Student run cinema that prides itself on screening a variety of 35mm films. the film selection is always interesting and Ive seen and re-seen quite a number of great movies at 5th Avenue Cinema. Presentation is almost always good. The projectionist(s) mostly frame the movies very consciously and carefully and attend to focus issues promptly. There have been exceptions, though. The free for PSU students occasionally brings in students who dont care about the film and can be a bit disruptive - but that is rare. More often distraction will come from the noise of the crowd for the second show gathering toward the end of the first show. I usually attend the second show or Sunday matinee to avoid that. Price is great even for non-students and the free bag of popcorn is nice. The soda is cheap, too, so they arent gouging on that after making you thirsty with the popcorn.

in attempting to buy tickets on line I entered my credit card info in the standard way which is month/year BUT the system SKIPS the slash, so I corrected my entry BUT was informed it was now blocked because of my error! A number to call was provided BUT they said WE didnt block it it must have been the ticket seller. FINE but there is no way to contact them and Fifth avenue cinemas doesnt answer their phone! Tried a week later to buy tickets but it is still blocked from many days ago!

As other reviews say, the place is not a fancy movie theatre. Comparing it to other venues would be unfair, since this is a student run business. Fifth Avenue Cinema is a gem for campus students. Free popcorn, free entry with an ID, and a wonderful selection of often ignored films. I urge all students to take advantage of this resource, since it is your attendance that allows them to keep making this happen.

Sure the venue isnt too fancy but the film selection is great. The most hard to find and interesting films can be found here. $3 for general public, $2 for a student, and FREE for PSU students! Cant beat the price and everyone gets free popcorn. I love this place and its student ran! Amazing to be supporting student work and at the same time enjoying a wonderful film!

Great theater that plays a lot of foreign and obscure films on 35mm, but isnt afraid to play a modern film every now and then. If youre a PSU student you get in free as well as free popcorn. Soda is surprisingly cheap and they dont try to murder your wallet like other theaters. Space seating is also really nice...plenty of leg room!

5th Avenue Cinema is a cinematic gem! Its one of the last cinemas on Portland to screen only 35mm film prints. They constantly have a great selection of classic, rare, and independent films. PSU students and regular folks love this cinemas devotion to good films. Plus, its super cheap and there is always fresh popcorn.

FREE FOR STUDENTS, and also free popcorn! just show them your PSU ID, and youll get in for free, sometimes they have great movies. The only issue is PSU dont want to pay more to replace the cheap chairs, also, this place is also PSU classes.

Free popcorn and free movies for PSU students, cheap for non students. They show a nice variety of movies from art house films to bigger movies on a second run.

This place is a great local theater. They have old film projectors that make your movie going experience authentic.
