Trying to buy tickets at the Rockaway, NJ AMC 16 was an incredibly frustrating experience tonight. We waited in line to use one of the automated ticket machines, upon trying to pay the machine froze. After waiting for the only cashier working to finish with customers I informed him the machine was broken. His response: "oh, yeah that one doesnt work, use another." after informing him that I had already swiped my card and didnt want to be charged twice, he told me to "just wait" and proceeded to check out other customers waiting in line, despite the fact that I had already been waiting for 5 minutes now. His blatant disregard for my needs or customer service was incredibly disrespectful. After asking two other employees not even working registers, a manager finally came over to reset the machine and get us into the theater. Upon purchasing candy I look back into the lobby only to see the exact same machine, frozen again with no help. No one thought to put a sign or turn it off. I had to tell the poor brand new ticket agent to take some initiative and make sure that no one else is inconvenienced by a machine they admit isnt working. The idiocy of these employees is unacceptable.

Once when seeing the movie i forgot my bag inside the hall.. after i realised i.e. in abt 10 - 15 mins & drove back to the hall the lady at the counter did not let me in the hall to check for my bag & said tht i can wait till the movie finishes tht is till 2.00 AM or come the next morning even after knowing tht the bad had all my credit cards, DL & the house keys. they had no usher who could check or even had a security personnel who could go inside so finally i had to buy a ticket to go inside to check for my bad as it was a 3d movie the ticket was even expensive but the girl at the counter atleast gave me a discount at the ticket & gave me a kids ticket.. i go inside the hall to check for my bag to realise tht thr are commercials running & the movie hasnt even started in a more than half empty hall.. i found my bag & after coming out had a big argument with the girl who later refunded the ticket i dont blame the girl at the counter she was only doing her job but AMC should defenitely do something abt its policies..the girl at the counter tried her best but was just stuck coz of her companies strange policies & yes thr is always lots of trash ard the seats,,

This place is run by morons. Anyone that goes to the movies regularly knows that the movie typically starts 15-20 minutes late because of previews. Well, I intentionally arrive about 15 minutes later than the showtime for this very reason. On two separate occasions, I was literally locked out of the building! The second time I spoke to the manager, and she said the registers shut down 15 minutes after the last movie and there was absolutely nothing she could do to help me. Here I am, willing to pay for a movie and I cant do it! Why would they shut down registers before the movie even starts? Am I forced to sit through the stupid previews? I wasted time and gas money driving to this place, and now I no longer trust them. The cashiers are slow. The lines are long. And the self service ticket machines usually dont even work. One time I went there for a Mayweather (boxing) pay per view under the assumption that it was 11 or 12 dollars. After purchasing the ticket with my credit card, I later saw on the receipt that I was charged 25 dollars without being told in advance. Morons all around. Sorry Rockaway. From now on Im going elsewhere.

Awful theatre. Dirty and crowded, ridiculously high prices, very rude, snippy employees that do everything they can to take more of your money. Disgusting food, bad projection and lack of 3-D movies. I (age 18) went with my best friend (19) and her little brother (16) as well as my own little brother (turns 15 next month) to see Bruno, an R-rated film (which you have to be 17 to see). Despite my friend and I being old enough to see it, they would not let our brothers in, because they IDd us at the entrance to the main hall and apparently you have to be 21 to take under-17s to a 17+ movie, which is incredibly stupid and something I have never heard of before. We exchanged our brothers Bruno tickets for tickets to I Love Beth Cooper, rated PG-13, and then tried to sneak them into Bruno, but they IDd us yet again at the entrance to the film itself. In fact, in the past I have gone there with my brother to see R-rated films with no trouble, I dont know what their problem is now. Save yourself the pain, time, and money, and go see a movie at Kinnelon, Butler, West Milford, Succasunna, Newton, or anywhere else, really. Do yourself a favor...

Im so surprised to hear some of the very negative things people have said about this theater. I live locally to the theater (its the closest one to my house) and I go there about 1-2 times per month. I would say this theater is average to above-average in terms of movie theaters in this country. Its got stadium seating, isnt updated extremely recently, but does have IMAX and wouldnt be considered out-of-date. They also have the newer coke machines with all the flavors, rather than the standard fountain sodas with only a handful of the most popular options. It could definitely be cleaner, but Ive seen way worse. My main issue when coming here is that they sometimes close & lock the front doors at 11pm, even when theres a 10:50pm showtime. Also, they have shut down the snack and drink stands early so that I couldnt even get snacks or drinks when seeing a later showtime (10:30, 10:45, etc), so forget those free refills too! Prices are definitely pretty high, at around $13-20/adult...but unless someone has a better option, it wont stop me from going and I wouldnt say any of the other theaters in the area are any better.

This review is for the IMAX screen in this theater. It is actually a much smaller screen than the regular screen in this theater. This is one of what they call the Liemax @ IMAX digital. They basically retrofitted a regular screen with a smaller IMAX screen. The sound is not the characteristic IMAX sound and I think the AMC Prime, ETX in other theaters has better sound than this IMAX. I found the image quality much blurrier than regular 4K screen, since this is because the projection is done with two 2K projectors. Sure this would change when IMAX get their laser projection. IMHO please dont waster your hard earned money for the IMAX screen, as the $18.29 ticket does not justify the experience.

The last time I went was my second time and it was to see the live action "Beauty and The Beast" in IMAX 3D. We bought our tickets online and were able to go straight to the ticket taker. We were not in line long to get into the theater, and we were able to get nice center seats. The staff was friendly enough, but you could tell they were stern too, which I feel is to be expected at a movie theater, especially when dealing with a young person. The prices are moderate and decent, considering it is a movie theater. Didnt have snacks this time, so I cant speak on that. Overall good experience.
