My wife and I visited last weekend. I want to give this place the betefit of the doubt (being from a large city and being used to quality food). However, I rate this restaurant a 1 star at best. The star is by no means a reflection of the kind and friendly service we received from our waitress and the homstyle appearance of the restaurants interior, but by all means a reflection of the quality of food. The vegetables were all obviously from a can (besides their mashed potatoes), my wifes fried chicken was decent, my weiner snitzel was below average, and the rolls served with our dishes seemed to be the best thing about the meal. If this place had more reasonable prices, Id stay stopn in for a quick bite but dont get your hopes up too high. However, after spending $32 on lunch (thats without appetizer, dessert, or tip), Id say stay from away this restaurant.

This is a review of the Ox Yolk Inn in Amana and not off of I-80. The food here was passing. It wasnt very different from food I couldve made at home from boxes and mixes. In other words it was not very good German food. They might simply be "Americanizing" their food, but it leaves it sub-par. That isnt to say that the food is bad, but just not as good as it should be. Given the food quality though, the prices are way too high. The only food that was really good, was the cottage cheese and the sauerkraut. If youre in town for some other event, it is probably worth a visit; if youre not expecting authentic that is. It would not be worth the trip out just for their food however.

Ordered 2 meals with my wife family style. We did not have seconds on anything including our waters. We did not eat everything and asked for to go containers. The waitress told us that we were only allow 2 small containers. We had more food than would fit in these containers we asked for a third, she said it was policy that we could only get two. I asked to speak with the manager and she wanted to argue with us. She made us buy a third container for $.50. Remember we bought the food, didnt have seconds on anything. and then she was very rude. I am posting this post everywhere, I hope it stops people from eating here. There are other good places to eat in this town.

Ate at Ox Yoke Inn two weeks ago and Ronnenberg Restaurant yesterday. They are pretty similar and both are excellent but Ronnenberg was both the better of the two and had a lower price. There were more and better sides at Ronnenberg. The entree was superior at both places. The cherry strudel was extremely good at Ox Yoke Inn. I very much enjoyed the roast beef. The person I was with had fried ham at both and said both were equally wonderful, though the portion was larger and the price a little lower at Ronnenberg. Really, both restaurants are quite good.

Been coming here for years, in fact its a favorite when family comes from California but am beginning to become disappointed with some of the food offerings. No more fried potatoes only mashed and the option to mix entrees is no longer available. Staff was less than impressive. Our group of 8 had to ask for refills of beverages and sides several times. Server stated it was late in the day, which gave me the impression that we were an inconvenience. The entire family mentioned trying another Amana restaurant for our next family outing.

The food was average at best, but overpriced for what we got. The service was terrible. It took a very long time to get our relatively simple order. When we asked to substitute potato chips (which are on the menu) for the apple sauce that comes with our kids meals, they told us they couldnt do that. They also charged $2.50 for each kids drink in addition to their meal and never once offered a refill. There are better places to dine in Amana. I dont recommend this one.

We were in Amana this past weekend october 3 2011 and ate at the one in Amana and not off of I 89 and found the food to be very good and prices for the most part fair. The service left a lot to be desired. The waitress was curt to almost being rude never checking if we needed anything. I come from MO and most all of our restaurants serve refillable soft drinks unlimited no extra here only 1 refill and size pretty small. Food portions were fine Hungry in MO.

The sides were bland, and the service was deffenately disappointing. The waitress forgot about our able. We had missing parts of the family sides they never even brought out bread. By the end they finally checked on us to get the bill. We pointed out the missing food but were already done eating by then. They did let us take The sides to go since we never even got them served. Will not go back : /

The rating is not so much a reflection of the food (which was good and we didnt leave much on the plate), but a reflection of it as German food. Ive been to Germany a couple of times and have had some great German food here in the states thats been very much like the real thing. Ox Yoke was not it. Go for a decent meal, but dont expect to be wowed great German food if you know what it is.

I remember coming here when I around 7 years old and one score plus two years later, it remains delicious! Weve tried all the places around town and this has consistently been the best one. The cottage cheese, corn and potatoes are brilliant and weve never had a dish here wed didnt love. Great for groups and the portions are hearty enough that youll be able to share and have leftovers!

The Ox Yoke is always on our list when we drive through Amana. It is a wonderful experience. The family style breakfast is amazing, and I was glad that each component was refillable. My party of 4 was able to get just the right amount for us. The food was delicious, and our server was helpful and able to answer my questions about vegetarian options. Im glad we visited again.

The Ox Yoke Inn was a comfortable eviornment and appeared to be very clean. The prices were reasonable aswell as portion size. Unfortunately staff was curt, appeared dissatisfied with working there, and were heard loudly gossiping and complaining nearby. The food was average, not terrible but not astounding by any regard. Overall the Ox Yoke Inn was average.

Food tasted like it was warmed up in a steamer instead of actually cooked the right way. Prices are way too high for food that is becoming less german each time I visit. Only reason I go anymore is because my family. I know it will shut down soon because of the high prices and terrible waitresses and the owner seems like he doesnt put any money into the place.

The food was great, they are fast too. It took within ten minutes. I got the pork tenderloin sandwich. It was freshly cooked and wasnt frozen. We went around 5 pm and wasnt very busy at all! Its family friendly and you CAN do reservations. At the end, they have a dessert platter, and you get to choose from a wide variety of cakes and pies. I recommend!
