At first, the place was nice and staff friendly. I give them that. I ended up buying a nice $25 Severum (around 8/20/2015) from there and I put him with my cichlid tank I have. I have many types of awesome looking cichlids in a 55 gallon tank and at first things were going great and next thing I noticed he was being a little lazy by sleeping on the ground (2 days later) and I use my net to move him and check on him and noticed he was weak, so i moved him into a separate tank and a day later he died. Shortly after that, my other cichlids were dying as well, but I had my cichlids for well under a full year with no problems. Now I am out of a tank of cichlids (just 7 altogether 8/29/2015) I dont get too many fish too fast. I look for the big cichlids not the little ones in why I didnt have as many. So in the end that fish ended up killing all my fish. Never again. (just in case you were wondering, there no signs of ick and my water was on the up and up). When I called to explain on what happened, the manager could care less and wouldnt help at all. So make sure your fish are good before buying bc once you leave the door with your fish, that is where your service ends.

I have bought from them for several years. They have a better selection than other places....I buy salt water stuff. Forget PetCo or Petsmart. They do not compare and the staff at those places know next to nothing. Most of the people at Texas Tropical are very knowledgable and are concerned about what you plan for your tank so that they direct you in the right way. Most places will just sell you whatever. Texas Tropical people steer you away from things that will NOT fit with your desired tank and the inhabitants. They want you to have a successful tank. I just spent well over a thousand to set up a very large salt. They really steered us to what we needed and away from the stuff that was incompatable. They have the best prices around on aquariums and stands. I will be shopping there often. The only other place I shop for salts is Awanna Pets. Frank is really knowledgeable on the fish/inverts/mammals there.

Texas Tropical & Marine is our new Aqua Place to shop for our pond supplies and fish. We went way out of our way to find a place to give us knowledge about what we needed to begin the process of our pond making. We drove all the way out to Alamo Aquatic Pets on Bandera Rd to find that the store smelled really bad and no one helped us out. With feared to purchasing fish from Aquatic Pets because they might have been sick fish or had bacteria so we continued our search and found Texas Tropical & Marine just about right in our back yard. The people there are very helpful and helped us get the information we needed to begin we since have been back to purchase most of all our pond needs from here even rehomed 3 goldfish that came from one of their other customers ponds later that day! They are the BEST in my BOOK and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE THAT ASKES!

Well...... It is a fish store. Its packed like a New York Pawn Shop. Its busy, packed with stuff and interesting. The people are knowledgeable and helpful. Personally, Id advise some caution. We bought some Goldfish food that had mold just under the surface and it almost killed our fish. they became very sick. They exchanged the moldy food and were sympathetic. They sold me the anti-biotic to heal my fish too. They place is just so packed with stuff that I believe that some of the merchandise is aged. So, be careful. Yes, its stinky too. If you are sensitive, like my wife, dont go there. But, if you like tons of tanks, fish, fish toys, real neat tank stands, tons of pumps, food, etc. etc. etc., then this is your place. Double check your merchandise and enjoy a pretty darn good fish store. MRH

Godawful customer service. Employees seem like they have impulse control issues and hate the customers. Walmarts employees seem like they want to help you and want to be there more, and that says something. Relatively large stock of fish, some saltwater plants, still not cheaper nor better customer service and support than Fintique. Id go here if desperate for a specific item, but other than that even though I live a few blocks away Ill avoid it and head not that much further to West Avenue to go to Fintique or Basse to drop by Forever Pets. I get that a place with aquariums wall to wall is going to not be the cleanest, but everywhere else does far better. Do not recommend, my money will go to someone who wants me in their store and whose employees can show the same.

I just came from this place, and it was AWESOME! The saltwater fish variety was very good, and went on a Thursday incase that matters. Most importantly it had a large coral variety which is what i was looking. The staff was very friendly and helpful to an almost "Radar Oriley" degree. They could see by what you were looking at exactly what questions you might have had. I really like that they sold used tanks. That really helps me alot, because Im new to this I want to be frugal incase I suck at it. Ive been to different stores in town and so far this is my favorite. Its a small store, but they manage to have a TON of everything you would need to keep a fish alive, happy, and to decorate a tank. There is not an inch of wasted space at this place.

Seriously, can you get any more rude? Walked into the store at 5:30, and the rude employee kept picking up the mats we were standing on while trying to look at fish. Okay, one time sure... Maybe it was wet or whatever..but no... He does it again when we move down the isle. There are other sections to clean but he chose the ones right where we were standing. Might as well told us to leave. We have been customers for awhile, this guys gotta go! Rude rude rude!!! And he is the guy promoting on their Facebook?!?! Wow! Needless to say we wont be back! Sticking with South seas, World Class Aquatics, and Saltys for their A+ customer service in saltwater!

We visited the store today and we bought some freshwater fish. The store owner or what I guess is the owner was real nice and helpful. The staff member that helped us get our fish tried to upsell us on some fish that we were looking at. We were looking at getting five or six fish and he was saying that we needed more than that. The reason for the one star review is that all of the fish that we bought have ick. Unfortunately I had put them in my tank with the rest of my fish. I dont blame the owner for that because that is my fault. But its not nice to to pay premium prices for fish and have to treat them when you get home. Not a happy customer
