My family and I have stayed at the Tiki a handful of times over the past 5 years and had nothing but positive experiences. Room 236 is by far my favorite! The view of the beach and gulf are stunning! You will have a perfect view of the sunrise over the gulf from the balcony. This room is basically beach front without paying the beach front price. The room is nicely decorated and has a very comfortable bed and pull out sofa bed. The bathroom looks recently remodeled with a tile shower perfect for rinsing off the sand and salt water. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to make meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Tiki itself is a very nice place to stay. The grounds are well landscaped and well kept. The pool is kept at a very comfortable temperature year round, and although it looks a bit dated it was very clean. The private beach access is a nice feature and there is a shower head for rinsing right inside the gate. The Tiki is located at a more quiet end of the island and there was not much traffic or commotion with the exception of a few events at Clayton’s next door. We had very pleasant interactions with all of the staff we encountered and everyone was very helpful. Be sure you know who you are renting from!!! We booked through the Tiki website and were able to use the towel service, laundry, and did not have any hidden fees or charges. We were in the lobby when someone came to complain about not getting fresh towels or maid service, but it was determined by the desk attendant that they had rented from a third party site or from the owner directly and those services were not part of their stay. Be sure to ask about those services ahead of time to avoid confusion. It seems like some of the other negative reviews may be from people that also rented from another source. My family and I will definitely be back, hopefully soon!

July 14th 2017. I made a reservation at the Tiki on the 14th, a woman by the name of Susan called me the next morning, July 15th, to confirm the reservation for 3 nights, wherein she charged my credit card at that time, going so far as to tell me the specifics about check-in times and etc. When I questioned her as to the exact number of our unit, she hesitated and told me that she had made a mistake, that they had NO rooms available and admitted she should not have charged my card. So in essence, it is my opinion that she stole my families vacation funds, and now she states that the charges have been refunded, which as of yet they have not. I have spoken to my financial institution and there has been no refund sent. I am furious! I called the office again and Susan stated she has done all she can and apparently does not feel the least bit obligated to make sure that those funds are sent back to me in a timely manner. I have never seen such complete incompetence or unprofessional business practice. My family has been vacationing at Padre Island for 20+ years and we have never encountered anything like this. Not only has it put stress on us emotionally but we are forced to cancel a vacation that we have looked forward to for months because the Tiki has all our vacation money and we have no place to stay. When searching for a room I was hesitant to stay at the Tiki at first because of the mixed reviews and what I had read about some of the rooms being so rundown, but now I can see that that is the least of their problems. With rude and incompetent management like this, the condition of the rooms should be the least of their concerns!!!

This was the 2nd stay for me at the Tiki. I went with a group and did not choose hotels. Last year my 1 bedroom condo smelled badly of urine and mold. I did not complain. Everything else was fine. Location is good but it was over priced based on other like hotels. I just got back from the 2nd visit. THIS PLACE HAS REALLY GONE DOWN HILL!!!!! It started with the lock of the door on our condo not working-rusted shut. I reported it to the staff but it was never fixed. Condo was dated and musty. Stayed there for 3 nights. I split the 2 bedroom condo with another person. We checked in together and gave them both of our credit cards. When I checked out I returned my key to the front office. After I left the female hotel front desk person called me and threatened to have me arrested, saying that I did not pay my bill. I tried to explain to her that it was split between me and someone else but she would not listen-kept talking over me and threatening to have me arrested. I hung up and called back and got a male front desk person. He was the guy who checked us in. He listened to me but did not know how to fix the problem. They also called the other guy in my condo and left a nasty voice message to call. The front office closes at 5 pm so we could not resolve the issue until the next day. When we called, the lady answered and said it had been resolved. Wouldnt you think that she would have called when they found THEIR mistake to say it had been settled? She owed me an apology for the way she treated me. I will not stay there again. The place is not worth the price and the front desk staff needs to be fired.

Worst vacation experience. Began with unexpected hidden first step leading in to the office. Fell on the stairs. Then if you want to experience STRESS, give them your conf # and they will tell you that you were supposed to be there a month earlier! Not!!! They will try and scam you with telling you that they are unable to refund your money and that the unit you had reserved is no longer available! What to do? Maybe if you stand your ground and continue to be firm, they will all of a sudden, be able to refund your money, and, all of a sudden, will have the same unit that you had reserved become available! Then the unit will not be cleaned for another hour. And then you will only be able to get one key. The pool opens late. Oh, almost forgot, they forget to mention a $45 cleaning fee which you are required to pay. How convenient for them to forget that. Will NEVER, ever stay there again. Never once saw a security guard at night. And the beach is very quiet, due the fact that all the chairs have been moved to the La Quinta next door. Make sure you bring your own chairs and tents. Oh yeah, no breakfast available either. You have to drive about a mile to get your AM coffee!

We sublet, which is apparently the way to go. We were charged more than double the nightly rate, but after reading the other reviews, seems to have been worth it. The unit we stayed in was kept up nicely. We were on the first floor, and our balcony faced out. Minimal noise from the upstairs neighbors. We arrived after 9pm, but had made advance arrangements for our parking tag to be left in our room. Wifi info was also included. We never checked in with the front desk, and never had issues with not having wrist bands on. My favorite part of the entire experience was location, location, location. We were right on the beach, which made it convenient for carrying our beach stuff back and forth. Additionally, we were close to town, but not right in the center of things. We did see security around at night, and like other people have said, the unit had a weird smell. Overall, we had fun, and I would choose to stay here again.
