I cant remember the last time I experienced customer service even half as bad as I had at Big Surf. My wife, two little boys and I went knowing we only had a couple of hours, but thought wed make the most of it since the summer season is coming to a close. About 15 minutes after we got there, we were told a quarter of the parks slides would be closed for filming. I went to the general managers office to register a complaint and was told by one of the leads that a sign was posted at the entry so I have no reason to complain. To be fair, a sign was posted, but it said nothing about closing any slides for filming...only that patrons likenesses may be used in the film. I asked the gentleman why he was being so condescending about a simple complaint and he proceeded to get more abusive. I asked to speak to the manager and two other men emerged. One identified himself as the General Manager, Bob Pena, and proceeded to treat me the same way the previous person had. Because my six year old son was standing with me, I kept my cool and reminded them I was just there to register a complaint, thats all. To which, Mr. Pena asked if I had been drinking because my eyes were red. For the record, I do not drink and certainly had not been drinking that day. At this point I was stunned more than anything. I asked if this was how they handled all their complaints and was promptly removed from the office and told the police would be called for disorderly conduct. Normally, I would be content to assume some responsibility if my actions warranted that type of response, but that just wasnt the case in this instance. I was speechless more than anything. The managements actions were downright hostile. If I owned that park, I would want to know this happened. If I was going for the first time, I would want to know what to expect. Instances of poor service happen ... this is the first time Ive ever posted about it when Ive been on the receiving end. You should be able to expect better of leadership at a business of that size. My recommendation is to steer clear at all costs - its just not worth the abuse.

I have never written a review but am compelled to write this for several reasons. Yesterday Sunday May 31 I took my entire family to Big Surf for a birthday party. We purchased 16 tickets at the water park. Upon arrival on the front was a sign that the park had 5 slides down for maintenance. Wow we thought what did the park do all winter to have 5 of there 15 slides down. That was frustrating but then when we got into the wave pool there were hundreds of bees in the water floating. When we asked the staff about this we were given no explanation. One of the girls in our party is deathly allergic to the bees and could not get into the water. The condition of wave pool floor was also terrible one little boy not in our group had his back cut open by the surface of the pool floor. The overall condition of the facility was poor and very upsetting. You can rent a raft for $7.00 but if you only have an hour left to swim and rent a raft you pay the same amount. All of this was very upsetting but what came next was the worst part. I called Big Surf today to talk with a manager about my experience. I got Joe the facility manager after completing my concerns he began to laugh at me. I am in customer service and absolutely was floored that he was a manager. He told me the bees were just a problem they deal with and that I should have gotten on line to see the post about the slides being down on there busiest weekend. That when we saw the sign posted right out front we could have opted to use our tickets another weekend. Really I was going to cancel the birthday party at the door. There was no customer service and he would not even allow our family to come back to the park another weekend for the horrible experience we had. I advise anyone wanted to go to a water park go to Sun Splash or Wet and Wild and stay away from Big Surf the facility is run down and the management is horrible.

My family and I had our first (probably our last time there) visit to Big Surf Waterpark. The waterpark has many grassy areas to hang out and free water cups. Maintenance and sanitary conditions need improvement. I got a bad rash on both of my elbows (not sure why?). I’ve been taking medication to relief the symptoms. We were very disappointed that they closed the “wave pool” for surfers only at 5pm, and there was no sign saying that the wave pool was closed for the public. Knowing that the park closes at 6pm, we decided to go to the water slides with our inner tubes and hang out a little bit longer. It was 5:15pm and we noticed a few life guards picking up lawn chairs, and other inflatable devices and bringing back to storage them. We thought that it was weird, since there were a lot of people still hanging out and enjoying their time with their families. We picked up a few inner tubes to use on the water slides a few more times, but to our disappointment, we weren’t even able to get down the slides. We were already up on the top of the water slides area with our inner tubes, when the life guard heard a whistle and said to the kids who were in front of the family who were waiting just like us, to exit the area and return the inner tubes downstairs. We were shocked that they literally closed the slide without any notice! There were about 12-15 people waiting to go down the water slides. It was only 5:30pm. We walked down the stairs very disappointed! The life guards were cleaning everything up! They decided that it was time to go, and they asked everyone to stop using the water slides. It was terrible! They should have allowed at the least the people that were already waiting on line to use the water slides, then, close the area. We were not very impressed with their customer service. We would go to Golfland Sunsplash Waterpark next time instead!

We got a ticket though GROUPON and that should have been a good clue. The park is old and in need of renovations. The kids had a fun time nonetheless, its water and they did like the waves, however I was ripped off by Big Surf. I sent my teen to put some things in a locker. The charge for the locker was $7.00. My son deposited a $20.00 bill and the machine did not give him any change. I went to see what had happened and in small print at the bottom of where you pay it says you must use exact change. First the signs should be by where you deposited the money and not at the bottom. 2nd I want to know how many people have $7.00, I mean I want to say that lots of people will have $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00 but $7.00 really??. 3rd, I know I am probably not the first person that has this issue and I am sure that lots of other parents and kids have been ripped off by the same oversight. I addressed the manager of Big Surf and he gave me the number for Tiburon Locker Company. He basically said that he had nothing to do with the Lockers. I was dumbfounded Really?? Really?? you allow a third party put their lockers in your premises and allow them to cheat people?? and then you say you have nothing to do with it??? This little trip and adventure basically ended costing more than the price of the GROUPON. It was really not worth it.
