I can describe this magnificent place, its physical attributes, or its uniqueness as a Las Vegas locale, but that would diminish its charm and appeal on you, the theater-goers. Who would want to do that to such a place as the Smith Center? So instead, I will describe how I feel upon walking into the Smith Center for a night with Ira Glass as he talks about re-inventing the radio. Have you ever watched films like The Great Gatsby or Camille and felt dazzled by the glitz, the glamour, the extravagance, the energy of the incredibly exclusive parties, the anticipation and excitement of the partygoers as they eat, dance and mingle with one another? This was how I felt the moment I walked through the thick glass doors of the Smith Center. I felt as though I was transported into a different era! The lobby welcomed me with a vast and expansive space where marble glistens by light illuminated from the exquisite chandeliers hanging from the tall ceiling. Oh, and the grand staircase, how beautiful it was as the steps curve upward into the ceiling, revealing multiple levels of the theater. Entering the main atrium, I discovered rows and rows of comfy seats in a smart layout, in that each seat is slightly off to the center of the seat in front, allowing the audience to watch the stage without having the person in front of them blocking the entire view. Im surprised this layout isnt more widely adopted by public theaters! As I sat down and the show began, my eyes feasted upon the stage in front of me and at the beautifully hanging drapery layers of the walls and the ceiling. It was a great show delivered by Ira Glass. But above all, the Smith Center is a great great place that each Las Vegas resident needs to experience at least once.

I went to see the Phantom of the Opera here and it was my first time visiting the Smith Center. The place overall was absolutely stunning. Any staff we encountered was nice and professional. They even offered us a golf cart shuttle to/from the parking lot. The website seem to try its best to depict the seating of the theater. At this time, Ill only comment on where my seats were for this specific show. We purchased 2 seats in the front center of the balcony area. I tried to read reviews before purchasing. One said it was high up, but since they were the only 2 seats next to each other remaining and the closest, we took a chance. The balcony level is on the 5th floor. The safety bar in front of us was a little distracting since we are kind of looking down to watch the show. However, it seemed, every other row had the bar up there. The show also starts fairly promptly and it gets pitch black and difficult to try to walk to your seat, especially dead center. The show itself was spectacular! I didnt see much obstruction that was listed for some of the other seats. Next time Ill choose any other location but the balcony.

Management was totally unresponsive....The center had the opportunity to correct this situation. We spent significant money to get the very best seats to The Book Of Mormon. We had box seats and arrived early only to find our seats were upper box seats equipped with only tall Bar stool type seats. They were not very comfortable but we went with that. The show started and then the theatre allowed the other box seat patrons to enter the box. They were large people with lots of hair who could not sit still. We were now unable to view the stage at all. We spoke to management and after some delay we were given disability related seats at the very back of the theatre. We again asked for better seats or compensation and all they said is.. sorry- there was nothing wrong with our original seats. We indicated again how we were wronged and what they might have done differently, only to have them refuse any admission, consolation or solution. Very disappointing to have no recourse and to be treated to totally inferior seats and seating!!!

A beautiful and fantastic venue where every visit is memorable. Ive wanted something like this to be built here for years and yet it still surprises me to see something this elegant and tasteful in Las Vegas. There isnt a bad seat in the house, but the balcony might give you pause if youre afraid of heights. My favorite level is the Dress Circle, its smack in the middle, not on the floor, not as high as the balcony, and its very small. You feel like youre in a more intimate venue, separated from the masses on the floor below and the balcony above, but it fills up very fast. I do wish the areas around The Smith Center would be built up faster. It would benefit from some closer restaurants (within walking distance) and more developed parking. The random parking barriers thrown up to create "VIP" parking and the lack of actual walking paths through the parking area are a bit of an eye-sore, but that will all get sorted in time.

We have had season tickets for the Smith Center since the first year it opened, and we will certainly be hanging onto our seats. They are bringing in first class touring groups from all the biggest Broadway hits - when my husband and I visited New York City this fall, we were hard pressed to find something wonderful that we hadnt already seen. My favorite new musical so far this year? The Book of Mormon, hands down. Plus there are lots of specialty concerts, ballets and plays that cant be beat. One of the best performances in this category was Tellers version of "The Tempest," a truly "enchanted" version of Shakespeares classic play. (Please bring it back - we want to see it again!) The Smith Center is a beautiful venue and the acoustics are perfect. You couldnt ask for better and we are just so happy that the arts have finally come to our city.

Gorgeous theater, highly accessible, and excellent acoustics. I have set up audio equipment here for a few events that hired my former employer, and I have enjoyed watching events here, and the sound is great throughout the theater. Im not wheelchair-bound, but I now have limited mobility due to a partially paralyzed leg, and getting to even the balcony seats is quick and easy. Im only giving it four stars though, because the parking situation is inconvenient and borders on the chaotic at every event. This is something that usually gets a few comments from people working in the local event production racket whenever the Smith Center is discussed. Its still a great theater though, and the Cheesecake Factory two blocks away makes it a perfect dining and entertainment location!

People bump into you and you have to excuse yourself for catching in others hair; the seating is so poorly designed. We spent TOP dollar on seats that in any other venue in Vegas would have been prime view and prime experience. We could barely see the show from heads in our way. The facade and acoustics are wonderful, but I would expect more in the way of tiered seating from a modern and state of the art facility. I will not likely spend money here again! Save yourself the dissappointment and sit on the lawn at an outdoor or attend a lesser known venue for the same qualtiy, the same comfort, but far less price gouging. I am certain high school auditoriums provide better visual experience through their seating design than the Smith Center!
