Updating my review since its been two years. Ive been a longtime patron of this theater (10+ years). I was nervous to say the least when I found out AMC was taking over the Carmike brand. The first few months were pretty good. Nothing really changed. I cannot really say that anymore, however. For starters, the theater is still in good shape and clean. Staff members Ive come in contact with are nice. But I typically go to this theater on Tuesdays since it has ticket and concessions deals for Stubs Members (much like it used to under Carmike). I was planning a trip there one Tuesday a couple weeks ago and discovered that the theater had eliminated all showtimes before 4 p.m. on this day. I thought it was a one-time thing or a glitch with the website I was looking at but it wasnt. Come to find out, the same is happening for every other day except Friday. I contacted AMC Theaters and was told the move was due to "low attendance" at earlier showtimes this time of year and that the change in showtimes would last at least until the end of October. As a person who works evenings and nights, this move makes it impossible for me to go on Tuesdays to take advantage of the deals and see a film at an earlier showtime. Additionally, Ive never known the theater to change showtimes like this in the 10+ years Ive been seeing films here. Its disappointing and has forced me to pick another, competitor theater for my moviegoing experience.

We went this afternoon to see Rogue One at 3:00 pm. We arrived at 2:35 pm. There were no ticket sales at the front, and a posted sign directed us to buy tickets at the concession stand. The lines inside were so long that the line from the concession stand on one side stretched almost to the one on the other side, and it was like that on both sides, at all four lines. It took us 20 minutes to get our tickets. The womens bathroom was not clean, and the commode in my stall would not flush. The movie (well, the previews) started about 10 minutes late. And the first three played with no video, only sound. My husband finally went to tell them, and then they fixed it. The popcorn was fine, though. And they offer unsweet tea to drink, which is awesome. One of the guys at the concession stand mentioned that despite signage to the contrary, they are no longer. Carmike cinema but are now AMC. AMC needs to fix the ticket sales issue. No reason it should take 20 minutes in the afternoon on a weekday!

Came here on 08/05/17 to warch the 4:40 showing of The Dark Tower. The cashier who served us our drink and popcorn was unbelievably rude. My fiance accidentally knocked his brand new empty cup off the counter when he reached for it. The cashier saw this and didnt offer him a new cup so he asked for one. She rolled her eyes so hard that her head tilted back a little. DIDNT EVEN TRY TO HIDE IT! He was so stunned that he had to ask me if I saw it too. We find some seats and sit down but the movie legit doesnt start until after 5pm. A guy had to get up and tell them to start the movie...twice! So when they finally get it going they skipped through all but 2 of the trailers to make up for the time lost. Not coming back here again.

Ive been coming here since it was a Carmike. Initially the switch to AMC was not too noticeable. However, some prices have gone up, some of the screens/projectors have spots on them (small enough to ignore in my experience), and I occasionally find that the service is iffy. On my most recent visit, the cashier seemed very irritated and short with me, and when I asked someone about getting points for my purchase on my amc account, I was told it wasnt really worth it (which is true but to talk me out of it was weird). Still not too bad but some areas could use a little work.

Favorite movie theatre in Durham..its a decent location and never crowded to where you cant find a seat unlike Southpoint plus they charge you more there anyways. Join Carmike Rewards for free items like popcorn and drink just for purchasing previously. Quality of movies are great as well, they have Stimilus Tuesdays where popcorn and drinks are only $2 and movies before 5 are $5 i believe. Staff is awesome...if you havent given this place a try, do so.

I absolutely love the movie theater + it is a privilege to go to one as luxurious as Carmike Cinemas. The staff is VERY friendly + informs me with criticism regarding a movie; the bathrooms are very clean. The theaters (individually) are my most favorite of all places to get away from all of the stress that life in genera; gives me. My only complaint is that I cant stay there watching movies forever...

I remember when this theater was brand new. It does need some renovation but it is a very nice place to go especially if you are taking young children. It is "children friendly" unlike one other movie theater in Durham. I dont go to the later shows so I cant really speak on that but the matinee is a great time to go. Sometimes we are the only ones in the theater.

A good, cheap theater. Facilities arent in the best shape, but the super-discounted late afternoon matinees and the reusable popcorn buckets make the moviegoing experience much more economically feasible. If you are looking for giant/IMAX screens, go to Southpoint. If you are looking for top-tier moviegoing facilities/refreshments, go to Silverspot.

One of the woman had very raunchy attitude, sorry you had to work today hun. Also the popcorn was mediocre, cold, and tasted poorly. The movie theater lights or something were making noise while i was watching a movie. The movie ticket is a good price though. Would not come back, only went because the movie was sold out in southpoint.

I was overcharged for nachos and icee and. Also cheated out of my change ! Besides that the manager had the nerve to act like he didnt believe me and next he had the audacity to try to keep my movie tickets I paid for ! I mean how unprofessional can you be ! This type of behavior makes customers not want to return to this theater !

This is a hidden gem of a cinema in my opinion. It has been a great place to go for opening nights (unlike Southpoint), and it isnt scary to visit at night (unlike Northgate). The quality of the movie-going experience is on par with any other modern cinema, but without the large crowds. Great place for a date night movie.

Their website is confussing and dont try calling to get any information. They dont pick up the phone. Other than that, prices are better than most other theaters that are closer to where we live, and staff is friendly. The theater is clean and pretty confortable. I would recommend going here over some other theaters.

I loved this place before it turned into AMC classic. The menu options was great and had awesome food for a reasonable price. Now......the menu has changed and the food is not all that great but the prices of tickets are awesome. AMC should let them improve their menus but the quality of movies experience is great.
