Looks like a very nice place... Until you get a look behind the white door that says "employees only! It was open last time I went in there. You wouldnt expect to see what I saw from the other side of the door were it looks like a nice caring environment. What I saw was three huge reticulated pythons in a tiny cage the size for a boa. I saw four boas in a cage for one. And one of them had a huge gash on its head. The cage boas were in looked like they came out of a swamp no bedding not even newspaper which is free 90% of the time. All there was was mud and leaves. There were many more boas in caged the size for a corn snake with nothing they were just laying on bare cold plastic, there were also 2 huge berms in a cage way way to small and they looked like they would be dead the next day. There were many sick snakes most did not even have a source of heat, none of them had clean water bowls or water bowls at all for that manor most had retained sheds some even have old sheds still in their cage an they all looked too skinny. I have made the mistake of purchasing 2 snakes from them. The first one had mites when I got home. And the 2nd was sold to me as a female but was a male, I felt so bad I had to save It he was in a 10 gallon tank and he was a 4 foot boa had retained shed and was skinny. They ABUSE and NEGLECT there animals and obviously just dont care. These people run the most disturbing pet store ever. I cant express the sadness I feel for these poor helpless animals...Please do the world and all the reptiles there a favor and dont shop or even enter this hell hole.

I went here and purchased two gold fish, and they are very healty and grown up by now. When I chose the pet, I was very careful, so I went to a lot of pet stores in Reno, cus I do not want my fish die soon after they arrive my home, and I raise my pets very carefully, like my babies. The fish in this store is in best condition in Reno, as far as I also went to other pet stores like petco, pet sup, and walmart and several others I found on google map. May be the out looking of the store is not very good, but I just went there and buy the fish, so as long as they provide healthy animals, it is still a good place to get a pet. Also, they sell fish bowls at a low price. I bought a 1.5 gallon glass fish bowl for $7, while it should be around $12-15 in walmart. The same as the gold fish, they are cheaper and better quality in health and looking than those in other pet store as well. I am going to visit the store as long as I need sth for my lovely gold fish. Follow up: I went there on Jan 10, 2013, and the seller is very friendly to me. I saw they sell excellent turtles. Even I would not be able to afford them, they still answered all my questions about how to raise the turtles very patiently. Every time I go to the store, they never pushed on me like wanting me to buy all of their pets. The environment condition became better than before, they kept water clean and there is no dead fish in pool, and the golden fishes are still healthy and lovely. This store is worth a good review.

My friend and I went to this store yesterday afternoon looking for a certain fish. Upon entering said store, first impressions was as follows; un-organized, trashy, and un-sanitary. There were hoses running all over the store ( I tripped over several of them). When asked the question of what fish we were looking for, I am assuming the lady was either the manager or the assitant manager, but she did not seem very knowledgeable about what she was talking about with the fish. I called her out on a few things she was telling my friend about said fish she was looking for. The lady was not very happy with me. To add onto this, there was a little dog "humping" a toy on the sales floor and a little girl walking around the store with a very large snake in her hands as if she was the main character from "Carrie". The lady that was helping us was not knowledgeable about the fish let alone what she was doing. The "employees", or lack there of, were not very helpful either. In addition, if any of you consumers out there have bought a few fish from said store...and they have gotten a disease...keep in my mind employees stick there hands directly in the tanks to grab fish or to move them. They do not wash their hands. If I were you, the consumer, I would take my business to a more knowledgeable, professional and friendly establishment and spend my money there then at "Sierra Aquatics".

I went into this store the other day for the first time, as I like to find out for myself about a place due to the pervasive need for hyperbole on the Internet with peoples wacky opinions. We were treated well, the tanks and stock looked better than any chain pet store (algae and decor are not indicators of "dirty") and I tested three employees on various reptile/aquaria knowledge and they passed the test. Tanks are not a "single system" like the big chains, but individual tanks: that means if one fish gets sick, they arent all exposed. Prices are a mix between low, average and expensive, although to their credit, the selection is FAR beyond that of the chains. The store is a little rough around the edges, but if you arent expecting the Monterrey Bay Aquarium with almost-free-prices, support this local store, and it should flourish. On another note, for every pet sold in a big-box chain pet store, half a dozen of their kind died in the process getting them to you. Guaranteed. Like apples at a grocery store, 10 are lost or culled out before you eat one. Local stores rely on local people and breeders bringing them stock. I bet its pretty tough competing with the big box chains, and I give em a pass for even trying.

I visited the store in hopes of learning info before buying a water monitor or possibly even bringing one home I walked in and walked up to the counter I was greeted by an employee named andy I told him my interest and asked if he could help me he said yes I started asking him questions about habitat food and any special things they might need He knew nothing and had to ask several employees before passing me on to someone else and they knew on the spot what i needed i gave the guy the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe he is knew and still learning I then Continued to walk around and look at all thier animals They have a crazy selection I was trying to mind my own buisness but I noticed on several occasions that the employee I had dealt with on the first place was barking out orders to his Co workers telling them to run here and thier while he sat on his butt doing absolutely nothing then I thought no hes been here awhile and is comfortable he was rude to his Co workers and I even heard him talking bad about them My over all exsperience was great and it was a nice store with great employees other than him I just think the Manger should Look at his employees work ethic or have a talk with him
