This is the only independent art house cinema Sacramento has left, since the Crest sadly discontinued its daily films last Spring. And I was pleasantly surprised to find Tower has brought back its all beef-frank. Im not a big frank fan, its purely nostalgia. Something about munching a dog at a Saturday matinee in an historic art house. The best films Ive experienced, Ive seen at the Tower. Im proud to have exposed my son to true art and entertainment, through these films, while he was growing up. There are mainstream films shown here, many have been nominated or won Oscars. Sure, the seats arent so comfortable and the two small screens are a bit funky, but one can always opt to view the new releases while theyre still in the main large theater. And for the budget-minded, Towers admission fees are below others in the area: $1.75 less for matinees; $1.50 less for seniors and kids; and $1.25 less for general. So a family of four could take grandma and grandpa to the Tower for $42 or pay over $50 at Century. For me, Ill continue to support the Tower and hope new customers will also see the benefits.

Found this gem thanks to the 70mm Roadshow for the Hateful 8. Wow, what an experience. A little rough around the edges compared to a modern cinema. But thats just the point, and it adds to the character and authenticity of this amazing venue. Stepping under the neon lit tower into the glorious moderne lobby is like taking a step back in time. You just cant replicate theatre experiences like this. The place is dripping in history, has stood since Hollywoods golden age, and is still here delivering entertainment and escapism. I was reminded why "the theatre experience" is something we have such an emotional connection to. And I felt transported back to some of those first visits. The imposing large room, the soft lighting, the frisson of excitement and the sense of awe. It helped that the movie we watched was presented in glorious 70mm panavision, and with crystal clear audio that managed to deliver clear speech while retaining soaring mid and bass tones. I will be returning again and again. The popcorn was good too ;-)

I cannot say anything bad about Tower Theater no matter what anyone else says. It is a sad thing that Tower and the Crest are all we have to watch independent and foreign films. I grew up in New York City and there were plenty of places to have such chances, some luxurious, and some gritty and old. I think the seats are plenty comfortable and I have arthritis and osteoarthritis in my back and hips. What matters to me is the big screen, taking me to places no other theatres will take me to except the Crest. I just saw "My Afternoons with Margueritte" and have recommended it to many/all my friends before it, too, disappears all to quickly because there are SO MANY great films that never get to regular, old boring american theaters. Shame on all of you who dont appreciate Tower Theatre and the service it provides. HURRAY FOR TOWER AND MAY IT LAST FOREVER!

Tower is my favorite theatre in the area because 1) they have a quality over quantity approach to movies, 2) its got an old school feel, 3) the people working there are always cool and 4) there is always parking. To elaborate, there are only 3-4 movies playing at a time, often some independent or foreign movies I would otherwise not have heard about. Their value, if you want to be business like, is in their curation. If I want to see a movie, I can drive to the Tower and know something good is playing. The parking lot is huge, you dont have to peruse the sidewalks or use a lot. Its unique, has personality, I just always leave there feeling good.

The tower is a sacramento treasure. Beautiful art deco interior, with a palatial main room with a large screen and two side rooms with smaller screens a third of the size; playing a variety of independent, limited release, and foreign movies. students get in for 6$ with a current ID card any time of any day. Support independent cinema, almost any movie you see at the tower will be at least quite good. The seats arent brand new, some reviews complain about them but I think they are fairly comfortable, definitely not a reason to not go to the tower. The tower cafe next door is lovely and the food is in large portions and delicious.

A beautiful architectural example of late 1930s Art Deco design. My wife and I recently had our first experience at this historic theatre. We had booked tickets online for a presentation of National Theater Live, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard to be exact. We were pleasantly surprised by the theatre when we arrived. All of the staff was friendly and looked like they enjoyed their jobs. The southernmost of the three theaters we were in was clean and well maintained for its age. I look forward to visiting this theatre again.

I lived in SF for 10 years and injoyed a venue of amazing independent movie houses. When I moved to Sac a few years ago I was thrilled to find such a theatre as Tower. The establishement has flair. The staff actually seem to care about where they work and are genuinely interested in movies of all sorts. The popcorn is tasty and they offer a variety of tasty chocolates including organic options-much appreciated. In fact my husband and I are headed there now, but first well enjoy dinner next door at Tower Cafe.

I love the location & idea of Tower....Sacramento needs a place like this for documentaries and foreign films. However, someone needs to put some serious thought into refurbishing and cleaning the place. In August there was no air condiioning turned on. The poor acoustics in the small theater renders the dialogue incomprehensible. The seats are old, lumpy and often broken. There is a wonderful selection of movies and the location is ideal. This could be a gem, if the theatre were kept up better.

This is top 5 date night place for me and my wife. It is super old school and plays THE BEST independent movies in the area. You could literally see anything they are playing and you would not be disappointed. Even though this place is vintage, the seats are in good shape and the screens and sound are updated and good quality. Very good and basic snack bar. The parking lot is a little sketchy, but weve never had an issue. They usually have security walking the area.

The theater itself is awesome. My complaint was that the show times reported to fandango did not match the actual show times. We showed up early only to find out we were ten min late. I dont know if the theater is responsible for giving fandango the correct times or if its fandangos mistake. I think this could be avoided if the Tower theater had their own website listing their show times. I know I would use the theaters website over fandango if they had one.

Nice neighborhood atmosphere in a historic building, One Large screen and two smallish ones. Often the one with best cinematography is not the one on the big screen. Worst popcorn ever (sneak in your own) completely stale. Usually good movies here and dining options before or after are close by . The Tower Cafe has lovely decor and food is ok . Super desserts.
