The Carmike Thoroughbred 20 is simply the worst theater in the greater Nashville area. I cannot express how happy I am that Opry Mills re-opened, so I can finally stop frequenting this underwhelming theater. Where to begin? In the last few months, I have been to no less than 5 movies where the lights were left on once the feature began. This is such a minor but annoying mistake, I cant understand how they keep making it. Here are some more specific examples of their poor quality- when I went to see The Adventures of TinTin, their 3D was not calibrated properly. So, despite having to miss the first few minutes, I went and complained. They finally fixed it (as best as I could tell), but forgot to open the curtains, so the picture was cut off significantly on the sides. Had to go complain AGAIN. I walked out into the lobby and informed one of their employees, who, as I watched from around the corner, proceeded to start texting on his phone instead of alerting management. The lights were also left on during the previews. I paid high price to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in one of their larger theaters. During the entire feature, squiggly blue lines kept appearing on the screen all over the place. Unacceptable! I attended a midnight showing of one of the Harry Potter films. The level of disorganization and lack of customer service during this event was simply shameful. On top of this, they packed hundreds of eager fans into the lobby, but the lobby restrooms were out of service (as they frequently are) but did not allow anyone to use the other restrooms. How can you not offer working restrooms to your customers, especially when your theater is PACKED with them for HOURS waiting to see a feature? Unacceptable, and likely a health code violation. When I went to see Drive, it was clear that the theater had been previously used for 3D and they did not re-calibrate their projection. The image was so dim, you could hardly see what was happening. Having seen the film again at a different theater, there was an enormous difference in quality. I attended the Harry Potter marathon. Rather than run 35MM prints, they simply projected the blu-rays. Not the worst thing in the world, but they did not re-calibrate the sound. It was so quiet it sounded like only one speaker was working, and I could hear other customers breathing around me. I complained once - nothing was done. Complained again - nothing was done. I doubt the management was even alerted. Out of the 75 or so films I have seen at this theater over the last 2 years, I would say that 50 had at least one significant issue that needed to be fixed. How, in this day in age, with the economy being what it is, could you be comfortable with this level of quality, especially in a struggling business? Oh yeah, and their BIGD is the biggest ripoff Ive ever experienced at a theater. You can pay LESS and see a film on a true IMAX screen with IMAX quality sound. Why bother?

Let me just start off by saying the staff of the T-20 is some of the best around. Ive been there and seen the amount of business they do its insane. They area always cleaning up after massive rushes and the theaters always seem clean after the crew comes in after a show. The seats are comfortable which makes the experience better. The sound quality is superb and visually the movies look great. I do agree that the theater does need some renovations to make it more modern which will help with some of the issues that people seem to complain about. It sometimes seems like half of franklin can be at the theater all at once especially for star wars. The concessions area always seems to have all 8 registers open with several people backing them up to assist in the amount of time between people which is great to cut down on lines. I find that more often the people who write reviews on here are upset because of the prices and blame the people who work there for it. These kids dont have any control on the prices, and dont set them. So blaming them and being rude to them because of that really is not the way to handle yourself in any situation. I was there last week behind a person in line who got upset with one of the employees at the concessions stand because they were not allowed to give out bags to split the popcorn. I overheard the employee tell the person that the company counts stock of each item and could not just give them a bag for free they would have to charge them. They offered to give them free courtesy cups or trays to split the popcorn but this guy wouldnt let it go. He was really rude and sarcastic and made the employee get the manager who told them the same thing. Slowed the whole line down, and i felt bad for the employee who had to just sit there and take it with a smile on their face. Ive always had a pleasant experience here with the staff and the quality of the movies. Yes the prices are high but its FRANKLIN people what do you expect it is the richest county in the state for a reason and no one has to go to a movie its something you want to do so expect to spend the cash for it and not blame the people that work there.

I bought tickets on Christmas Day to see War Horse in Franklin, TN at the Thoroughbread 20 theater from Fandango (which doesnt allow you to get Carmike points if you use it). I also paid $5 extra to get the tickets. We got there 30 min. early and the sign said to "wait in the Lobby" so we waited. 20 minutes later we decided to see if we could go on in. The guy took our tickets and when we walked in almost every seat was taken. REALLY??? We were there with our family. A tradition we have done every Christmas for years. The next two shows were sold out. We went to the Manager on duty and were told she would give us tickets for another day but couldnt refund our Fandango charges. I demanded and she finally gave in. Also... we spent $23 on 4 large drinks and wanted our money back for those since we werent staying and she wanted to take all of our drinks back before she would give us the money. When I said that this ruined a Family Christmas tradition and we should at least get to keep our drinks she, in turn, replied that she had to leave her family at home and work so we could come to the movies. AGAIN.... REALLY??? Carmike.... Ive had it with YOU. I am taking my business back to Regal. Your prices have gone back up.... Your rewards program SUCKS.... Your concessions lines are run by MORONS with no pride in their job and with no customer service and how could we expect more when the Management Staff doesnt even Care. You need a MAJOR Leadership Overhaul to get my business. I am copying this letter to my Facebook.... A blog that I write.... and to the local news outlets.... I am sad that in such an affluent area of Nashville you do not see how important it is to be a community leader and that the potential for greater revenue comes from FIRST... serving that community with Great Service. Goodbye from a Very Faithful Movie Goer. ( I probably pay for 50 to 75 tickets a year )
