Got a Groupon for a 90 minute 8-person Duffy rental for just under $60 to take a group of 5 people out for a morning cruise. When I arrived, I realized it wasnt the same place I usually get Duffy rentals at as most of the boat rental places around here have similar names. The Groupon required reservations to be made 72 hours in advanced. Oops! I didnt read all the details as this was a last minute thing. The building was kinda hard to find as its located on the side of the building facing the water which required you to walk around the building. Anyway, quick tip: Park at the lot just before the lot for this place when traveling SW on PCH (3101 PCH) for Mariners Mile/Hornblower Cruises. Its $5 parking all day with the attendant. So... not being able to use the Groupon, I was offered a larger Duffy for $150 for 90 minutes and there was no more availability for the 8-person Duffy for the day. It would have been cool if they let me use the Groupon credit towards this rental seeing as it was a Monday and plenty boats available, but nope. Oh well... F it. I rent the larger Duffy. They offered a bluetooth speaker at an additional charge, but I declined. The people were cool and all but the boats werent maintained very well. The hard plastic "windows" were deteriorating and one was actually broken off at one corner. There was a small fridge at the bow, but it was not functional along with the radio. I give this place 3 stars in large part due to the location in addition to the condition of the boat. It is located at the northwest corner of the harbor which makes it about a 90 minute round trip to the ferry and back going around Lido Isle. Its not much of a cruise... Id recommend going to Balboa Boat Rentals which has a little kiosk right next to the ferry near Newport Landing as they have better rates and working radios.

I WOULD GIVE THEM -5 STARS IF POSSIBLE. STAY AWAY... this is the most unscrupulous of all the companies you can rent from in Newport Beach. They routinely refuse to honor the groupons and so i brought it in expired and asked to use the face value. They claim all the boats are reserved if you have the groupon, but if you walk up at full price... boats are available. I handed the guy my phone and when he came back from the managers office they had pushed redeem. They redeemed the groupon but refused to give me the credit unless i paid more than the price at which i was reserved. Essentially THEY STOLE the face value. I protested and their answer was they have the right to refuse service. I was there with my family so i went ahead anyway so as not to disappoint my family. We got on the boat. They ARE JUNK. THe boat barely ran, only had the one speed because the agent said it was overheating. The interior of the boat was in really bad shape. THIS COMPANY IS A RIPOFF AND THEY HAVE GARBAGE EQUIPMENT. STAY AWAY!!!! I will NEVER come back here again and THERE ARE SEVERAL BETTER rental companies in Newport Beach that I will try next time. I saw them on the harbor with other boats in good condition. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE GONE!!! PROTECT YOUR MONEY AND DO BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

Made a reservation for a 2 hour duffy boat ride for myself and my date for 8/4/2017 but the lady friend had an issue at work where we had to push the reservation... I called back in in 90 mins or less to try avoid the dreaded no cancellation policy .... I spoke to the phone rep and was not successful... I requested to the phone rep to speak to the Manager ... I received a phone call in 10-15 mins and she was very studious and adamant about policies and upholding the letter of them... without any human aspect as to what if my dog died and it was my last $100 to pay for the funeral ... they didnt care... I would say to divert over to Duffy Rentals where you dont get up sale and they have plenty of boats... Sorry guys I will not be using this magical credit you speak about... BUYER BEWARE !!

I bought a travelzoo that gave me and the BF 3 hours on a tandem kayak. We brought our own lunch (they have a pack lunch available for purchase) and they strapped our lunch bag to the kayak for us. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They held onto all our electronics in case we tipped over (which we did, lol, and we still fight over whos fault it was). We went around Balboa Island and looked at all the pretty houses along the shore. We saw a secluded beach area, so we decided to dock there and have our lunch. It was lovely and we saw a group of people trying out some hydro jetpacks right next to us. Definitely not something you see everyday. 3 hours seems like a long time but it went by super fast and was so much fun.

WARNING!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAN TO USE A GROUP ON! This company is an absolute rip off. They make it a habit of not "having any boats" available for weeks in advance! At that point your special expires and your face value wont be honored. In attempting to settle a problem Dorothy, the manager, first response was they have the right to refuse service. Horrible customer service and manager! After paying full price we were again disappointed. The boats are old, seats are torn and extremely slow. There are many other companies renting Duffy boats!!! Dont waste your money on this one!

Just tried to make a reservation using a groupon and was told that they would allow it without 72 hours notice. I asked if they were booked full (for a Monday night) and she said no. So, they just dont want to honor the Groupon voucher without 3 days notice?? Thats absolutely insane. Ive rented 2 times from them before and rented paddleboards. I cant believe that they would allow for such terrible customer service. Not to mention the representative hung up on me after I asked nicely for further explanation.

Shady operation. Purchased a Groupon for this place and it is a full bait-and-switch. The idea is simple. If you have an inventory of 10 boats, only allow 2 of them to be used for the Groupon. In other words, things are booked 6+ months out. They will happily upgrade your Groupon to a normal "one" at their normal cost of $135 or something like that per hour. STAY AWAY from this place. Not a good deal, especially if you purchased the Groupon.

We rented a few paddle boards here over the weekend. We rented the boards for $20 for 2 hours. We didnt have any coupon, just asked the guys there for it (talk with them face to face, didnt call in). We ended up using the boards for more than 2.5 hours, and lost 1 of their paddles, but they didnt charge us for the extra or the paddle. The process was easy, just come in to pay, get your board and get paddling. The guys there are very laid back.
