I had been pleased with Northgate overall in the past, but my experience today left a sour taste in my mouth. Google listed them as opening at 10 am, their own website didnt appear to list an opening time, but did list a 10:30 am showing of Hotel Transylvania. I arrived just after 10 to buy tickets in advance for another movie. The place was dark and locked up. I called their number, which was a recording, and also didnt list hours, in the movie time section. I waited until after 10:30, in which time I called the number for managers. It rang continuously for over 4 minutes each time and finally had an automated voice that said "all circuits are busy" and disconnected me. I couldnt even leave a message. I am frustrated and unsure Ill be purchasing tickets from here in the future, but am hopeful that someone can reach out to me and fix this. I dont like standing outside for over 30 minutes and not having a way to confirm hours or reach a person, it is poor customer service. Update- After 2 weeks, still no response about this experience. Unfortunately it seems the customer service is worse than I originally hoped. Star rating brought down to adjust for this. Another update- 3 months and my complaints have not been addressed. Lowered star rating again to accommodate for this. I will not be going to this theater again, as they cant be bothered to respond to customer complaints. I would rather give my money to a business that is appreciative of my patronage.

I planned daughters 7th BDay party on 6/9/12. Suppose to have a party hostess provided by theater, hostess lead party guess to room where their were no hand soap no paper towels for children to wash hands, then hostess disappeared. I had to line children up to go to restroom and wash hands before eating. Hostess never returned had to send parents as well as husband to look for hostess. No help serving children, or making sure guess were ok. Just as the children prepared to go into the theater they were given movie snack packs where they had to pick up from concession counter where other movie goers were in line. there was confusion of who was party guest Hostess refused to pass out 3 more movie snack packs because she made a mistake even-though only 8 party guest received movie snacks. I paid for 3 more out of pocket. The hostess didnt pay attention to who was and was not party guest. Paid for 12 children the day before party. this theater has lack of communication among employees, Deplorable work habits,10 kids showed up. No refund was returned back, and the GM would not honor the employees phone message stating that the parents of the Birthday child has free admission. I left feeling as if I purchased a steak well done that turned out to be raw inside. I would not recommend anyone to have BDay party here.

The staff is always friendly and quick, the theater seats are the best around, the screens are awesome, and the place is generally clean. They have early shows just for kids in the summer and Fri/Sat/Sun they have early movies for those of us who want to skip the crowds. Generally Ill go see a movie here before anywhere else. As they lack an IMAX I have to journey out to South Point or wherever if I wanna see a flick that way. This place would be busy all the time if Northgate Mall itself was a little more updated and glitzy, as this place is like a shiny gem compared to what surrounds it. I think its important to point out though that Northgate gets a bad rap because its near downtown Durham and we used to have a...er...reputation. That was almost two decades ago, get with the times! Durham is awesome. I want to address Brandons (a previous posters) technical complaint real quick even though Im giving the place an amazing rating. No, they dont seem to know how their equipment works all the time. I find that the sound is often too low and asking them to bump it just goes nowhere. They do start movies right on time, but its up to you whether thats a good or bad thing. It says something about the place that Ill still give it five stars despite all that.

Well, I have given Northgate several tries and my last experience was disappointing to say the least. I showed up to an early showing of a movie around 11:00 am and I walked into the theater and saw a few couples standing around waiting but there were no employees around. So I walked the ENTIRE theater looking for someone to help . I walked all the individual theaters to make sure nothing bad happened. so finally after around 30 mins. contacted the police. I also found a schedule laying on the ticket counter with employees phone numbers on it so I called the MGR. After the cops got there and the manager finally showed up and explained that they didnt open until 12pm when online it clearly has movie showings starting at 10:30am. Also the theater was open! Anyway, I was told id have to wait 4 hrs for my movie that I came to see to start and wasnt offered any type of compensation for going through the trouble to contact people. Not even a movie ticket or a drink or a THANK YOU. Rather drive to Carmike or Southpoint despite northgate being literally 5 mins from my home.

I had my son for summer vacation and on our last day together we decided to watch whatever he wanted before going back to his state. As we walked in to theater #8 we almost slipped cause the floor was wet. Then we smelled a foul odor in the air like mildewy. Then I figured out from the humidity that the A.C. was not on. I reported it 2 times from the beginning of the movie and a 3rd time in middle of movie when my lower back of my shirt was wet in the seat. I was not focused on the movie at all and no one fixed the A.C. or ever even laid any caution signs on the wet floor at the entrance. I heard several other ppl complain about the heat on way out. Management should have been standing at the door passing out refunds or free movie tickets while apologizing, but no one did anything. One reason why Chick-fil-A gets so much of my business is because they always immediately correct their mistakes on the spot and I walk out without a sour taste in my mouth and sometimes even happier. Thats a policy that this movie theater should look into as well.

I like this theater. The seats are very comfy. However every time there is always someone talking loud. The last time this man above me answered his cell and talked for about 3 min and after that kept talking loud with his girl. Another time a child was running in the aisle babbling. The man didnt stop the kid so I asked him to speak to his kid. Another time someone had their feet propped up on the back of the seats and didnt move when I wanted to sit there. They moved them when I let them know to move them. So in essence, the people give this theater negative opinions and also the staff. They are very nonchalant when they should be attentive. I am not sure what this theater could do regarding the issues it has. Also when I was watching my movie, I could hear the movie next to ours. Manager, your theater is in a prime location and I understand Northgate is trying to improve its reputation so please pay attention to the negative comments. Im not giving up.
