I remember the days when Joplin had 3 different theater complexes, two different ones located inside Northpark Mall, another one outside the 15th Street Wal Mart, and cheap movies inside the old Sears Plaza on 7th Street. Now, the old Sears Plaza theater was terrible -- the bathrooms stunk, the place was dirty, no air conditioning, but movies were cheap - you got what you paid for is what Im saying. Because you and a date could see a movie for less than $10, it was almost kinda fun. Like a rich family eating dinner in the bad part of the city. It was "exciting." Sadly, there is only one place in Joplin to watch movies today, and its at Regal, and for a family of four it costs you about $60 to see a movie, eat popcorn and drink a couple of Cokes. On top of that, the place is so dirty, a bit smelly, theaters riddled with broken seats, and projectors that dont seem to do a very good job keeping the movies bright enough to watch without squinting, its like I find myself back at the old Sears Plaza complex - but without the savings to the wallet. Its all these reasons why I havent seen a movie in 2 years at Regal Cinemas. Save your money and go to Pittsburg, Kansas instead for a great movie experience. There, they treat you right. Otherwise, wait for the movie to come out on DVD or Netflix.

I have frequently thought about changing this review since this theater came under new management. However, today I once again made the mistake of choosing North Star. Our projector in theater 4 was out of focus the entire movie and even though multiple people repeatedly reported it, the theater staff did nothing to fix it. Theater was freezing cold too. I had a sweater and and a jacket on, with another jacket over my legs and I was still shivering. My review stands. I have been to many theaters throughout the country and the area, but this is the worst one by far. Dirty, smelly, low quality sound, poor service, frequent technical problems, decayed screens, uncomfortable and broken seating, terrible film selection, essentially no special events or showings (this has admittedly improved), and high prices. My wife and I drive 40 minutes out of Joplin just to see movies at a different theater. I am not exaggerating. Theaters wonder why theyre having trouble getting people into seats and theaters like this one are the answer. This theater is run down and poorly cared for. You would be hard pressed to find a worse movie going experience. Avoid it if you can.

I have to agree with Jaimi below that it is the best in Joplin--now that everything else has closed up. During bad weather Tracy is correct you have to wait in line outside of the theater to get your tickets. If you are lucky enough to get there early before the place opens up each day you will find out that the employees park in the row closest to the front doors for their convenience--always a nice barometer of where their focus towards customer service really happens to be. It was the biggest and the best at one time--but now that it is the only it does not appear to worry about much more than changing the posters out front. In two recent attempts to watch a movie here, there were problems with the picture being cut off during the movie and the response to set up the projector correctly (or whatever they needed to do to fix it) were slow in coming. Sorry to say that the lack of service, maintenance and pride have reduced this theater from a great place for a family getaway to one more inclined to encourage us to get away to the new theater in Miami, OK or the ones at the mall in Pittsburg, KS.

Came to this theater because my hubby and I were in the area and the movies we wanted to watch were close in time. The clerk for the ticket office didnt greet us or smile. Then when I went to the concession stand there were several clerks behind the counter yet only one guy was helping customers. I said hi and he just frowned. Then I started to tell him what I wanted and he cut me off and asked cash or card. Then after that I told him I wanted the movie snack deal. He said oh the kid deal. Is that a terrible thing?!? After he was done getting my order he didnt even thank me or say enjoy the show. Wow! The ticket man was nice though and pointed me to my movie. Anyhow I am pretty disappointed with the service received. Also the seats are broken down. Probably wont return to this theater. Not to mention that a matinee costs nearly 10$.

I give it a .1 star. Prices raise at least once or twice a month which is ridiculous. Concessions are way overpriced. The entire seating needs replaced with actual comfy seating like most theaters have. Regal needs to really come to Joplin and evaluate this place. There is absolutely no excuse for the condition and everything that is wrong with this theater. I have contacted on the site as well and have complained before and so far nothing has ever been done about anything since this place was bought out by Regal. Yes the dirt and grime on the screens is also an issue. Hell I just went to go see Wonder woman in 3d at AMC in Springfield with electric leather recliner and it was still cheaper than Regal. They think since Regal is the only theater they can do whatever they want.

Over priced all services, poor up keep facilities. Very rude staff, it seems that they are overconfident of the monopoly they have created. They ran all other theaters our of town then raised the price for a poor experience. I dont want to keep my family from movie experience but I will be only going to the childrens dollar movies in the summer, unless some major issues get fixed. This company is very lacking in the response to all of the complaints filled on here. It is one thing to post a response and another to come to town and investigate in your investments. Serious business management needs to reevaluate the Joplin theater. I am sitting in a theater 13 now with my family and the speakers are not even working correctly!!!!!!

Its not the worst theater Ive ever been to... Its the second worst. Ive tried liking it over and over again but I consistently end up in a broken seat with sticky on my shoes. The place smells terrible. Last time I went there was debris on the screen and it was distracting the entire movie. There was also some sort of overlap on the screens so there was a thin white line going from the top of the screen to the bottom that was also distracting. The worst thing is that they charge twice as much for everything than theaters that are way better. My wife and I happily drive to Springfield to go to the Cinema 16 which consistently provides better quality screenings with happier staff at half the cost.

The setup at this theater is awful!! You have to buy your tickets outside, so if its cold or rainy you get to stand in line outside. Then the concessions are before the ticket taker, so you get to fumble around for your tickets with your hands full of popcorn and soda. The second chance concessions are never open. Many of the seats are broken, especially the ones in the middle of the theater. This is a small gripe, but they dont have Dr. Pepper only Mr. Pibb (yuck). As for Jaimis review...yeah its the biggest and best in Joplin because its the ONLY one....having no competition doesnt make you good. It just means that you can slack because people dont really have any other choice.
