This is another newly remodeled golf course by the City of Dallas. I played the older boring course and this remodel is very good. The course now has character and plays much stronger. Water hazards are everywhere and do come into play. Sand trap placement makes the better golfer think. There are mounds that can affect the roll of the shot. I disagree that this course is for beginners or intermediate alone; this course is a harder layout than before. Sure, the gun range sounds can be distracting on the south side of the course. But, this redo is impressive. Go play it!! UPDATE 2017: Let me take a minute to update my former review from about three years ago. I, and many of our golf group, play more than 50% of our rounds here each year. I buy Titleist clubs here, FootJoy shoes here, FootJoy shirts here, Titleist balls here and other various golf items here. The staff is led by Mickey Piersall and all golf shop personnel serve the golfers professionally, efficiently and with a friendly attitude. With their 10 minute gaps between tee times (basically, let the group in front get to the green before teeing off), golf can typically be played in just under four hours (better than most courses). The layout is still a challenge from any tee (remember, "Tee It Forward") as noted in the course rating and slope. As noted by others, the range is very good, the practice green/sand trap well kept and the putting green gives a true feel to the speed of the greens on the course. This is an excellent public course that ranks high in comparison to fine country clubs. Taking cost of a round, the golf shop and staff as well as the course itself into consideration, this could easily be the best "bang for the buck" in the DFW Metroplex.

I used to come here three times a week and enjoyed playing here. On November 23rd, I made a tee time at 3:50pm and was excited to play the course with my brother coming in from out of town. We showed up 10-15 minutes early for our tee time. The staff stacked up 3 groups to tee off at the same time including ourselves. It was 4:10 and we still hadnt teed off, so at this point I was pretty upset. I went back into the clubhouse explained the situation, and after a back-and-forth exchange they agreed to letting us go off the back nine. Needless to say, as we approached the 10th green, we were asked by a staff member who rode up to us on a golf cart, to pick up our balls and move to the next hole. He mentioned that the guy behind us had complained that he was coming around and we shouldnt have been playing in front of him. First of all, we were playing incredibly fast and he was still on the tee box when we were approaching green. Second of all, I paid just like everyone else and already had started our round 20 minutes late thanks to the staff not knowing how to schedule, and then they ask us to pick up our balls? To make matters worse, from the 13th hole on till we finished our round, the jerk playing behind us was yelling obscenities at us and throwing up his hands the entire time like a wild banshee. He had ZERO golf etiquette and did not belong on a course. He should have asked if he could play us up and we would have gladly let him. We had a terrible experience, Luna Vista has lost loyal customer, and we will not come back again. Just ridiculous.

Taking into account the current conditions with lots of heat and little rain this course was actually in really good shape. I never played it when it was LB Houston but I have no complaints about the layout. Unfortunately the previous comments about the gun range are very true. A few of the holes on the mid front nine sound like you are in the middle of a gun fight and actually make you want to duck for cover. The only other aspect I would like to mention are the biting flies. They first appeared on the driving range and stuck around for the whole round. So if you want to play without the annoyance of these flies landing on you and biting you I would suggest some serious bug spray. But thats just nature nothing the facility did wrong.

Wonderful Staff-- PGA PROs ( Mickey Piersal and Brooks Muse) and Starter very friendly and helpful. Played a full round Well maintained course , delightful to play on, Excellent landscaping and environs. If you are lucky and keep a lookout you might get to see a hawk ( from the woods) on one of the greens. Flock of Canada geese (grazing) add to the charm. Shooting range in the neighbourhood , reminded me of playing at home during Diwali festival. Preferred the buggy- due the heat--was less tiresome.Cart tracks designed for the "safe player". Looking forward to playing there again when around next Dr.B,A.Anantharam.

This is really is a great course. One if my favorites in Dallas. Really everything I am looking for in a course. Great range, great practice chipping area, and putting. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Their twighlight and sundown rates are awesome. You cant beat $14 walking this course! Great food and drink selections. The eating area is always clean and they have a couple tvs with golf always on. I would definitely recommend this course!

Nice little track near the office. Came out here to play after work and was able to walk 18 in a little over 3 hours. Well maintained as everything was mostly green and cut short. It was a little dry and it really came to play around the greens where anything 170+ out was tough to stick. The greens were great to putt on and rolled true. Really enjoyed this course and will definitely be back for more post-work rounds, only $14 too.

Im less than a year into playing golf and I had a lot of fun playing here. Decent course for the green fee, good bunker placements, huge putting greens coupled with treacherous pin placements sometimes make it very fun. A bad approach could put someone in a tricky spot getting up and down. Not a great deal of cuts of grass, its pretty much just fairway and not-so-fairway, might also get a few hops when putting.

As munis go this is an excellent course. Staff is always very friendly and easy going which is refreshing. Much of the course is constantly under repair but considering this course floods easily and often I think the grounds crew does a great job keeping it playable. I regularly get 18 in under 3 hours as well. This is now my go-to-course in Dallas.

Fun course! A nice variety of shots come into play and quite a few signature holes. Considering its a muni and price i would say this is a pretty good deal. Only big problem is pace of play (it gets crowded), and also the course could use a couple more bunkers here and there for some more challenge.

The course is nicer but earlier when it was LBJ if you wanted to get a quick half round in before 9 am, they would let us tee off the back 9 by 7, 7:15 and charge you a 9 hole rate. They dont allow that anymore...Muni course should encourage more golf play with more options for the customers..
