We came through about a week or two before the expansion was opened which it was what it was. I wish the timing was better. The female staff behind the counter seemed like they just wanted our money. I cant remember if we received a military discount or not. If so, it wasnt much. (Update: l looked it up. We paid $16/each. We saved $2 for military veteran discount. That is almost insulting.) I remember that the cost of the museum was a fair amount but we could not pass up a chance to view the museum because it is Johnny Cash! (Well, most of it) The gentleman who took our tickets and stood by the entrance was nice and gave us a good greeting, He even shook my hand. The museum had some good items and photo worthy things to see and snap a picture of. I learned a few things that I didnt know. Handwritten notes from Johnny himself were pretty cool to read. It was a little short of a tour. I cant wait to see the expansion if/when we make it back. Once exited the museum went straight to highly overpriced merchandise. I understand about making money and keeping the museum open but for $7 for a small magnet that only had Sun Records logo on it and not Johnny Cash? $4 would have been a fair price. The other merchandise like shirts and larger memorabilia were so outrageously priced that I was turned off by the greediness. Yep, its Nashville! The little sandwich bar or snack bar or whatever they want to call it (a cafe?) was not open nor was it what I had expected from reading their website. It is such a small area and only sits 4 people on a high top bar type close together seating. We almost came here to eat the night before. We would have walked out being sadly and extremely disappointed not to mention angry by the misinformation. The atmosphere was nice having pictures of Cash on the walls with hanging Edison bulbs but that was the only thing that it had going for this "cafe". I needed to go to the restroom before we left and come to find out they are locked! I was then told that the combo was on my receipt. Its not easily readable on the receipt. The four numbers I found were the last four of my credit card. She reluctantly gave me the code after showing her my receipt. After all this security of guarding the precious restrooms a person would think that they would be as clean as the White House. Nope. Pretty filthy. People do complain about the parking and those meters do eat up the quarters really quickly so be aware. And you can only put in a few hours at a time so youll have to make a trip back between venues. I just wanted to add this in my review so people will know. This did not influence my 2 star rating of the museum. To raise the stars be less greedy. Be grateful and welcoming for guests traveling and stepping through your doors. Smile and be friendly and dont act like we were disturbing the clerks behind the counter because that is what we felt like. Dont up play the cafe part of the store, its misleading. More modest prices on merchandise will let you sell more and make more money. Support our veterans. Clean your restrooms! Like another reviewer mentioned, its like a large gift shop with a cafe and museum attached. Pretty much.

I really do not know where to being writing this review. There is just so much I want to say but, my wife and I toured the Cash museum today and it was everything I had hoped for. Forget these negative reviews about bad parking, rude employees, and cramped space. I experienced literally NONE of that on my trip to the museum today. It was absolutely amazing. I am a huge (almost on a unhealthy level) Johnny Cash fan so you can imagine the excitement and awe this experience gave me. It is one I will never forget. You will see one of a kind and very personal items from Cashs home and possessions that directly belonged to him. You will hear all too familiar music as you walk through and have many opportunities to experience some very cool interactive displays. We parked around the back of the museum and for around $26 or so we got 6 hours of parking in a premium space Im downtown Nashville. The tour and looking through the gift shop took about two hours of our time and the rest was spent simply walking around and enjoying the scenery and getting some lunch. So I really have no complaints at all about the parking. The tickets, my wife bought on Groupon which gets you two tickets for the price of one. Cant beat that deal!! So really the most expensive yet exciting thing to pay for was all my gift shop Johnny Cash goodies!!! Please, if you are in Nashville and are interested in Johnny Cash or just good old time country music and vintage one-of-a-kind items, please give this place a visit. I speak for myself when I say this has been my highlight of Nashville. Oh and while your there, look for a Mr. Randall Bart, an employee at the museum. He was EXTREMELY nice and had tons of very cool stories to tell as well as interesting and correct facts about Johnny Cash. He took the time to speak with my wife and I for nearly 30 minutes at the end of our tour to answer any questions and share some very good info, very great, knowledgeable, and helpful fellow. You can tell hes not just there for a paycheck. Anyways enough said, go check this place out! It is a Johnny Cash mecca!!!

I would rate the museum portion higher, however, it was quite difficult too, ONLY because of the overcrowding. I understand that theres a lot to read and see, however, perhaps only send parties in, at maybe 10 min intervals? Maybe that way, people would have a little more room because theyd have a little time between the next shuffle of customers. Overrall, the museum itself was a great site to see. Lots of fun facts, original memorbilia, and beautiful decor, from the original Cash estate. You are allowed to take photos, however, they request no flash photography. Honestly, I wouldve given the place 5 stars, had it not been for the massive over crowding. I went here with my stepmother, and I had been waiting almost a year to finally get an opportunity to go. I either got squished too much, or flat out couldnt see some of the facts, bc people were rude and refused to scoot over a little, to be equally considerate. (Dont bother expecting an "excuse me," from onlookers either; even in the South, not everyone is as friendly as their family taught them be.) Please consider timing intervals for your museum. I would Love to take my kiddos here to learn about a legend in music history, but there is NO way, even with kiddos who are trained to know that their mom will whack them if they act inappropriately in public, that I would risk taking my 8 and 11yo , in that kind of over crowdedness. (Note: We went on a weekend, however, I am sure the lines arent as horrible during the typical weekday.)
