The Twin offers 1st run movies at 2nd run prices for matinees. They used to be cash only, but now accept cards. However, bringing cash helps the line go faster when buying tickets, and its better for small businesses. There is a smaller theater upstairs with the larger theater downstairs. Some of the seats in the downstairs theater are unbalanced and need to be repaired, but this is only an issue if you arrive late to the opening night of a big release. Theres usually ample good seating. The upstairs is wheelchair accessible by ramp, but theres no elevator. Kids can watch movies unaccompanied before 8 pm. (Thats a big deal for this mom of a 14 year old. I dont have to watch the latest teen flick unless I really want to!) They offer full concessions to include pizza, soda, candy, popcorn, beer/cider, and more. Their family combo of 2 large drinks and 1 large popcorn for $10 is the way we usually go. The theater is older. (There are only 2 stalls in the womens restroom compared to the 20 stalls in a Regal theater. Some of the seats need to be repaired in the downstairs theater.) But the value for the money is unbelievable!

Its not as fancy as the larger chain, and the food isnt as good as the local chain. But it is an independent cinema, it is local, it shows first run movies, and it has excellent prices. Most of all, this theatre, alone of all the theatres in the Portland area, reminds me of what local cinema is about. They gave over both their theatres to Straight Outta Compton when that film came out, looking to draw in their local community. They are friendly, the place is clean. Perhaps it isnt as comfortable as some, but its relaxing for a couple hours of entertainment. And they do sell food, if you want it, or you could walk across the street to the Burgerville and get food there after the film is over. Its perfect for me.

This is my favorite place to go to a movie in Portland. Not only do they have first run movies, they have excellent popcorn with Parmesan Cheese and Yeast, as well as great beer and pizza. After going here, it is ruined me for the large national chains such as Regal. Why go anywhere else when you have an awesome place such as the St. Johns Theatre? I feel so lucky to live in a neighborhood with such a quality gathering spot. Also, I appreciate what they do for children when they host the twice annual kids matinees. Thank you St. Johns Theatre! I really appreciate you being there.

Its a lovely old building. Audio system is updated. No bleed through sound from 2nd theater. The audience does get the big screen experience. A cinema in our little downtown contributes to the livability of the community. Im not beer drinker and no pizza for me as Im gluten free so I cant comment in the food fare. When Im ready to see a movie this will be a place Ill consider. The +21 rule after 8pm does seem to mean youre not paying to hear children and babies in the background of your show.

This theater reminds me of the small town I grew up in. Its sorta small with two screens, but the workers there are very friendly and the food/beer selection is delicious! My only complaint is the current state of the seating. Most of the seats are old and offer little support for ones back during a 2-3 hour movie. My suggestion is to go early to ensure you find one of the non-broken seats, trust me, its worth it!

The cutest theater you could ask for! Tasty food, cheap shows--if only it didnt shut down to minors after eight pm... St. Johns is lucky to have it around. The Hot Lips soda is far superior to the fountain drinks. Candy prices arent extortionate, but the pizzas the good deal. Sometimes the kiddos get obnoxious, but its sort of fun to hear everyone around you reacting to a kitschy trailer or something.

this place is 5 stars for a reason. Its local which is a big A + in my book. Its not overpriced like the majority of theaters in Portland. Its small which can be a + or -. They only show two movies at a time, but that really doesnt bother me. I love this place and it is really the only theater I will go to anymore. Tip no minors for movies that start after 8pm.

Historic independent theatre with just two screens. Upstairs is the much smaller theatre. Downstairs theatre also has more seating available with a table. Parking lot "for Oregon plates only" and inexpensive ticket prices. Candy, soda, popcorn, pizza, beer, juice, water, and wine are able to be purchased for a decent price.

In a prior life this little nostalgic theatre was for live performances with a stage and orchastra pit. It is now converted into two movie theater spaces (main floor - larger and mezzanine - smaller). In addition to the usual soft drinks, popcorn, and candy, folks can enjoy pizza, craft brew and wine.

This theater is old and slightly rundown, but honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how cute it was inside. I hear they serve Hot Lips Pizza, and the interior reminded me of some of the McMenamins theaters. Cute and I love that its in my neighborhood! Also, a great deal for a cheap movie!

An iconic theater in North Portland. Still very reasonably priced, especially for matinees (pre 5 or 6PM) on weekends. Freshly made popcorn with (I think) real butter, good craft brews, pizza, etc. It has 2x fun, small theaters where youre right in the action and most seats are great.

My go-to cinema whenever I want to watch a movie (and as long as theyre playing it, of course). Seating is cozy, especially if you opt for the long tables when you get pizza and beer. Ticket prices are actually pretty OK, especially if, like me, this place is within walking distance.

Simply cant beat this place. Crazy affordable matinee or Evening first run movies. Fantastic classic theater. Worth traveling to St. Johns just to catch a flick here. "Small" pitchers of beer available. Tasty popcorn. Movie + beer + popcorn still cheaper than a national chain.

Great prices. CRAPPY PIZZA!! Used to have better pizza. We used to go to this theater all the time, but since they changed their pizza, the kids just dont like going here anymore. They still have great ticket prices for first run movies and excellent popcorn and drink prices.

I LOVE the St Johns Twin Cinemas. Great prices, great movies, love having delicious beer and pizza while watching a flick! Locally owned and operated and all the folks who work there are great people. OH! And they open new blockbuster films THE DAY BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE!

This is a gem of a theater in downtown St. Johns. Ive been going here as long as I can remember. Be sure to order up some popcorn and a plastic pitcher of draft beer to properly enjoy your movie. Upstairs theater is a little small, but theaters are clean and comfy.

What a great local theatre. St. Johns Twin Cinemas and Pub is cozy. Its my kind of movie place. The movies are affordable and the seats are comfty. I cant say anything about the food, because I didnt get any. If a movie theatre could be homey, this would be it.

Comfy, cheap and local. The only place I ever want to go see a movie ever again! I love that they turned the balcony into an enclosed second theatre. Steep raked seating upstairs so youre super close. Recent renovations really improved the sound quality too.
