater 4". Turns out we were waiting for no reason at all and she let us go. We get in the theater and its packed. Ridiculous. Then (by my own fault) I accidentally left my wallet in the theater. I call them this afternoon to find out I cant even reach them. Now I have to waste the gas to drive 30 min away when they could or could not have my wallet. Last time I lost my wallet they didnt make any effort to contact me and Im pretty sure an employee actually took money out of my wallet. Great theater, pretty crappy staff.

This place doesnt care for motorcycles. I and my father both park in the "fire lanes" all the time. See all other types of motorcycles park in the fire lane. Wouldnt think it would be a big deal. ( If you own a motorcycle, you know the cringing fear of some motorist swinging into a parking spot and hitting your motorcycle when they dont see it.) So If park in the "fire lane" with your motorcycle you will be asked to never come back and get the police called on you. (Funny, the office said he parks in the same spot every weekend too...) My father and I came here for years. NEVER again.

During the weekend especially Friday evening. The place is filled with Mexicans no offense. Ever since that bridge was built (forgot which one) all Ive seen mostly is Mexican wanna-be gangsters just hanging around outside loitering. During movies, especially a movie that is new that weekend is usually full of them on dates kissing and not even watching the movie. Not what I want to see when Im watching a movie. The daytime is much better. PROS: Cheap, Daytime pretty empty, Clean CONS: Friday nights are just horrible, Loitering and No officers to enforce trouble.

Clean theaters, comfy chairs, and great prices for the tickets, $4.50 for matinee tickets $6.50 for evening, easily beats out AMC. They may not have motorized reclining seats like AMC but the seats are still plenty comfortable and the price is fantastic. Definitely the place to go if you want to watch a movie, I havent had a single bad experience yet. Oh and another thing I personally like but other people may not, they dont do assigned seating, so you have to come a bit early to try to get the best seats if its a busy night.

I went here for the Hunger Games Midnight Premiere because everywhere else was sold out. Nice arcade and amazing photobooth. The concession stand is horrible, they dont restock often so some choices are out. This is a cheap theater with uncomfortable seats, atmosphere, and service. Yes, Im a high schooler. Yes, we were kind of loud. Most the staff are teenagers too. This isnt the place if you like a nice, comfortable & quiet theater with courteousness. Dont go here unless its a last resort or something. AMC is 10x better.

Avoid at ANY cost. This place is packed to the gills with annoying, hormonal teenages that think they are the funniest people on the planet. You will not enjoy your movie, as they are constantly flapping their gums and shrieking. The staff does not enforce any sort of civilized order, and while they did give us free passes to another movie at a future date and our money back, we didnt really see the point, as we never want to go back. Id rather pay for a movie and enjoy it, then see a free movie I cant focus on.

Poor customer service. Poor problem solving skills. The management appears to be unconcerned about customers. I purchased tickets and there where no seats for me and my 2 children to sit together. They refused to exchange my tickets for a later show. I would recommend choose a different theatre. My family, friends, co-workers and neighbors decided not to go here in the future. Because of there lack of concern. We will see if they are concerned when they lose money. I will get the word around.
