I have never ever written a bad review about a business before and I am not one to complain about much, but I just have to share about how I was treated today at Roadhouse Cinemas because it was that bad. First of all Id like to say that I worked for Grand Cinemas movie theater for 11 years as a manager and even for a while in marketing. They had three theaters at one point and I worked for all three at one time or another. I considered myself to be really good in customer service and even got some awards for it. I think you can let people know of policies in a respectful way. Without the customer there is no business right? Also I have always treated people in the service industry with respect and extra kindness because I know how it feels to work with rude customers. Not fun. So lets all just be kind to one another right? Apparently not. I took my son to see Beauty and the Beast today with my mom. This would have been our third time seeing the movie there since it came out. Online it says 6-12 is the age for kids. Now my son is younger than that so I always call and ask before I buy the tickets to make sure its still ok since its not posted. The box office cashier says no problem. I believe this girls name was Mel. When I got to the theater I was told (funnily enough by Mel) that the policy was 6-12 and the first show is ok if they are under 6. Well then why have Cooper and I seen several movies there at Roadhouse?!? The first time we saw Beauty and the Beast it was the third show of the morning. We saw the second show of the Lego Batman movie. Anyway Mel says "she will just make sure with the manager since I was told it would be ok"...Chuy the mananger comes down very annoyed already and tells me no. He basically makes it sound like I am lying that I have been there with Cooper before and that I called to confirm it was ok. I felt humiliated. Cooper was crying and I bought him a popcorn. The girl in the concession made me wait for what felt like forever because they were all so annoyed with the fact that I came there with my son and told the manager that I was upset because we were told it was ok and no one has ever turned us away before. I left there in tears. I have never been treated like that. I would NEVER have gotten his hopes up and taken him there if they said no when I called. Or even if they said Im not sure. I think the correct thing to have done would have been to inform me of what the actual policy is (because the manager said no kids under 6. Basically not even for the first show) and to have let me see the movie with my son and mom since I already purchased tickets and was there. It was their error to tell me it was ok. However I was treated like a liar instead and made to feel horrible. Ugh I loved this theater too. Sometimes it just takes one bad experience to make you not want to go there again. Be careful when you take your kids under 6 there. You never know I guess. Some let you in and some dont. Their box office cashiers dont even seem to know what the policy really is.

I love this theater. The screen is huge and the recliners are comfortable. The room is often a little chilly but I love that. I usually bring in a shawl that doubles as a blanket. The reclining chairs are the most comfortable chairs that youll ever sit in and date night becomes extra special when you can cuddle up to your date in a nice laid back way. The menu lights dont bother me at all and they arent all that bright but I can see why some people find them distracting. Unlimited refills on soda and popcorn are wonderful especially when sharing and the popcorn is delicious. I usually get either the original or cheddar and they even give me a bag to go. Theyes serve Gelato that is so good its to die for and I always get there about half an hour early so that I have time to figure out what to eat. The burgers are okay. I really enjoy the fries and chicken tenders and I am absolutely in love with the pretzel with cheese. If youre on a date i suggest the road trip for two because theres a variety of food to try. The service itself is fairly hit or miss. Ive had awful experiences and fantastic ones. I like the fact that in general the audience is more mature and quiet than at the regular theater. I also enjoy the fact that they sometimes play old favorites that churn up nostalgia. This is definitely my favorite theater in tucson and I will continue to go to roadhouse. Its great for a night out with the parents after a long day of work and especially on date night with that special someone.

Wife and I have been to the Roadhouse Cinemas a half a dozen times with and without our two teenage daughters and it is indeed our favorite place to see a film. Loves the recliners! Food and drink delivered to your seat! Decent local and craft brews. All you can eat bowls of popcorn is pretty awesome. Menu is so-so and food quality is pretty typical bar food. We actually feel that the eating experience for many of the items can be a distraction to the movie experience, so we will either eat before or just munch on popcorn. Food service can be extremely slow in a full theater if yours is not one of the first orders in. Agree with the other comments about lighting under the trays, and have had a bad experience with the online order system double charging us- and the only way to get refunded is to physically show proof that the charge was taken from your account- even then, they wont refund the service charge unless you demand that they do. The concept is fabulous, and I believe that the Tucson metro area could support some competition in another theater of the sort- or two. Perhaps this would drive improvements to the menu and user experience that keep Roadhouse from really being a 5-star experience.

Now THIS is how I like to see a movie. I have been to this type of theater before (iPic, Cinepolis) and am ecstatic that we have one in Tucson! Love the westerny feel to this one. You walk in and they have a bar and tables in the lobby area, although I did not pay much attention to what was happening there. After you get your tickets you do have the option of ordering some popcorn and some beverages right there. We did, and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the popcorn tasted - super fresh and not soaked in that yellow oil you see at mainstream movie theaters. The menu is great, and the food is delicious! The theater itself is fantastic, the seats nice and roomy that recline. The servers, even if you dont order anything are super. They make sure you understand how to operate the recliners and call them if you need them (and how the tab works) Bathrooms, nice and clean and easily accessible to the theater. I am totally coming back here, and often.
