I was going to visit this hiking trail BUT after reading the reviews & the comments left by the employees in response to them left me in utter disgust! I have never seen a place of business & yes this would be considered a business if money is being charged to enter, where any of the employees speaks to customers in such foul ways let alone to post their malicious responses back to reviews on the website knowing its public for everyone to see. Not only that but to see that a customer left a review saying that an employee named VIRGINIA is the type of person to lock the gate on people who are still hiking & leave & would allow for them to get criminally charged for trespassing on private property, & then to see that someone from this business wrote in response only to say thank you for their comment as if agreeing with the individual.. like WOW that just astounded me. Incase you havent realized its VERY easy to get lost on a hike especially if your new to it & dont know your way around maps, trails, compasses etc.. so if people are not to make it back to the front by the time its ready to close that should by the VERY LEAST concern ANY employee for anyones well being! Thats just ridiculous! And then to see other responses of employees writing back to people who didnt have a good time or left a negative review to say stuff like "well if you didnt like it maybe you should try a winter trail instead next time!" Or a person saying they didnt like all the bugs, and someone replied back saying "BUGS?!" Yes bugs for the wildlife to eat & live off of right?! " like Im sorry but if you work here your job is to ensure that EVERYONE has a good time walking in & making the place presentable to new comers. You dont mouth off to people in the comments, this is all for public viewing and it makes you ALL look bad. You have lost a new customer thanks to your distastefulness towards your customers on your page/reviews & who hasnt even had the opportunity to go see this place in person, and I hope anyone else takes their business to other trails as Ive seen plenty who are just as eager to receive & teach new customers everyday with no problem.

Hidden gem! Almost makes you feel like youre not in Texas, much less in the city... Unfortunately certain groups of people dont share the same "dont tread on me" and respect for the limited natural resources that we have here! Overall a really beautiful place thanks to a group effort of LLELA staff, diligent visits by Texas game wardens and volunteers alike, who spend countless hours cleaning up after those that feel they are above cleaning up after themselves! Great place all in all though, just make sure you contact LLELA and understand their rules! Most importantly however, dont mess with Virginia! Shes a kind soul, but she has no patience for those who dont respect the grounds and you better make sure youre aware of what time they close, as she is only going to honk her car horn so many times to let you know shes locking the front gate on her way out! If you dont heed that warning, well guess what you get... Yup a visit from Lewisville finest, who will cite you for criminal trespassing for being on private property! Dont let that scare you though! Get out doors, explore and have a great time!

For Kayaking disliked due to the kayaking pond they promote "Beaver Pond" is totally dry due to drought. The access to the Elm fork of the Trinity River by the Lake Lewisville dam spillway has a locked gate which they do not open for kayakers therefore making you tote your gear approximately 500 ft by going over the gate. For bird watchers or nature trail hikers I would give it 5 stars. Lots of trails with some port a potties in remote areas. Wide varieties of bird species in abundance. It will take several huge deluges to bring North Texas waterways back to normal levels. $5 to get in and the lady that was working the gate is not very knowledgeable about that facility.

Ive been going to LLELA on a weekly basis for nearly 7 years now and have fallen in love with both the place and the staff who work tirelessly to restore, preserve and share the wonderful flora and fauna of this preserve. Like any wildlife management/restoration project there are rules to protect the main objective as well as allow the general public to experience the results of restoration and preservation efforts. This is not your typical city park. Its a true gem of nature rarely found within any city limits. Thank you LLELA staff and volunteers! I love and admire you all.

This beautiful resource is not a trendy human park. It is for people wanting to see many varieties of animal, plants, etc. in a natural setting. You have to be content with waiting and watching to take bird and animal species. The plants will show up any time and make you happy. There is much to do on this acerage but requires that you look at the LLELA calendar and get involved.

They dont allow dogs at the park. Cant see anywhere on website except now that I look it is small print off to the side. Drove 45 minutes to bring my kids and very well behaved lab here to be turned away at the gate. I have never in my life seen a nature preserve park that doesnt allow dogs.

A good place to go and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Have been hiking a few time including the night hiking tour they give. The spillway area is popular with peoples fishing on the weekends. Overall great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Great place for hiking and fishing! The dam has a lot of fishermen on a regular basis. Hiking through these woods can be really cool, especially alongside the water. There is also a log cabin from the 1800s preserved out here. Come out and see if you can find it!

The LLELA Nature Preserve is the perfect place to engage in the great Texas outdoors. The LLELA calendar on their website offer many activities such as morning and evening hikes, bird banding events, bird watching, book and hike club and more.

Finding the entrance is an act of God that you will spend the greater part of an hour looking for. Entry is $5 to get in and the staff is rude. Dont waste your time, stay indoors or go to a real Park or preserve.

Great variety of trails that exhibit a large amount of biodiversity. Witness bald eagles fly over head, camp out, fish in The Elm Fork Trinity River, and see some great native flowers.
