I gave the Columns one star and I regret I couldnt rate it lower. My wife, mother-in-law and I dined (actually dined is too eloquent a term to use here) there while on vacation last week. To say the food was abysmal does not convey this gastronomic disaster. My manhattan clam chouder soup had the gelatinous consistency of wall paper paste and an odd raspberry color quite unlike any I have had. The taste was somewhat clammy but my aversion to eating something with a texture like toothpaste and no discernible clam chunks overcame my appetite. My wifes surf and turf consisted of two anemic lobster claws, sausage?? (wheres the steak?) and underdone midget potatoes. But the topper was her mothers tuna! The tuna was an unhealthy gray and tastless mush that any grunt would discard in favor of C rations; she had one bite, I had a nibble and we called the manager over. The less than friendly manager was unwilling to make an adjustment but did comp us our drinks! Oh joy. Dinner drinks? My Jim Beam wasnt and weak to boot and Moms cosmo from a mix! If you want to eat at a good restuarant there are plenty in the area but one of them isnt the Columns!!!

It was cool for a summer day so the beach crowd was smaller than normal. That made for our chance to finally try The Columns. We started off with chips and salsa. The salsa was freshly made and tasty. My wife had the lobster mac and cheese and I had the fish tacos. We were both pleased. The fish tacos were made with sole (they use a fish of the day) on my visit. Each taco was stuffed so by the time I ate the last of my 3 tacos I was satisfied. I finished off my meal with a black and white mouse cake which was excellent. Since the day was cool and breezy our seating out on the porch along Ocean Avenue was almost the quintessential beach restaurant experience. Two things that kept me from giving The Columns five stars: 1. we arent much for live bands so the music coming from the bar was an annoyance over which we had to talk and 2. The service was friendly but a little slow. Overall a very good experience and wed definitely go back.

Dont order the steak!!! My son had the swordfish and my husband had the penne with vodka sauce and both loved their meals. I had the misfortune of ordering a steak, medium rare, and a frozen rose wine drink on special for the weekend. Both were disasters- when I found the meat to be overcooked and bland, I didnt want to complain so I asked for A1 to help add flavor to the overcooked meat. By the time the waitress finally told me there was no sauce to be found, my husband and son had both finished their meals. No worries, I had my frozen rose to sip...oh wait, did I accidentally order a cut of ice with frozen strawberries...no- lucky me- this is just what the "drink special" tasted like :-) The view cant be beat though!

For Fathers Day, we had a GREAT lunch here. The calamari is superb, and the crab cakes sandwiches were delightful. Not to be missed were the fresh chips and salsa -- which were fantastic. We had an incredible view of the beach from the ocean-facing side of the restaurant, and the restaurants side face did a great job of cutting a 15 knot wind so that we didnt even feel it on the porch. This is a GREAT location for a weekend lunch during early summer. Will be back! (Some of the photos below were taken from my table looking out across the street to the boardwalk and beach, to give you an idea of the views).

Only problem is that the huge bar takes up 70% of the main room. With a good band like Bandiera, half the crowd is standing on the dance floor, watching the band like drunken zombies. Dancing is at your own risk. Never been jostled so much, and the crowd is the rudest Ive ever seen. Bouncers are absent. The club is great, and a jersey shore institution, its the layout of the main room that is a deal killer. There are other acts in the smaller room, which is a pleasant enviornment. Great place in the off season, try to pick quiet night in the summer.

Kids are not welcome! Very disappointed! I was told by three hostesses that " Wheels are not allowed!" Then I took the top of the stroller with my one year old to be seated without the wheels and hostess took us to the smallest table hidden in the corner. I was not able to fit there. There were lots of other tables but girls did not want to help us. We left.

Slider bar is a huge draw but the line can take over an hour which is brutal when youre hungry and tired from the beach. At night theres a live band and a pretty good crowd. Bar service is horrifically slow but thats sort of par for the shore in the summer. Theres also a $5-$7 cover weekend nights which is silly and annoying but tolerable.

Its a good bar, its near the beach, but its located in a not fun town full of older people. The staff is nice but always in a rush. Its great place to relax and look at the water and have a few drinks. Specials on the raw bar starting around 4. Its closed in the off season. Overall not bad to hang out and relax during the summer.

Pros: Good food and nice spot. Good seafood and fun atmosphere. Cons: $6 cover charge to walk in. The mini burgers were not cooked well, a lot of red left on it. Overall, the food was good. Ask for dinning to avoid paying a cover charge. Nice place to go for a few drinks and seafood.

A pleasent restaurant it is. With dining facing the ocean and a wide menu selection, the Columns is sure to please anyone. My only complaint is the fact that the food can take a while (on busy nights, up to 40 minutes!)

Horrible! You have to pay nine dollars for your entry.. it takes a really long time to get parking! The sand was inclined to a drop in the water.. Overall bad visit.. the only thing that was okay was the water
