This movie theater took my breathe away with its beauty. I didnt think it was gonna look dat beautiful from da outside. It really took me by surprise. I went there 2day bcuz it was da only theater dat was playing da movie i wanted 2 see, da secret world of arriety, which was a good movie by da way. I love when u walk in theres this antique ticket booth where u purchase ur tickets. Then ur eyes start 2 wonder n when u look up, u cant help but 2 say "woooow". U see a dome with art frescos painted on it with a beautiful chandelier. It looks like an art deco, boroque, antique french royalty look. They have a small consetion stand with da basics. Popcorn, candy, n refreshments. N just when u think u cant be impressed more than what u saw in da entry, i was stuned when i saw da auditorium with da movie screen n all those seats. It was gorgeous. Theres these beautiful chandelier lamps on da side walls, a stary nite sky ceiling, n cool light affects through out n around da movie screen. Im definately going back n recommending this place 2 my family n friends. It looks like an elegant opera house. Im almost sorry i didnt have 2 pee n didnt check out da bathroom but ill do dat on my next visit lol. Da 2 young guys dat were running da place seemed nice n were polite when i complemented da place n i asked if da theater was family owned n they said yes. This is my new favorite movie theater. Hope u enjoy n appreciate da decor n great ticket price as much as i did.

I would love to review the actual theater but I have not been able to enter. I purchased two tickets to the Dark Star showing and showed up at the door via an uber only to find the doors locked but with posters advertising the showing they were supposed to have. Upon calling the number listed on their site, I found that their number was disconnected. Finally I saw a notice on their facebook that the movie was cancelled and so we hopped back in the uber again and went home $40 poorer from uber for no reason. I had received ticket confirmation via email, I dont know why I was not contacted via email to know that the movie cancelled. I contacted Patio Theaters customer service a few days ago and still have not heard back which means I still havent gotten a refund for the two tickets. So far I am over $60 down from Patio Theaters poor management and have one really bummed out boyfriend who is a huge Giger fan.

The Patio is one of the older theaters in Chicago that has been revitalized in recent years. Worth noting as of now that Patio is no longer showing first-run Hollywood films as they have done in the past. After the air conditioning debacle that forced them to partially close over the summer they have opening the doors as exclusively a repertory theater. This is GREAT NEWS! Now Patio is screening classic films each week in addition the the Wednesday evening NWCFS screenings. This provides an excellent opportunity to view and revisit classic films on the big screen as they were meant to be. Also Patio is the new home for The Massacre, 24hr horror film fest in October. Id give them 5 stars if they overhauled the bathrooms but I still love this place.

Overall it was a good experience but as always with theaters concessions were a bit pricey. A can of Miller lite is $6. Which is ridiculous. I bought a hotdog for $5. Which I could understand if it were a decent hotdog but it was probably worse than oscar meyer. & do not I repeat do not buy a shot. Youre basically paying $6 for a tiny sip. It is no shot. Had I known I would have just bought another beer. But hey the movies were good & free cant beat that & its always nice to view films in a classic theater. I did enjoy myself.

Ive got fond memories of this place and probably saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone here the first time around, so when I saw "Harry Potter" on the marquee for weeks I had to come back. A lot has changed here since I was a kid. The addition of beer and pizza to the concession menu was wonderful. A lot has stayed the same as well, which is comforting in a way, but certain things (like the bathrooms!) could do with some changes as well. Hopefully this place stays running for a long time though.

If you like the small, dark wet smelling theater life. Then great! This place is for you! But for the rest of us that want a good experience while out at the movies. Not overpriced wrong-sized drinks and popcorn with shady "flavor" station. The amount of bugs I seen made my skin crawl and fear that if I did eat the popcorn my friends had gotten, Id be nibbling on a bug leg, rather than my treat. It makes small theaters look bad, in every way from the food to the staff. Not even sure it can be fixed.

It has a really really nostalgic feel far as old theater feel, the staff was pretty cool but, the day i went it was extremely cold in the Theater!!! they didnt bother to turn the heat on because they said they woulda had to turn the heat on like 12 hours before hand because they have a heater from 1912 or something, Parking is kinda "Find if you can" The bathrooms are kinda outdated, as in pee at your own risk . .. its no privacy stall blocking the urinal ,lol so....yea

Beautiful classic 1920s decor restored and nice. Surprisingly comfortable though for being such an old building. The prices are the best part, for 2 people to go and get a large drink and a large popcorn at the average ANC will cost us 32 dollars. At the patio however you cab go and get 2 large drinks 2 large popcorns, tickets and itll only cost 26 bucks. Everyone should visit this place once youll be back.

Old movie theater finally restored and reopened. It looked the same as it used to when I was there Halloween weekend. The heat did not work and it was absolutely freezing by the time the feature film was playing. After all the time the theater was closed youd think they wouldve done something about the horribly uncomfortable seating.

I want to like this place badly given its a small business and they provide a venue for a number of events that might not find on otherwise. The seats however inflict a torture that would make the Spanish Inquisition proud. Theres a sign stating the concessions stand is getting an upgrade so perhaps theyll earn another star shortly.

Wonderful restoration, beautifully done. Attending an event here is special. My friends and I often look at the film festivals that pass through here, then choose a film that is "out of our box". Combining a film at the Patio with a nice dinner and good wine is a perfect night in my book.

One of my favorite Chicago secrets. A Wednesday night spent watching an old movie from the NW Chicago Film Society, snuggled in the most beautiful huge theater, eating the cheapest popcorn in the city. Cool in the way that you dont want to share.
