My review of this place probably wouldve been better had the service not been subpar. I wasnt particularly thrilled that as soon as we drove in we realized the parking lot was pretty much valet only, so we had to drive around a bit until we realized there was really no where else to park and succumbed to it, but I quickly got over that. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out, and we said "inside" thinking it would be cooler but there was no AC. This fact in and of itself wouldve maybe been ok if had there been some large fans or a breeze, but there wasnt inside (only outside) and so it was just sticky and hot. We ordered the deviled eggs for an appetizer and they were surprisingly really good, I recommend them. My husband got the Rustic burger which was delicious, and I got the veggie burger and cucumber and avocado salad. Ive had plenty of veggie burgers, but this one was so dry and chalky that I couldnt even eat it. I ate maybe 1/4 of it (cut it in half, took off one of the patties and ate a side of one half) and just couldnt eat the rest. The cucumber salad wouldve been pretty good if the jicama didnt have whatever really hot seasoning was on it, it was overpowering (and I like spicy things). The problem came when I told our waiter that my burger was way too dry to eat - he asked if he could get some ketchup to help it, I responded that it wouldnt help that much, and he kindve laughed, shrugged, and walked off. We only saw him a handful of times. Never asked if he could get me anything else, and charged me full price for a meal I didnt even eat. And this was supposed to be my birthday dinner:( Luckily my husband shared a lot of his. Im not sure if well ever come back unfortunately. (& just an FYI - Ive never written a bad review on anything).

The physical building and layout is cool, and a great idea. The food is worthy of more stars. Ive never had worse service at a restaurant in my entire life though. The servers walk around looking angry...and Im guessing if they look happy theyre new. We had 8 in our party on a Friday night and sat outside. A cool outdoor seating area for sure. The girl who brought us our menus wasnt our server, the girl serving the table next to us didnt want to be our server, and the guy who came to take our initial orders disappeared. It took 40 minutes to get water. When we asked the server at the next table for something she sort of muttered under her breath that shed let our server know. Our orders were hit or miss, and I actually never got my dinner. It took them 3 hours to successfully forget my dinner. One might ask "why didnt you track down your server?" We couldnt find the girl who ultimately became our server. She told me she was sorry for the kitchen not bringing out my order. I didnt order it from the kitchen... Theyre not my server. Not much more help from the manager, but not surprising, because the followers will act like their leader so it was easy to tell from the servers behaviorhow the managers would respond as well. Lots of passing the buck with this team. They need a consultant to come do leadership and team training for sure. Maybe you had a different experience, but Im seeing a trend in the reviews. Wheres the owner to fix this?

Great location, and a cool-looking place. Loved the huge backyard, and was very pleased with the selection of draft beers. The menu had a wide variety of interesting choices, and mine was very good (I had the cold queso as an appetizer, and quail for dinner.) Service, on the other hand, was very poor. It started out fine...our initial drink order was taken and delivered quickly, although my beer (served in my least favorite beer vessel, a schooner) came out at almost room temperature. Oh well...its beer. Ill drink it. My next beer order didnt arrive until I had to go inside and ask our waiter if it was on its way. Nothing like sitting empty (water glass included) on a warm summer night with friends for over 20 minutes. I ordered my 3rd beer when I was halfway finished with my 2nd, in hopes of avoiding sitting empty, but my drink never arrived; I ended up having to go inside to order one from the bartender. And this was on a calm Monday night. As our night wound down, we ended up having to flag down a waiter from another station to bring our check. We had all been sitting with empties and dirty plates for quite some time, with a waiter that HAD to be taking a break somewhere. Location, decor, food, and beverage are all well and good, but a night can be highjacked with slow, inattentive service.

Absolutely my favorite place in all of Dallas. I recently moved to Big D from Miami and have been looking all over the place for a good location to hang out on Friday afternoons and to get good food during weekdays, needles to say I definitely found it at The Rustic. The staff is phenomenally well trained especially for such a young restaurant and while it can get crowded (read VERY crowded) the staff is almost always on-point with making sure everyone has what they need. The food is also phenomenal since it doesnt rely on over-seasoning their dishes in order to mask lower quality ingredients. Everything is cooked to perfection and seasoning only serves to highlight the wood fire taste. Drinks can be a little on the pricey side but thats to be expected of a popular locale. In order to counteract the over-paying for drinks blues I highly recommend you stick with beer as the portions are generous and the selection is among the best in Dallas proper, including a fantastic list of local TX brews. Its also one of the few locations in the downtown/uptown/village area that has a personal favorite Harpoon UFO White. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, especially if you go during the week (m-th) to avoid the big weekend crowds.

Eh; I want to like this place so much. The atmosphere is amazing however a lot of the staff have an attitude problem. Ive noticed it on several occasions from several different members of the staff. Beyond that on our last visit it took 70 minutes for us to get a waitress to acknowledge us. We sat outside and she had a section of maybe 6 tables. 3 parties were sitting at our table all begging for her to notice our attempts to make eye contact. Oddly enough she was super sweet and the nicest person to wait on us there but she just didnt seem to be all that attentive. They also got an order wrong 3 times for one of the other parties sitting at the communal table (I think it was the kitchens fault). By the end of the night everyone at the table became friends as we talked about how poor the service had been. When a new party joined the table we warned them of the hour wait just to get a menu. I probably wont be back only because it seems to be such a production and I just dont feel welcomed there. As soon as I walk in a feel like Im putting them out by asking for a table - are they so popular that they are no longer hungry for business?
