I like to think myself an aficionado of inexpensive golf courses. Hermann Park while not terrible would not be my first choice of places to play. We went on a Sunday with a 3:00 tee time. The place was about as jam packed as Ive ever seen a course. The line of carts at the first tee was pretty long and we didnt end up teeing off until 3:30. Throughout the rest of the day, it felt like we were in a golf sandwich. It was a case of hurry up and wait for a good portion of the afternoon. Im not terribly good, so I definitely dont like the crowd. You cant really fault them though for a course located in the loop being popular and crowded. Just know before you go. The holes are pretty tightly laced and its a municipal course so theres a lot of errant golf balls and errant golfers trucking out into abutting fairways. Additionally, playing out here always makes me nervous because they have walking trails that go right alongside the fairways. Id rather not worry about hitting a wayward shot into a baby in a stroller. The greens are in pretty pitiful condition. When we played, one of the greens of a Par 3 was so bit up with fungus that they put the hole out in the fairway. On the 18th green I had a long putt opportunity, but unfortunately my lie was obstructed by the rut of what looked like somebody had been doing doughnuts in their cart on the green. The beers are relatively reasonably priced at $3, but the course uses cart girls and they only have one or two. We saw her twice during our four hour round and I would have enjoyed the opportunity to have a few more drinks. On the upside, the course scenery is good and it has good use of bunkers and water. The greens while poorly kept, offer varying slopes for a degree of difficulty. Also the whole thing will run you about $40 normal weekend hours, $30 twilight. Thats not too shabby. I think that there are less expensive, better kept, less crowded courses in town. But Hermann Park isnt the worst place to play and if youre nearby then I wouldnt discourage anybody going. As long as you go into it knowing what to expect, its not too bad.

I enjoy playing at this golf course. I didnt give it 5 starts for two reasons, first out of all the times i have played here (which is around 7) I do not see the cart lady more than twice in 18 holes. Most the time I see her once. The other reason is that I dont like how you do not see the club house again until the 18th hole. So if you want to take a break or get a hot dog after 9 holes you cant without losing your spot and driving the cart past a couple holes. Other than that, as long as you can hit the fairway 80% of the time you should be okay to play here. There isnt really a rough separating one fairway from another, just a line of trees. So expect to see people hitting from your fairway to get back to their hole. There is a lot of water on this course so if you cant hit over water hazards expect to lose balls in the water. Pace of play here really depends on the day. I have been there at times with no group in-front or behind me, and other times when i have had to wait 5-10 min at every hole to tee off. The fairways and greens are regularly maintained. The course itself is not very long so a lot of people tee off the blue instead of white if they have a strong drive. I do not have a strong drive so i stay at the white. They have a free GPS app range finder too. Other than that enjoy the course! Grab a cold one and get bogeying.

After looking around for a place to play while in town on business I chose this course. Upon arriving the course looked like the right choice. But upon entering the club house the employee/manager(assuming the manager) was a rude pompus jerk. First off this is a public course so you shouldnt be rude to your customers. They are paying you wages....... Now to the course. For playing it fairly early in the year. the tees and fairways were not horrible. The greens on the other hand. Are EXTREMELY horrible. I have played numerous courses while in high school and college. I have found these greens to be by far the worst that I have seen. On some greens there was more sand than grass... And once we returned to the club house the same employee/manager continued to carry the same attitude. Therefore this course in my book did and now will always carry horrible rating and I will NEVER be visiting this course again.

Greens are in horrible condition. The employees are rude and have no manners. No one seems to repair their ball marks. Some of the greens are as long as the fringe. The walking trail paths around the course allow runners and walkers to walk onto the course and you have to wait 10 minutes for the last two holes to be clear. For 30 bucks it wasnt worth it. Their practice greens are not trimmed or pressed. Their range has mats and has a starter employee who comes and goes. I went on a Saturday at 2pm to play twilight and got out on my own as a walk on and played in 4 hours. Had 5 putts from within 10 feet for birdie that all hit a ball mark that hadnt been repaired or is so poorly repaired, there was no way for a putt to go in. You get my drift....

Cant speak on the full course, as I have yet to play a full 18, but the driving range and staff are superb. None of the snottiness Ive ran into at other places because my clubs arent top of the line and my swing isnt perfect. Decent prices for a bucket to hit, and bring cash so you dont have to walk all the way to the club house to get your range balls.

First time here just to visit the driving range. Only option is to hit off of the mats, I prefer to have a grass option. Had a great experience with the staff though. Gentleman in the pro shop was nice. When the auto golf ball dispensing machine malfunctioned on payment I had no trouble flagging down an attendant who remedied the problem.

Dont come to Hermann Park on the weekend after theyve aerated the greens because they still charge you full price even when the greens suck. Plus they dont have a junior rate. Plus they wont let you walk even though all we did was sat on a cart all morning and waited for other golfers to play badly.

Decent course... Not surprisingly its very busy on a Saturday but it took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to make it through 11 holes. There were multiple fivesomes and sixsomes that held things up, and the marshall did not seem to care. The driving range is great but I will not be golfing here anymore.

I play at Herman park every week, sometimes more. I find the course relaxing and the scenery is nice. The course is short... If you can hit the ball straight and keep out of the water and the sand traps you can have a Heck of a good round. The staff is friendly and I highly recommend this course.
