We seriously have the most amazing assortment of really different and cool animals at the Jackson Zoo. My girlfriend and I cant get enough of the gibbons, I seriously wish I could take them both home with me. The orangutans and bears and so cute, giraffes are majestic (even when they pee) and the tigers have such an awesome presence. The hoofstock and various monkeys really never get old. They are also working on a long-term plan to upgrade the facilities and add more animals, which will be great. I really, really love the Jackson Zoo. I almost changed my major to biology on a whim because of it... I have to say, avoid the food here, and usually the people at the front gate dont feel extremely friendly all of the time, but no one has ever been rude to me, and at the end of the day Im there for the animals so I could care less about it. Also, I think it could help a lot if they played some subtle music in the park, as a way to suck people further into the experience. Just a thought.

We had a great day. The zoo was clean and maintained. The zoo is very historic at nearly 100 years old. It has some age issues but the zoo is trying to address these needs and it takes money and patience. I did notice lots of improvements and the zoo was fairly busy. It is extremely important to support this zoo for our state and future generations. I honestly enjoyed the day at the Jackson Zoo and I recommend a trip to the only accredited zoo in the state of Mississippi. If you are a Mississippian and you are not happy with the progression of our zoo. The zoo has ways of donating directly on their website. Plus you can get specialty car tags to help support needs for the zoo. I hope you will go and enjoy tla day and notice all the improvements happening. The zoo is coming back!

We took our one year old son on his birthday, Jan. 31. We went during the middle of the day on Tuesday so it wasnt really crowded which was nice. The animals are all very easy to see and the cages are kept fairly clean. It is small and in a bad location, but once you get inside its like youre somewhere else. The best attraction is a little "tunnel" where you walk through and can see the local fish, otters, and beavers swimming through the water. It really needs a lot of cleaning though, that would make a big difference in the apperance. Overall we had a good time and my son enjoyed the animals that would actually move around, but it does need a lot of work.

I went to Jackson zoo despite reading all of the negative comments below. I was shocked to find a perfectly decent zoo. Better than decent. Sure the animals were in smaller enclosures, but by no means cruelly small. And the scale of the enclosures meant you could actually get a good view of the animals. At Jackson youre sometimes only yards from the wildlife. I sat for minutes with only a plexiglass window separating me from two tigers. The zoo is smaller but you will leave having gotten a great look at the animals Especially the many large cats that are inevitably distant/hidden at larger zoos. Its not at all the morbid hellscape described below. (

This zoo was a wonderful experience. I felt pretty uncomfortable turning off the interstate and driving through the absolute ghetto to get there, but once we got to the zoo itself I felt safe and welcomed. The personal were all warm and professional, from the gate attendants, to animal workers, to the maintenance staff. The animal exhibits seemed much closer than at other zoos, and very visitor friendly. I also found the place fairly well maintained and clean, even the restrooms. No complaints about this visit at all.

Good sized zoo for a day outing if you take your time. It all depends on what youre there for... Probably not great for adults, but if you are there for your kids youll have a good time... They dont care that its a small zoo or that some parts are run down. I really enjoyed some of the paths through the woods by some of the larger enclosures. They have plenty of opportunity for kids to explore and run off some steam before a two hour car ride.

We visited the Jackson Zoo yesterday. It has been several years since weve been and it seems since our last visit the zoo has lost alot of the animal exhitbits. It really wasnt much too see. A lot of the exhibits were vacant. Several animals seemed nearly dead. The dino exhibit was the most exciting thing to see. my kids really enjoyed that. I really hope that if we decide to visit again next year that they have made improvements.

I went with some family, including a preschooled age niece. We were disappointed by how run down the place looked. Many areas looked like they were ready to fall apart, with peeling paint and an overall dilapidated appearance. A few of the exhibits no longer had the animals in them, which was also disappointing. That being said, I have no complaints about the staff or about the exhibits that did have animals.

I took my son their for a nice autumn trip. We took pictures outside and came in to see the animals. The zoo itself is well kept and my son enjoyed the trip. I ended up leaving my camera and bag at the zoo. To my surprise, the manager called me and told me she had kept my camera and bag! With friendly people looking out for you, I cannot recommend the zoo any higher.

I went this morning 3/23/16 at around 10:30am. I loved the set up and the fact that they are renovating to make better exhibits soon. However the underwater exhibit had only turtles and otters right now. Loved the price 10.25 to get in and no parking charge. Love it! I walked through in about 2 hours(stopping for pictures and reading everything)

Its nothing like it once was 30 years ago. I only gave it 1 star but it deserves a 0. The place is a dump and the few animals that still exist look old and dirty and miserable. I hate to say it but it needs to be shut down and maybe relocated to a more decent neighborhood also. Very disappointing and we will never go back. - July 28th 2017 -

The Jackson view was very nice. My 15 year old grandson and I went this past Saturday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was not over crowded. It was rustic and it was like walking a nature trail as well. We got some good close up pictures of the animals. Its not a real big zoo but just big enough. We will be going again.

This zoo is great for taking young kids and not dealing with big crowds. This is not the San Diego zoo (also 1/5th the price), it is a small city zoo that is easy to navigate. We take our two year olds about once a month and the love it. They also host fun special events for both kids and adults.
