Best movie theater in Minnesota, hand down! We live only a few blocks away and have probably eaten our weight in Riverview popcorn over the past few years... Its unbelievably good. One of the joys of our family life, is walking down on a warm summer night and coming back with a bucket of "take-out" popcorn :) Honestly, we will buy a ticket to a movie weve already seen, just to hang out there! If you dont mind waiting a couple months to see the blockbusters, this place is perfect. Comfy seats, old-school theater feel and awesome, long-time employees running the place. They always host fun events like Z-Fest, Hitchcock Fest, "Oscar nominated shorts" viewings, along with documentary events, hosted by directors and fun midnight 80s movie showings. Cant beat the $3 fee (and $2 matinees!) Kids are always 2 bucks and they only accept cash, but it is well worth a trip to an ATM. We will miss this place SO much when we move to the other side of the city, but we definitely wont stop coming around.

Hands down the best single screen theater in Minnesota, even if the seats are meh. $3 for a movie, $4 for a ton of popcorn. Riverview is a main stay of the Howe neighborhood in Minneapolis. It specializes in second-run movies and does a great job of balancing blockbusters with indies. Its a gorgeous, classic 1950s theater with enthusiastic staff and long lines that move quickly. The only downside of Riverview is their seats arent as comfortable as other theaters. However, even for a curmudgeon such as myself, thats not nearly enough to keep me away. They also run have fun events like sing-alongs, cult classics at midnight, documentaries and always show the oscar-nominated documentary and animated shorts. If you havent been to Riverview yet, shame shame. You wont regret it.

This is NOT your typical theater. It only has one screen and has about 6 showtimes a day. They play movies that have phased out of mainstream theaters but havent come to video yet. BUT. Movies cost you $2 or $3 dollars depending on when you go. Absolutely unbeatable price. Concessions are simple but great and also fairly priced. Theres no where remote that you can get a deal like this. The staff is super friendly and it feels more like a community theater which gives it some comfort value. It has stadium seating and even a curtain draw for when the movie starts. Also, doesnt have dozens of ads for movies before the show. Just a couple that will be coming to the Riverview soon. Best movie theater for the price AND your time.

I love this place. The tickets are cheap. But -- get this -- the place looks great! All of the seats are in perfect condition, and theyre comfortable. There are no holes in the wall or bums sleeping in the back corner. Youre not playing "guess that smell" with your friends, and the floor is completely, 100-percent free of stickiness. In fact, the retro ambiance, the look and feel of the theater is worth the cost of admission on its own. It might be the cleanest, best run movie theater in the Twin Cities. This is absolutely the best deal in the area. My only problem is that I didnt discover this theater sooner. All those missed opportunities to attend ...

Its a great place to see a cheap movie. Tickets are $3. Theres tons of seating. Its a huge movie theater. They have a movie at 5, 7 & 9 ( maybe at 1 & 3, Im not sure). And there are different movies at the different times. Seats are very comfortable and have armrests (with cup holders) that you can put upright if you want to have your sweethearts arm around ya. I am a very tall and I have enough leg room. Popcorn and soda are very reasonably priced also. The air conditioning works really well. It was 85°F outside, and I was a little too chilled by the end of the movie. I could have brought a light weight long sleeved shirt.

I love everything about Riverview Theater. Charging a mere $2-3 per ticket, and offering concessions at incredibly reasonable prices as well, this place is a neighborhood favorite. I am happy to wait for movies to arrive fashionably late at Riverview. Their popcorn is super delicious, and my boyfriend devoured the whole thing before we even sat down inside the theater-- which is HUGE, by the way. Only one screen, but the room is big enough so you probably wont have someone sitting directly in front of you. The staff is great, the snacks are excellent, the price is right, and the theater is pretty neat. Five stars, fo sho.

The theater was fine but the crowd was silly and goofy. We were there Saturday night around 1130 pm to see Jaws but was really turned off by the crowd. Anyone who saw Jaws before, did you think it was funny? Well this crowd did. They were laughing so loud, it made me wonder if they were doing it for attention. One person would do it and then another. They clapped and screamed "yea and woohoo" after each preview like for the movie Aliens and some other movie i dont remember. What was up with that? This made me remember when Minnesota was labelled goofy for trying to be hip and that night I saw it to be true.

Like a trip to yesteryear with up-to-date sound & projection, and the best popcorn ever. Very welcoming atmosphere and attracts a courteous, diverse neighborhood patronage. Family owned and feels safe. Low priced 2nd run (but recent) movies plus special showing events. Its our 1st choice cinema because its such a positive experience. Well wait for a movie to come here rather than see it at a big, impersonal, 1st run cinema w/ fake "butter" on the p-corn. We lived in the neighborhood over 20 years ago and prefer to drive back there for our movie viewing experience rather than go to the giant 20-plex near our home.

My first choice in theaters. This is one classy place, gorgeous retro maintained as it was originally built. The prices are ridiculously affordable and even better, the seats are large and comfortable. You wont find yourself smashed up against the people next to you. Every seat in the top area has an unobstructed view regardless of what type of hat the person in front of you is wearing. If youre a senior, tickets are two bucks. Several different shows per day with minimal runs each. Watch the schedule as movies change frequently. If you dont have to see a movie the moment its released, this is the place to go.

I just love everything about this theater. Its vintage and historic. Tickets are cheap. Its a great member of the community. Snacks are affordable and delicious. The seats are (for the most part) comfortable and the screen and sound system very good. And its in my neck of the woods (if not in my neighborhood) and going there always makes me feel like I"m part of a community gathering. Kudos to the folks running this place. The Riverview is part of what makes me crazy happy to be in South Minneapolis.

Its our main date-night place. A nice throwback to the era of single screen movie palaces, in stark contrast to the multiple mop-closets with screens that most multiplexes have now. Great popcorn that doesnt break the bank, and only $3 for a movie. Ive been going there for many years, and the owner has always taken pride in it. You can often find him working behind the counter, slinging popcorn and soda with the teens. He loves movies and loves the place, and his customers. Everyone wins.
