The Music Hall of Williamsburg is what all small music venues should be like. MHW is like its sister The Bowery Ballroom but better. Unlike most small venues they actually have small bistro style tables with chairs on the level above the floor, left and right sides along with the center balcony. These are on a first come basis so arrive well before the door time to try to get seat(s). I have been to many shows there and I have never seen them restrict this space for VIPs like most other venues do. There is also a large stepped area toward the back of the top floor viewing area allowing standing or sitting on the stairs with a chance to actually see the performers, a novel concept. There are 3 levels/floors each with their own bars. The top level has a lounge area with sofas and chairs and a long sit down bar. The main level has a large lobby that has a merchandise table and a bar. There are wood floors, not concrete in the main room with the stage. This may not seem like a big deal to most, however, go to 3 or 4 standing shows a week like I do and it is. The wood also help dramatically improve the sound. Also in the main stage area are two elevated and railed areas on the left and right side enabling more people to have a better view, once again a novel concept. Downstairs there is yet another bar with bar stools and a large lounge area. The restrooms are on this level along with an ATM and an elevator so you need not hoof it back to your top floor viewing space. You are in Williamsburg so there is a hipster vibe about the place but not an uptight one. I see as many shows as possible at this venue and would select it over almost all the club/hall venues in Manhattan. Go and enjoy.

The Music Hall of Williamsburg is one of those venues that has absolutely nothing special about it, except the sheer volume of raw talent coming through in the form of shows. Ive been here more times than I can remember and honestly every one of those shows was an amazing act, ToKiMONSTA, Run The Jewels, Atoms For Peace, Murs, etc. The sound system is rock solid and there are plenty of great vantage points to catch the show. The space is actually pretty big considering all things, mainly underscored by the inclusion of a balcony level, main floor level, with elevated standing room on the side. More importantly is the basement level (Here is where the genius kicks in). Moving downstairs is the main bar. This is important, as there is a small bar on the ground level. Downstairs youll find copious amounts of space (sweet), the restrooms (even sweeter), and large flat screens streaming the performance upstairs in full HD (super sweet). This encourages people to flow throughout the venue and thwart congestion because, well, downstairs is actually pretty rad and you dont really miss anything when you take a break to go get a drink. Leaving your coveted spot smushed between drunken leaner behind you and the 8ft skyscraper in front. Getting in and out is a breeze and the vibe is nice and chill -- no crazy stampedes for the door when the show is over.

DO NOT GET WILL CALL HERE. I was the first in line for a general admission show, waiting outside for over an hour. This is a review of a show in February and therefore it was cold, so to start things off, the doors opened 10 minutes late. When they did finally let us in, the will call window wasnt open yet, and when it did finally open, they didnt have the list of names for it so we had to wait some more. Somewhere between 50 and a hundred people were let in before we did, so of course the front row was taken already. We did get an apology which is why I gave this two stars instead of one, but there is a serious communication issue here. I felt marginalized. Suggestions to improve venue experience are to have someone come out while we wait with the will call list and tickets so we have them in hand before and can just go inside in order and/or open the will call office a half hour before doors open so those with will call can get their tickets. Also, if the will call window isnt open, dont start letting other people in! There has to be a better way.

The staff here is really unprofessional. I went here for Primal Scream over a week ago. I was on the bands guest list. We missed the first two songs because I had to wait in a line that went all the way past Public Assembly. despite this, there was only one guy checking the list and giving tickets. The band started playing while there was still a huge line out front. Then I ordered drinks downstairs and this b*tchy girl bartender was super slow in serving us and refilling even though there was only a few people at the bar. Then she shorted my friend on a double whiskey (hes tended bar he knows) and I asked her to top it off. She gave me a snippy answer, so asked her if she was having a bad day. So I asked for the bill and didnt tip. Then she went to the bouncers and asked that they flag me and my two friends. Keep in mind I wasnt raving or anything. All I did was ask her for a decent drink. Yeah, avoid this place unless you really, really dig the band.

You sell concert tickets to 16 year olds , dont specify that they need state ID and turn them away day of when they only have high school ids. You then tell them its okay to get someone to send them a photo of their birth certificate as identification and still turn them away after they waited in the cold for hours. Not to mention , Security is rude as all heck. I had a brand new bottle of water , asked them if they wanted it so it wouldnt go to waste , told me to "feed it to the trees", snatched it out of my hand and chucked it into the garbage can. I politely asked the girl checking tickets how I could help my 16 year old friend , she rolled her eyes , gave me an attitude and told me it wasnt her job. Disgustingly rude staff. Doors also opened almost an hour later than time on ticket. Will not be giving them my money ever again . would rate a 0/5 if I could.

Great venue for seeing bands, with a nice size general admission floor as well as raised areas to the sides and a balcony for those who want to avoid the crush on the floor. Bathrooms and bar area are downstairs but the audio from the show is piped in so you can listen and relax down there if you want. My only complaint is they dont provide much information outside the venue or on the website about performance times. I attended a show that listed the event as 8pm, but thats when they opened the doors. First performer came on at 9pm, 2nd at 10pm, and headline act at 11pm, but you wouldnt know that until you actually got inside. Possibly a minor quibble, but it would have been nice if the tickets and website had said "Doors - 8pm".
