I attended a live show for the podcast My Favorite Murder at the Vic. The building is interesting, architecturally, and conveniently located near the Belmont red-line stop. Pros: • Large, yet intimate venue with balcony seating and an open area on the main floor near the stage. • You can buy drinks at the back of the main floor, on either side of the room, and it never seemed overly crowded • If you dont feel like getting up to get yourself a drink, there is a nice person who will come around with an tablet to take your drink order and bring it to you. Cons: • Since I wasnt seeing a concert, the main floor was used as a seating area, and was lined with hard, uncomfortable folding chairs. Not fun to sit in for 2+ hours. • The bathroom (womens) was disgusting (stall was flooding, smelled like vomit and poop) and didnt seem especially clean even though I visited at the very BEGINNING of the event. The cons didnt ruin my night, however, and overall, this seems like a pretty great place to see a band you like, or to go to the Brew and View area to see a movie and have a beer.

Had a private event for our organization at the venue. Venue was great but the security staff were on a massive, massive power trip. Theres two adjacent exit doors. Arbitrarily, if you exit through one, you can re-enter. Exit through the other, you cannot. Adjacent doors. Stepped out with 3 friends, one of them went through the "wrong door" and that was that. Security didnt allow him back inside despite the fact he had a paid ticket to the show. There wasnt a single fathomable reason why he should not have been let back in while the rest of us were. It was completely asinine. Whats more, the security folks were almost gleeful at being able to enforce this ludicrous rule, forcing my friend to uber back home by himself despite half the show he paid for still remaining. Nobody was remotely inebriated either. Management: please ensure your security staff works with your customers and not against them.

I hate it when performers decide to use this place as their venue. The experiences here is the worst. First off, DO NOT BRING UMBRELLAS BECAUSE THE SECURITY STAFF WILL TAKE IF AWAY! It was a rainy day and we waited in line for an hour and decided not to be drenched in that hour. But even though my umbrella was the-size-of-my-palm small, the staff wont allow me to bring it in. Apparently, this little thing that cant even hurt a fly is a security hazard? Ridiculous. Also, if the security was a little faster, and we wont have to wait for an hour just to filter in, that would have been better. And even if the show was great, when I leave the venue and have to walk in the rain afterwards, that horrible damp feeling will only be associated with the feeling of coming to the Vic. Also, whats up with jamming the fold-up chairs in there as if the people wanting to sit there has no legs?

The Vic is an older venue that shows its age, however its a great intimate experience for a concert venue. I saw Aloe Blacc there, and the sound quality was a lot better than you might first expect upon walking in. The Vic, The Aragon Ballroom, and The Riveria all kind of circle in the same sphere, as they are roughly the same size, in close proximity to each other, and are older slightly rundown venues. Of those three, The Vic had the best sound quality for a concert as its a little bit smaller so the sound carries better regardless of where you sit. Id highly recommend going here. There are a lot of good bars in the area as it is just south of Wrigleyville. Its easy to grab a drink at Matilda and then walk down the block to see a show at the Vic.

Went to see Belly here a couple of weeks ago - my hearing is still recuperating. Finally, a chance to see one of my favorite bands for over 20 years, and the sound system was so loud and distorted almost every song was unrecognizable. I went to several locations in the house - balcony and main floor - and they all sucked. What a shame to utterly destroy the otherwise beautiful vocals of Tanya Donelly as well as the rest of the band. Why do talented artists allow these venues to trash their music like this? Lower the decibels so everyone can enjoy the music!!! And start hiring and training sound mixers who arent tone deaf and whose hearing isnt already trashed by their own inability to keep the volume at a reasonable level!!!

I went to BoyFriends First US Showcase on March 12th, 2014. The show was amazing, but the venue and its staff were HORRIBLE. I was YELLED at repeatedly unreasonably. A member of my group was GRABBED by the arm and YANKED by one of the staff members. One of the security staff that was showing the audience the way to the door was PUSHING them out of the door. The staff was unprofessional in both their behavior and their wardrobe. I couldnt tell if they were part of the audience or not. The ticket distribution system was unorganized and confusing. During the show, two of the speakers BROKE! We all saw the confusion on the artists faces and it was a horrible sound to have interrupt your concert.

My fiance and I went there for the nerdist podcast. The lobby was gorgeous, and looked great with all the swag from the different vendors. When we got into the theater the seats were a little small and it was a little uncomfortable squeezing into there. In their defense I am not the littlest guy. The bathrooms were scary and I thought I was going to be in the next saw movie. Other than that the show was great, drinks were overpriced but that is as usual for a show in chicago. I actually proposed to my fiance in front of + nerdist and all in all it was a good experience. If you are looking to go to a good venue with a little outdated seating this is all in all a pretty good place to go.

The sound isnt the best but the venue is pretty fun, spacious, and interesting. Ive been to a few good shows there and I think the variety of music. They also play movies there, but I wouldnt really recommend it unless its a movie you dont care about and you just want something to do (and socialize) because you wont be able to hear it very well or pay attention. Tickets for events are pretty reasonable, and if you drive around long enough, youll probably find parking. Plus, there are plenty of things to do before or after the show.

I went to go see Dean and club Eskimo perform and as I was waiting for dean outside with other fans a drunk man approached a woman and felt on her. It was completely inapporiate and when me and other people told the sercurity guard he ignored the problem. This venue need to reevaluate their security because they need to know how to not only protect the artist(s) but also the concert attendees. Outside needs to be just as secure as the inside was. The inside was fine but it doesnt take away from the problems on the outside

At 1,300 person capacity the cozy Vic Theatre can pack in enough fans to create a real sense of excitement while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere. With virtually no bad sight lines, it really is Chicagos finest musical venue. In recent years its hosted Wilco for the taping of their heralded live album "Kicking Television," Cage The Elephant for their live album "Live from the Vic in Chicago" and even legends such as Paul Simon!
