My biggest gripe with Bowl-A-Roll is how they host smokers. If youre a smoker, this is the perfect alley for you. The ash bins are right outside the front doors, which is ~20 feet recessed behind the front wall of the building. Especially in the winter, the smokers sit right outside the doors and fill the entryway with cigarette smoke. When its particularly bad, you can smell the smoke when youre at the first 5 lanes. I have asked a friendly lady at the front desk if this was an item of concern. She said they have gotten complaints about it, but they do not want to anger the smokers by making them stand further out in the cold. She didnt have the power to make such a decision, but she said the owners have been approached about it in the past and have rejected any changes. The customer-facing employees here, for the most part, are friendly. The techs at the alley are most definitely not nice. Theyre rude and begrudgingly help with their antiquated equipment or stuck pins/gates. Finally, the equipment here is absolutely terrible. Nothing here has been replaced since the late 80s or early 90s. They have old CRT TVs, smoke-stained yellow enclosures, and terrible computer systems that are hard to operate and hard to read. They charge $3.75 per game and have leagues that are full many nights of the week. With the amount of money they have coming in, there is absolutely no reason they should not have upgraded by now. Their new bartender is also not the nicest. However, they do have decent drink specials (~$7 for a decent pitcher of beer.) *Sorry about the huge paragraph - google wont show the paragraph formatting.

I disagree with the comments that are rating this alley in the "fair" category! Bowl a Roll is delightfully quirky, and I mean that in a good way. Unlike the slick and over-priced lanes in other parts of the city, this is a mom and pop kind of establishment. As a bowler there and as a league regular, I have come to know the staff and part of the charm for me is that they treat me like family. They can be gruff and yes, the running of the business can sometimes baffle me a little, but it is a place I love to be. The prices are lower than other alleys and it is family friendly in every way (unlike Clover Lanes with their questionable music videos). It is stepping back in time perhaps, but Bowl a Roll is a place we meet friends, take our children and chat with the regulars ....kind of like "Cheers where"everyone knows my name!

The people were very rude. One of the members with us had to where braces on her legs and just wanted to come and watch but they wouldnt let her stay unless she took her braces off to where the bowling shoes she HAD to pay to rent them even though she wasnt playing or going near the lanes.

I mean ... its a bowling alley. Lol. Service was okay (tho they had us a little mixed up trying to work around league events). It was clean and orderly the way a nice bowling alley should be. Didnt have any food or drinks, just a couple sets with friends who only bowl every few years.

This is a nice place to have a fun night with friends. They have college nights on Sundays and Mondays, when students can play for $1 per game. The lanes are a little short, but arent bad. They also have a few other specials going on every day of the week.

This is honestly my favorite place to go bowling in the Rochester area. The owner is a really nice and friendly guy and will even give you pointers if you ask him. They have deals everyday too which make it so you get the most out of your money.

The place looks kind of old and is a bit small. If they do kids bowl free during the summers- just pay for shoe rentals. Prices are good. Havent tried the food. Bowling is fun there. They have the cosmic bowling with music and lights at night.

First, it is NOT AMF/Bowlmore. An independent bowling center that is clean, fun, with well maintained lanes and machinery. A knowledgeable staff and a GREAT snack bar makes this an ideal family fun stop or a home for league players.

Opening time for open bowl listed online wasnt really opening time so we had to wait a pretty long time to even get a lane. I even called ahead to confirm when open bowl was going to be that night. Other than that its good bowling

I wanted a bowling retro experience and thats what we got! Added bonus was the food is surprisingly delicious! My vege burger was amazing. Pitcher prices are reasonable and service was great. Highly recommended for family fun.

Great prices and well kept lanes. The amenities are a bit rustic, but it adds to the oldschool bowling feel. I was here during mid-day and it wasnt too crowded, but I can imagine it fills up at nights and on weekends.

Bowling lanes are decent, but dont magically make you better at bowling. Somewhat limited beer selection, but more than just the big names. Fair prices for alcohol, food is also reasonably prices, especially the wings

They asked to take our drivers licence in order to rent shoes. They kept our licences in the back until we were done. Thats too strange we wont be going back

Shoes were brand new, lanes were shiny and I kicked my brothers butt. He gets the comeback chance tonight with $0.25 a game!

The bowling is good, but the workers are so rude and obnoxious. They act like youre dumb and very un-professional.

Awesome old-timey bowling hall with a nice retro feel. Bob, Betty, and Ray who work the front desk are super nice.

Sunday night is college night so games are only a dollar a person with a college ID. Makes bowling affordable

Always seems like the staff is annoyed to help you, been going there since 08 and it never seems to improve.
