Today was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday. I attended NJPAC to critique and observe the Dance Theater of Harlem to perform a creative and uplifting dance piece. The show began with the narrator of the show Keith Saunders talking about the name of the dance called vessels. Based on the reason we went was to honor Dr.King so the theme would be to honor Dr.King. If we had to give a score out of five I would say four out of five because during the performance the dances was not together as a group and in the dance the one of the dancers fell twice and I was extremely shocked because at NJPAC they practice a lot to make perfect so this was the first NJPAC performance I saw someone fall I was surprised, but accidents do happen at times, but other than that the choreograph was amazing. I thought the costumes were very settle and lovely because the ladies wore a nice silver top with a white skirt on the bottom while the men wore grey top and grey tights. In the beginning, it started with nice classical ballet music and when it got to the end it was very uplifting and fun music that makes you want to get up dance that was my favorite part especially when the male solo came out to do the cha-cha. The lighting was very colorful but at first the base lighting was the sunset and there was a point when it became all different colors, it was amazing; which made the dancers light up the show more. My opinion the dancers were very expressive and energetic. This performance did not relate to my everyday life in any way. This performance did teach me a life lesson to stay with the group at all times and when I make a mistake/fall, quickly get back and don’t make it seems as if you made a mistake, because the audience sees. Last of all, one important thing the performers said that inspired me was that you can start dancing at any age but that really didn’t inspire me it’s just something that’s good to know. So, I personally would give the performance a 4 star but really desired a 5 star with good choreograph, but I still enjoyed the show.

On Sunday, April 27th I attended a performance by Julio Iglesias. The following observations for your review is noted. 1. The comedian that preceded Julio Iglesias was in poor taste. I felt sorry for the performer as he was not prepared, his attempt at humor was not funny. I think the time could have better spent with either a instrumentalist such as violinist, or other. 2. The row that I was not in did not have an egress on one side. This can cause serious problems in case of an emergency for evacuation. 3. Seating during the performance should only be in the interlude and at the discretion of the NJPAC. There were people running up and down the aisles during the performance and they were not discrete. 4. No drinks other than water should be allowed in the theater. The individual seated next to me had liquor on his breath. 5. Mr. Iglesias is a class act and should be accorded all dignity unlike the audience with outburst and stamping of feet. Further, I believe I could have had a better time.

Staff us so nice and courteous. They put you in a nice, warm, cozy mood to share the respect and care for your surroundings a bit more. Acoustics are good if you have a good sound/audio guy (or girl :-D ). Lighting combos are terrific. I always enjoy watching the stage lighting. Crowd can be a bit rough at times as far as being courteous to others, not yelling/ screaming in other patrons ears, or riff raff walking around. Security and house staff is always present which makes you feel secure that things wont get too out of hand. Parking is easy but will cost you about $20-$25 in a garage. Havent had any trouble leaving with merging traffic. Police usually direct traffic coming out. If its a late show (say 10:30-11pm), not many late night places to eat afterwards during the weekday unless you go to a diner. The building in the inside is gorgeous! Its truly a spectacular sight to look around when you can. Even all the way up to the ceiling. Overall, I look forward to going to see a concert at NJPAC again.

New Jersey PAC or NJPAC as it is known locally is located in the heart of downtown Newark, NJ and is one exquisite venue for performers and customers alike. Having attended a number of events each and every year for years, I find the location to be located in an easily accessible location. If you are local there are many ways to get to NJPAC using public transport and if from out of town, it is right across the street from the Robert Treat hotel.Inside the seating, then environment and the staff are very helpful . What I also like is NJPAC host a number concerts outdoors from some very well known acts and also local groups. If you looking for a place to relax and enjoy and evening, highly recommend you so by and enjoy the NJPAC location.

Horrible seating! Horrible view of stage! No TV monitors! I bought tickets for Tier 3, Section H to see Kevin James stand-up show. The Alcohol is ridiculously high priced. When I was escorted to my seats, the staff said "If the view is a problem, let us know, so we can try to accommodate better seats." Well, I made them aware and the response was that they are at maximum capacity. We could only see half of the stage area. There arent even TV monitors on the wall to offer you an alternate view. The chairs were uncomfortable. Staff was polite. They need to do a complete renovation of the upper tiers in order for customers to actually be able to see the shows. What a waste of $150!!

NJPAC hosted a talk by Neil Degrasse Tyson who talked about physics in movies. The hall definitely feels world class with great architecture and very good acoustics. It was very easy to hear and see everything through the talk. Even when taking questions from the audience, it was fairly easy to hear questions from the upper level. Parking was convenient but quite pricey. It would be nice to have a few more food options closer without having to walk all the way past the Prudential Center.

The best theater experience that I have ever had. I brought my mom there to see Riverdance. I got a phone call the day before to see if they could do anything for me, they arranged for my parking since we had a wheelchair right in front. They even looked for us while we were at the cafe for dinner to see if we needed help. I couldnt believe it, what place does this? I will always remember the thoughtfulness of NJPAC. Love it there!!!

Horrid staff that cannot handle general admittance. Staff on one side of the theater opened the gates minutes before the other half resulting in one side completely filling the second floor before the other side even entered. This resulted in people waiting for 45 minutes being thrown into the line for the fourth floor regardless of disability. Witnessed the staff screaming at an disabled guest who couldnt go any further.

This is a gem in Newark. Seats are comfortable. Acoustics are great. The hallways, walkways and entrances look dazzling. The theatre itself has a great ambiance. We had Tier 2 seats, and they were great for their price. Staff is very friendly. Concessions are very expensive. There is Nicos restaurant in the building for a good sit down dinner before the show. However, -1 star for limited and expensive concessions.
