Decent Course - Horrible Managemnt Tour 18 is a fun course to play; however, it became a horrible experience when the starter and management thought that it was more important to lower mileage on their 4 month old carts instead of allowing their patrons to enjoy a nice day at the golf course. I went to the course by myself and was grouped with three other guys by the starter today. We enjoyed a good time on the front nine with no problems. Just a good day at the course. At the turn, the starter insisted that our foursome combine from three carts to two carts. After explaining to the starter, that I was on call for work and may have to leave at any moment, I told him it would be best if we remained in three carts. It was a slow day at the course. Plenty of carts in front of the clubhouse. After proceeding to the tenth hole, the starter followed us to the middle of the fairway after our 2nd shots (par 5 hole). He insisted that we had to combine carts. I told him that I payed my green fee, and if I was called out to work that I didnt want the other guys to have to drive me in to the club house and disturb theie game. He had already made of his mind and to me I had no choice, we had to combine. I ask him if he was really serious and he said I had to combine. I asked who his boss was and I was told that I could talk a manager in the clubhouse. I had to pick up my ball, interrupt my game, drive to the clubhouse, leave the three pleasant guys that I had already played nine holes of golf with, and go argue with the assistant manager about using a golf cart that I had payed for and was given a key to by his starter. When I found the assistant manager in the clubhouse, he said that he was aware and invovled in the conversation with me on the course vai two way radio. Once again in a somewhat restrained manner, I tried to understand and discussed with this assistant manager why I was being forced to give up the golf cart that I had already played nine holes on with plenty of carts in front of the club house and the fact that I could have to leave at any moment if called in to work. He began to explain how his 4 month old carts were on a maintenance program and they needed to control the mileage on their carts. The last thing that I cared about at this moment was his maintenance program. I had driven from South Houston to North Houston to play Tour 18 for the first time. After he tried to explain his maintenance program more to me, I asked him if I would be able to finish my round of golf now that I had been forced to leave the course by his starter. He told me yes. So now I had to play by myself, restart the tenth hole, delayed 20 minutes, and stuck behind a 4-some. Should I mention that I was steaming at this point. After the 4-some didnt let me play through on two holes, I finally decided to skip hole 12 and come back to it since it was close to 18 tee box. I passed them very politely said hello to them and sure enough I caught up to my group. I played out the rest of the round up to hole 18 where I had to leave my foursome again to go back to hole 12 to play it since I had skipped it earlier. No problem hardly noobody on the course. Then drove back to hole 18 to finish my round. Just to mention it, Since the assistant manager insisted on making me drive to the clubhouse, then because I had to skip hole 12 and had to come back to it before playing hole 18, I actually put two extra holes of mileage on his 4 month old cart. I think the cart should be close to kicking it now. Tour 18 let me apologize for driving out across Houston (45 minutes) to your course and driving your golf cart on your golf course. If there would be a next time, maybe I would bring my own golf cart so that your carts can sit on your course with zero mileage. Learn something from this and put your patrons before your cart maintenance program.

Very interesting golf course, not the greatest service. I played this course on Sunday 01/15. I played on my own and called three days ahead of time to reserve a tee time. I was informed that I would be paired with a two-ball. When I arrived at the course they had no record of my reservation however getting out was not a problem as there vere very few players on the course due to the Houston football game. I informed the starter that I was a single and he told me that I was welcome to play on my own or he could assign me to an existing group as I preferred. I was informed that after the group teeing off there would be no-one else for 45 min so I elected to warm up on the range. The range involved playing off mat which were in good condition and the balls were free. As I was warming up two three balls headed for the first tee and I ended up being behind them. Not a huge deal but if I had known this I would probably have teed off earlier. The course itself is a very interesting concept and as a result was very interesting and challenging to play. Whilst the holes are modelled off other tour holes the quality is not as good although I am cant say how much of this is due to the lack of rain in Houston this year. Anyway, the end result is that there are a lot of brown patches on the fairway and the greens are not anywhere near the contours or speed of the holes they are modelled off. All this is a great course with and each hole is interesting and causes you to think a lot about what shot to play. I found the service to be well intentioned and friendly even if lacking a little in terms of being switched on. I would definitely recommend this course. I played Blackhorse the previous day and found Tour18 to be a much more interesting golf course.

While these holes are not exact replicas (possibly for legal reasons), they are incredibly close and certainly the closest I will come to playing these holes. What also stood out for me was, though this is a collection of holes from various courses, the course as a whole still plays well and flows as one set of 18 holes. This is no easy feat as overall playability is a vital part of course design. Also, while all of these holes are otherwise major PGA championship holes, they all were at the right level of interest, playability, and challenge. This is perhaps due to the fact that the weather is a lot calmer than the original locations, but the course is certainly very interesting for the weekend golfer. The only knock, as others have also noted, is that the staff can be a little over-bearing, and customer service is not their #1 priority. What is priority for them is getting in as many groups as possible and that meant constant nagging to pick up pace even though we were right at or slightly ahead of the stated pace. We also encountered grounds-staff mowing and watering greens even as if we were hitting on to that green! Why would you tend the course on a weekend morning? Still, none of this takes away from what is a very fun course to play.
