Break away is the word, To some place where they respect you! They put 53 persons on the boat, it only has poles and space for for 28!. At least that what Ricky told be and captain Mark followed in hand. Many of the elders on the vessel did not fish for they did not want to be crowded or pushed. Their establishment got away with this because every one but my husband and I were senior citizens. My family had been doing business with Breakaway Cruises for over five years. We drove to Portmansfeild from Browmsville, twice because they were so inconsiderate that they failed to call us the night before to tell us that the boat was not going out. Finally took one of there Port Mansfield deep Sea trips and what a nightmare! To start off Ricky the first mate was rude to senior citizens. He said he did not care if no one told them they needed a fishing license and he did not care if and how they got them. It was his boat and no one was commenting but him. One of the elders made a comment and Ricky chewed him up. The senior got emotional and started to cry! I thought the man was going to have a heart attack the way he was going back and forth with Ricky! The word he used was "they" and he is not responsible for "they" referencing to the the scheduling sales personnel. If "they told you then it is "their" problem not mine!" Ricky said. I wrote and gave the cruise establishment the 1-800 number for Texas Parks and Wildlife where you could buy a code for fishing with a Drivers License and credit card. I was later informed that I was not allowed on the boat because I was helping elderly persons fish and that was not my job. But they were not doing their jobs either, the captain Mark was too busy on the phone to dehook the passengers fish, and when I did it for a passenger Ricky cursed me out. My husband was also cursed by Ricky because he was forced to fish at the front of the boat were the anchor was, there is not rail but a chain there to hold you back, it is not safe. The owner later called "Brad". And to cover everything said we are not allowed on Rickys boat. We had been comped three days earlier. You do not catch anything but whiting on the Bay trips and maybe a stay stingray. No black drum or other fish, They do not let know you if your trip is canceled even though you must travel two and half hours to get there with less than three hours of fishing. Their equipment sucks too. But I am not a hypocript, the eco tour is wonderful! But in a "clamshell" LOL! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Captain Murphys and Osphrey are best! Their website is not always accurate with prices, many times youll catch a special. Be fishing and be blessed...

I did the Deep Sea fishing trip We spent over 2 hours riding out to the fishing spot. Once we got there, the deckhands say "Ok, drop lines". They did not come around telling us what to do, how to bait a hook, how to use the rod a reel. Fortunately I have been fishing before and knew what to do, but others around me did not. We then sat in a spot for over an hour catching maybe 5 fish with 26+ lines in the water. Typically, a captain will move spots if they are not biting. They then brought out the "good" bait wich was chopped up mackeral or something... this helped a little but we still barely saw fish. An employee brought his girlfriend onboard for this trip and let her use some sort of lure I have never seen with a lon winding foil-like chord... she caught 2 very large king fish and a shark. The crew gave her full attention while my friend and I stood on the side of the boat staring at the water from not getting even 1 bite! At no point did the crew come over with suggestions or concern. I get it... you dont always catch something. That is fine when the crew at least tries hard for you to be on some fish. This company, did not try... We then packed up and headed home... 2 hours LATE! Most of the overtime spent was used to let the employees girlfriend catch these great fish. They talk a lot about catching sharks.. but THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PERMITS TO LET YOU KEEP ONE! On the ride back, the first mate had the nerve to come shove a tip jar in my face and yell out "would you like to tip us sir, it is how we make our living!?" I said no and he yelled "Have a good one" so everyone could hear. I can understand if I was to not tip had they done ANYTHING they should have. 2 of them even claimed they were just ready to get home because they have been working all week...this was while we were fishing! It took a lot for me to hold my tongue in this situation. So I spent $50 on a boring boat ride, $11 on a worthless fishing pass, and 7.5 hours of boredom on a slow boat with some fat lady barfing all over the place. My advice: Spend the extra on a charter boat that does not try to maximize occupancy in the 40+ range, and have a good day fishing and drinking beer with a good crew and captain.

Dont do it!!!!!!! DO NOT USE BREAKAWAY CRUISES!!!!!!!!1 We used Breakaway Cruises in 2010 and had a fantastic time. We decided to go back to them this past weekend (March 2011) and were in for the shock of our lives. We wanted to parasail as well as Jet Ski. We had an appointment set for 11AM parasailing - turns out it was too windy to go out, and they called us to reschedule for 3PM - Needless to say, no one ever notified us that we would not be able to parasail all weekend because of the wind. No forewarning to allow us to plan our day better. FURTHER, we paid for jet skiing - waverunners. We paid via credit card and we were scheduled for 1PM Jetskiing. We waited for 45 minutes for the jet skiis to arrive. When they finally arrived, we were informed that two were broken and our group couldnt go out. However, they indicated someone would be going to brownsville to get parts and we would be in line to jetski at 4PM. 4PM comes around - NOTHING. We ask for a credit and the lady who took our funds the first time indicates that she is not authorized to give credits and we have to wait for the owner. We had spent hours waiting for decided to head for the beach, but asked for her to have the owner call us. NO call. On Sunday, in frustration, we drove back there, found the owner and asked for our credit. He had the jetski guide give us the credit but in an "offline" mode. This meant that they gave us a receipt of credit, but didnt actually give us the credit. 4 days after the credit, I called my bank to file for fraud as our refunds were not actually credited. What a disappointment. If we had used a different company, we would have been able to jetski and parasail. PLEASE, DO NOT USE BREAKAWAY CRUISES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was excited that I could book everything online. It was convenient for us to plan our day out in ahead. I had booked the early bird for Dolphin Eco-Tour which was great ;) and for the evening I booked the Bay Fishing but they never called to notify us the bay fishing was cancelled. I understand things happen and it was only us 2 that had signed up, but at least have the common courtesy to call. We left early from the beach to grab something to eat and make it to the dock on time. When we checked in they said "someone was suppose to call us, but I goes no one did". A week later, I still havent received my refund. Ive called ZOZI who does there online payments and they never answer, left multiple messages with no success. Called Breakaway cruises and they keep telling me the manager will call me back, still havent heard from anybody there either. Didnt know it was so hard to get a refund! Another note for online booking, call breakaway so you make sure theyve received your reservation and secure a spot. When we arrived they had no roster of us booking online. Honestly, this could have been avoided. We had an amazing time on the eco/dolphin tour and the crew on board was awesome. They made sure everyone had a good time. We were excited to do the bay fishing especially since it was going to be our first time. It wouldve gave them a 5 star but the lack of communication, left me disappointed.
