Im from Maine, but Im in New Jersey for the summer. My friend brought me here to watch his friends band play. I was all excited because Ive heard a lot about how iconic this place is and it was my first time on the Shore... then we got there. The bouncer stopped me and looked at my ID for a good 5 minutes. Since its an out of state ID Im used to that at this point, but when he started black lighting it for the second and third time I got nervous. At this point he BROKE IT IN HALF and told me it was fake. Id like to take this opportunity to say it is actually a REAL ID from Maine that Ive had since I was 16. Im 21 now. I asked if he could have the police come verify that it was a legitimate ID since he was not inclined to believe me. He refused in a rude fashion, calling me a liar and telling me "real IDs dont bend in half." I asked to see the manager. The manager refused, also quite rudely. My friend ended up calling the police and when they finally showed up half an hour later they verified that it was a real ID also... As the cop was telling the bouncer this he STILL didnt want to believe it. Finally he let me in without even a real apology. Not worth the awful service and bouncers on a power trip. Glad I got to see my friends band though, I guess.

Terrible vibe in this place nowadays. Security is super uptight and hostile now; one of my friends who is very outgoing and vibrant was labeled as "too drunk" because she was speaking loudly in line. Security manhandled her then blacklisted her from the event. Inside there was security everywhere; even when I went to pee there as a man standing over my shoulder. I saw some kids jumping in the crowd and when one of them tripped a little bit, there was a security guy aggressively dragging him out in seconds. I understand why its so tight though. A show I saw about a year ago was infested with overly sweaty, drunk, and violent headbangers whose idea of having fun is swinging their arms around with no regard for the people around them. However, the show I described above was the complete opposite of that; it had a very chill vibe. All in all, from the terrible crowds to the hostile security to the mediocre drinks, this is one of my least favorite music venues now, which is sad because it used to be a classic

Ive been to the Stone Pony a few times, and really like it as a venue. This past experience really blew me away though. We went to see Umphreys McGee two weeks ago, and I sprained my ankle a month before that. My ankle was still healing, so I had a supportive ankle brace on. My husband and I were waiting for our friend by the lifted platform on the side of the stage and one of the security guards came over and offered for us to come sit on the platform; I was amazed and appreciated the kind offer and it made the concert so much more enjoyable. While we were on the platform, they brought up a kid who clearly partied too hard. Instead of yelling at the kid, they fed him snacks and water and consistently checked in on him. I am incredibly impressed with the staff at the venue, they really went above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience for all. I cant say enough about how awesome they were!

They get good acts and its a nice venue IF you can stand up for hours since there are no seats. If I were a lot younger I would love it. I saw Willie Nelson there this summer and the average age of the audience had to be 60 years old. And Im older than that. They have a section for handicap seating and if you are in a wheelchair you sit right by the stage. But they demand some kind of handicap ID to get into the area where chairs are. Being old doesnt qualify. And you cant bring a chair, and sitting on a blanket in the middle of the crowd would not work either. They have lots of food and drink vendors though, and convenient portable potties right there. So again if I were 20 years younger, I would love it.

we attended the Violent Femmes show and couldnt have been more shocked at the total aggro behavior of the "security" , which is really a shame. These college age boys are ruining the show by standing in front of customers, standing completely still like a huge mountain, looking for people having fun, and then they swoop in and harass. They were roving through the crowd specifically looking for patrons to bully. It was depressing and shocking to see such over blown egos on parade during I show that was filled by people mostly 40+. I don;t need a boy half my age to police my fun. I saw an entire family lead out because the 20 yr old daughter had one sip of a juice mixed drink from her mothers cup. Ridiculous!

Stephen Leighton is 100% right. Their security staff are a bunch of goons on a power trip. I was also at that Rise Against show. Three guards came out of nowhere when I was 2-stepping in an open pit. I did not hit anyone. They grabbed me by the throat and threw me to the ground. I had my hands up the whole time and wasnt resisting, and they still dragged me out screaming obscenities in my face. They even threatened my brother who just asked them politely to take it easy. To add insult to injury one of the goons hit me in the face with my own shoe while I was still on the ground. Its nice to know that I wasnt the only one who thinks the security staff was way out of line

After my latest trip on May 6, 2017 to the Stone Pony to see The Damned I solidified my knowledge of this historic venue. To date this is the second time Ive visited, first was in 2016 for Punk Rock Bowling and I was impressed with the outside stage and lot for larger events. Inside is full of rock memorabilia and 3 bars one of which allows seating. The audio was fantastic, and the view was great from anywhere in the venue. I will definitely return. Oh, the knowledge I mentioned is Southside Johnny and Steven Van Zandt, both of who had their own bands and played, and still play, integral parts with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Heres what you should know about The Stone Pony Summer Stage experience. First of all, the tickets say 5:30. The act doesnt go on until around 7:30. You cant leave once you enter so youll be standing around for two hours in the heat. Bands played inside. Youre stuck there waiting, drinking beer and eating "concert food." If this is fun for you, have at it! The concert aspect was excellent. You can get up close to the stage fairly easily. The show we saw ran from about 7:30 - 9:30. Next time well come in at 7:00, grab a beer and see the show without all of the waiting around like fish in a barrel.

went to asbury park with my wife today for the 1st time since 1983. wanted to support the shore. stopped at the stone pony and asked about shirts. we were allowed inside to buy shirts and after our purchase which exceeded 50.00 we asked to use the rest room. the woman that sold us the shirts said in a VERY FIRM tone...NO. i thought it was a little out of line considering....we WERE going to go to the concert (which would have been an additional 70+ dollars) but decided not to after that experience. there was a nice woman worker there did offer to take a pic of us in the bar which she did for us.
