Altamaha conducts guided kayak tours, rents kayaks, canoes and bicycles, and provides shuttle services in the Darien area. My 84 year old mother and I took the 3 hour guided kayak trip on Cathead Creek. Chris, guide and owner, was fantastic! Neither of us had kayaked before(we did have some canoeing experience), and Chris assured me he could take us. He took excellent care of us, with special attention to make sure my mom was safe. He is knowledgeable of the area and gave us plenty of information about the water, wildlife and plants along the way. The Cathead Creek trip was beautiful! I highly recommend it or another of their trips if youre in the area.

If youre a wildlife lover, the Altamaha River BioReserve is the place to visit. From the river to the estuary, its diversity is what the Nature Conservancy knew this to be special and worth protecting. AND theyve got bikes for those interested in exploring the Altamaha Natural Area as well as adjacent historic Darien. Keep coming back over and over !

Easy access to one of the worlds Greatest Places - as proclaimed by the Nature Conservancy. Great daily or overnight guided tours. So many different areas to explore via canoe/kayak or bikes, that you can spend many weeks exploring all there is to see and do. AND theres lots to do no matter what time of the year you come to visit.
