Rude employee! Waited a day and a half to post this review and let the venom drain out before posting. Even now I am in disbelief. We raised haplochromis moorii and Cyphotilapia frontosa since 1987, so I am not a rookie by any means until a hurricane changed our lives many years ago. Fast forward 10+ years, we just installed 2 of 8 possible tanks in the house, with the mindset of getting back to the passion of Haps & Frontosa again and $2000.00 set aside for fish. My wife and I decided to make this new journey memorable on Fathers day. We stepped foot into Alamo Aquatic Pets. I asked if the single Frontosa was the only one in the store. My question was met with a question. "What size is your tank?" Not sure which tank to put the Franny in, I stated 20 gallon knowing they were both empty and had been cycling for 48hrs to insure a safe transfer. Not being allowed to finish my statement, I was then told, "no". They were not going to sell me the only Frontosa they had. No question was asked if the tanks were empty, nor if any other fish were going to be in the same tank etc. I was told that with over 20 years of experience that they were not going to sell the frontosa to me since they were very aggressive and the fish that my wife was purchasing which was a Moorii would end up fighting each other and or killing each other without knowing if it was going to be the only fish in a tank or allowing me to finish. Instead the lady cut me off mid conversation. The sad point to this review is the answers were not allowed to be presented fully. I will need 2 more tanks in less than 30 days. One of which will be a 100 gallon or larger, plus live plants, pumps, filters, lights, stands etc., all the fish to follow (possible saltwater tank). I am not asking for the employee to be fired by any means, just maybe some training to listen more to the customers. I help oversee 12 stores in my profession and I know if I ever heard a sales rep tell a customer that they would not sell them something without getting a full picture of the customer needs, I would have them re-trained and or part ways with that sales rep. I would not allow a reps bad day to deter in our companies means to sell a customer a product or service. Not used to someone refuse to sell me something I want to buy and feeling dismissed and a tad discriminated against. I will never step foot again in this business. I felt bad for the managers that came out to the parking lot as we were trying to pull away and leave, I know they were trying to find out what happened, but we never in this lifetime step foot in there again. My Father’s Day was ruined and I want to thank the managers for allowing this to happen. So back to square one with our goals and trying to find a store that can help us with our purchases. Way too pissed to continue! Find another store to go to and avoid the grief, the judgmental discrimination and go elsewhere.

I bought my baby ball python from them just today. I have prior experience with snakes and every last ball python I inspected was extremely healthy looking. no mites, no ticks, and you could tell the snakes have been well fed and dont look the sickly thin from being under feed that Ive seen at alot of pet stores in the past. They sexed my snake for me right on the spot and knowledgably answered all my questions. I got her for 20 dollars which is extremely cheap for a ball python but Ive been told that baby ball pythons are seasonal and will go up in price as the months progress and they eat up the stores stock of mice. I got a free mouse to feed her and a guarantee that if she refuses to eat within the next 2 weeks, then I can just bring her back and get a different snake. I really dont want to return her, shes one of the most tame snakes Ive handled. Every snake I handled at this store was extremely tame, though one of them was a tad head shy (it was a baby afterall). These by far are the tamest snakes Ive ever handled at a pet store. All of them being that tame has never happened to me before. Ive been looking in vain for 4 years for a tame snake to replace my last one and even have been bitten by a snake at a large pet chain store (in corpus christi) in the proccess of my search. Im never trusting a chain stores snakes ever again. You can tell the staff here really knows what they are doing with thier animals and are dedicated to providing the healthiest and well mannered animals possible. I highly recommend this store for its quality animals and knowledgable staff. On the down side, the prices of cages, tanks, toys, and equiptment are a tad high side. I am not sure but I think the food might be a tad higher as well (but has an extremely wide selection for fish considering all the froozen foods). The store is also a bit cramped for space. Id hate to try to navagate it in a power chair, I am sure Id break expensive things if I tried. All and all, this is a very worthwhile store to visit and pick out a new pet from. Oh and just to help out, I will mention some of the types of animals I saw for sell there. Corn snakes of all colors, king snakes, breaded dragons, camealions, ferrets, rabbits, sugar gliders, guinia pigs, rats, mice, gerbals, finches, budgies, geckos, turtles, taranchalas, frogs, crickets, all types of salt water and fresh water fish, live aqurium plants, fancy gold fish. (no feeder goldfish since they said the goldfish tend to carry more diseases that can get the fish eatting them sick) tadpoles, blue crayfish, star fish, and the biggest moray eel Ive ever seen! That things got to weight in at least 75 pounds! (dont know if its for sale, looks like its just on display)

THEY DISCRIMINATE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN. I called and asked if I could trade in his 4 large jack dempsey cichlids, 2 bumblebee african cichlids, 3 large goldfish, and 1 chinese algae eater for 10 neon fish or 10 guppy fish. They said yes, come on in. I told them that I wouldnt be able to come in that day because of my sons behaviors, and Id have to come in another day and they said that was ok. It took me almost 2 weeks to prep my son for the exchange, because he wanted to keep all the fish. Finally, the day came, and I took in the fish. I left the house with all of his fish, and came back with no neon fish because the fish store changed their mind. "You should have came in the day we agreed to swap the fish because thats when I had a need for cichlids. I dont have a need for cichlids anymore and the most Ill go is $20 store credit." My sons cichlids are worth $20 each because of their size. I pleaded again, saying Im not asking for expensive fish, the the neon fish or even the guppy fish because hes autistic and likes the way they light up. They are not very expensive, I just promised that Id come home with 10 of these fish. It was almost drilled into his brain for 2 weeks that wed be swapping these fish out for the 10 neon fish. I brought his old fish back, and now hes crying. Some of the fish have lost their color because they had been out of water for too long. Hes devastated. The fish store has no respect or concern for special needs children or their feelings. They only care about their business, and felt the need to take advantage of our son and the opportunity. They have no idea how much this is going to set him back during therapy, as this experience has traumatized him. From what I hear, this store owner has pulled this on many other people too. "You should have came in this day, because now Im only going to off you only half of what I originally told you." BAD BUSINESS! Please dont support a business like this. I dont even know how to begin explaining this to my son. If anyone knows anything about autism, its that they dont adapt well to change. It makes them physically sick. Its like someone died.
