AMC Southdale 16 is a theater located in Edina, Minnesota. It offers a range of movie experiences but seems to have room for improvement in various aspects, from customer service to technical setup. The theater has recently undergone some changes, including new seating, which have received mixed reviews. It's a place that offers more than just movies, with arcade machines and snacks available, although these additional features have their own sets of challenges. Overall, the theater provides a comprehensive entertainment experience but has several areas where it could improve to enhance customer satisfaction.

Weve been going to this theater for years and Ive never been unhappy with the location. (caveat: I dont go during really busy times and I dont buy overpriced food.) They have self-serve ticket purchase screens that are easy to use and easy to read for those of us that need reading glasses. I like that the staff doesnt jump into the theater as soon as the credits start to roll to clean. In regards to a few other reviews here. Ive never experienced a rude staff person. The arcade located *near* the theater is in the mall and not part of the theater. It makes as much sense to demand that theater staff resolve ones issues with the Cheesecake Factory as demand they resolve issues with the arcade. There are new seats. They are wider than the old ones and more padded. I thought they were leather but perhaps theyre plastic. Either way, its wise to keep in mind that (p)leather will not harbor head-lice as easily as fabric. The seats have electric controls that adjust the back (albeit slightly) and raise a foot rest, something I dont think many of the reviewers realized. I dont think the seats are 100% comfortable but Ive been in much worse theater seats and these are roomy enough that its easy to readjust ones position. Something I desperately need to do. (There are some theater seats I simply cannot sit in for any length of time). Finally, in general, fellow theater goers can be pains for talking and checking their phones. All movies are (imo too) loud. All first run tickets are expensive. And all snacks at first run theaters are overpriced. It seems unfair to grade one theater on something that is essentially an industry standard.

I visit this theater on average three times per year. I really want to like the theater because it is near where my mother lives. Its hard though. My wife daughter and mother and I came to a matinee showing today. While we were waiting to see our movie my wife and daughter went into The arcade to kill a few minutes. We put four coins in the machine and it did not operate nor return the money. My wife went to the young lady at the stand taking tickets and she said "Im sorry I cant help you we dont have anything to do with the arcade machines." My wife asked to speak to somebody else in charge and an assistant came over, listened to our story, and then literally walked away. Did nothing to address the problem. Simply walked away. My wife then went back to the ticket taker and ask if theres anyone else and the ticket taker said "we really dont have anything to do with those machines." Never have I observed such indifference to the customer. Why have games in your building that you operate but not manage. Why are you willing to take the guests money but not help them when theres a problem. Im astonished. As time goes by it becomes less and less necessary to go to a theater for a movie experience. We live in a time now where you can get that experience in your home. I could not be more disappointed in AMC Southdale 16.

Without a doubt the worst movie theater I have ever seen a movie in. To begin lets go over the technical issues with the theater. Every one of their theaters I have been in is equipted with a 3d projector. However, the projectionist never turns off the second projector when a film is playing in 2d. This may sound good (and actaully can be in the case of IMAX digital), but with these projectors is causes the movie to look muddy and dark. Next I have never seen such halilously misaligned projectors. Projectors off by almost a foot in several theaters and this seems to be a reoccuring problem. However the bigest issue with this theater is their clientele, the have no respect for the film or other members in the audince. Every single film I have seen here has been filled with audince members who are contantly talking or on their phones during the whole film. The AMC staff is either unwilling or unable to do anything about it. To make matters even worse AMC now plays a #shareAMC bumper that encorages audince members to pull out their phone and take selfies. Who in their right mind would think that is a good idea?

They recently remodeled the seating in theater 13 & a few others. The new seating sucks. The chairs are hard plastic & they dont recline back They just move back instead of giving your back any comfort. My back really ached after sitting in these seats to watch wonder woman. There awful & not comfortable at all. I tried so many different ways to sit I these things & Just nothing worked without me being in some sort of discomfort. Id rather be sitting in there older grey seats, they were way more comfortable & not hard plastic. And whats with the coupled seating with these new seats? I share a cup holder or a love seat with some stranger? How awkward. What a terrible investment they made to these seats please rip these out & get your old ones back. My back & spine will definitely appreciate it.

I entered the mall doors with my children - Freddy, age 8, and Susan, age 6 - holding high expectations. The kids were so excited for number of reasons, one of them caused by the reviews of this mall. I, as a devoted mother, dig deep in the review pool because I know my children deserve the best experience possible. Therefore, when I heard AMC Southdale 16 featured rodents of all types, including rats and mice, I knew my children were in for a treat. They were beyond excited for a hands on experience, featuring the vermin in a mock-petting zoo setting while feasting their eyes on a feature film. To our despair, there were NO RODENTS to be found! Not even one measly creature. You can bet that my family will never return to this disgraceful temple of entertainment.

I used to love this theater. But now, +1 to Matts comment. The change to concessions is terrible. As in, a complete cluster. Whoever made that decision for AMC obviously never went through the experience to try it out. First world problems here, but try holding a full bag of popcorn, walking to the soda machine to fill the cup, setting everything down (there is barely enough room) to put on the lid and grab a straw. Now pick up your bag of popcorn and soda across the hall to the small kiosk, set everything down *again* (you guessed it...no room) to put some butter and salt on your popcorn and grab some napkins. Then pick everything up AGAIN to go see your movie. If youre bringing your kids, plan to avoid concessions COMPLETELY. Youll thank me. :)

Choose your seats beforehand? Are you serious? Having people choose their seats online beforehand is ridiculous unless youre going to assign seat numbers to people who dont choose their seats before hand. And people that do get to choose their seats before hand need to be charged more, so that they can have an employee come and enforce the seating situation so that people who just come and buy their tickets in the window show up early pick their seats, dont get ousted by entitled snobs who think theyre better. Do better Southdale- its a movie theater, not a music show where people pay more money for VIP seating. Absolutely ridiculous! I will never, ever come here again.
