Water works park is centrally located in includes some of our best cycling/jogging trails. It is on the eastern end of a string of parks which starts with Walnut Woods State Park to the West. So you can cycle all the way from West Des Moines to scenic Grays lake and downtown Des Moines using Water Works Park. It is low lying and summer concerts sometimes are cancelled due to flooding or swollen soil but thats how it is with parks. If you visit water works try to end up in the Western Gateway to downtown Des Moines and check out the spectacular Pappajohn sculpture park.

Water Works Park & Grays Lake is minutes from Downtown or anywhere in the metro. Here you can spend the day with family or friends picnicking at one of the Pavilions fishing at one of the lakes, walking one of the nature/bike trails, or rent a sailboat or paddle boat at Grays Lake, or just relax in the sun. Dont forget to look for more concerts at Water Works Park summer 2015.

Love it. When we moved to Des Moines, I immediately missed the Bay Trail. Plus I was training for the marathon in the middle of the move. Then I discovered these running trails. In addition, there are a bunch of geocaches all over this park. Fun for everyone.

What kind of security gaurds do you employ who "fear for their life" of a 50 yr old half drunk curfew violator, so they SHOOT AT HIS CAR THEN STICK A GUN IN HIS FACE Are you people mentally challenged at the water park there in Iowa. Dumb ass session!

This is actually an awesome park in the summer. I recommend exploring as much of it as you can. It also serves as a large portion of the Des Moines Marathon in October.

I love going to water works. It feels like you are leaving the city and getting away. We love to have picnics and fly our kites.
