The floors are dirty. No, not a simple "Let me clean this place up" kind of dirty, but a "Let me re-tile the entire floor" kind of dirty. Its cluttered, not much room to move. Their reptile/amphibian room is a little bigger than my closet, with these poor animals living in neglected tanks, stacked up upon each other 3-5 high. The fish are in even worse condition. The labels are misleading, the tanks are cluttered with algae and decorations. The tanks that dont have much algae are overfilled with fish. Most of the tanks have many dead fish in them and one tank in particular has/had an African Lungfish in a tank that is a little bigger than he was. If thats not animal cruelty, I dont know what is.The service was ridiculous. I attempted to get help with a couple of questions from a not-busy-looking-employee only to be greeted with a sharp and rude-sounding tone of "let me finish this first" and the employee walked off. I waited around the SAME SPOT for about 10 minutes (give or take a few), only to give up and walk to the front of the store. Lo an behold, guess who was playing behind the front desk? That employee. Now, before you go and think to yourself "Now wait! He might have been the only one there!" I tell you that all employees wear a Green Tree Pet Center t-shirt. I counted 3 people with that same shirt. If there was a possible rating of a negative and an infinity, I would certainly apply negative infinity rating. This was the worst experience Ive EVER had with ANY establishment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- @Troy OBrien: Thats why you have a 1.7 foot African Lungfish in a 20 gallon tank. These creatures grow up to be 6.6 feet in length. Anyone with knowledge realizes that a fish of that size requires a larger tank than what it currently (as of this writing) resides in. Quite frankly, Im not sure how its able to breathe. And to make matters even worse, there are catfish in there along with it! Just by swimming that lungfish smashes the other catfish into the tank walls. Whatever irrelevant action was done on a completely unrelated site is irrelevant to the service your store provides. Calling someone out publicly to something that your team has done in retaliation due to an action that your team did not like is unprofessional. Honestly, it doesnt truly matter WHERE ON EARTH you get your animals; it could be from the White Houses pond. What matters is the care YOU provide for the animals. Is the animal in good condition when you purchase it? Maybe. Assuming so, then I cannot see a reason for any issue if it is provided for properly. I would not expect an employee (or owner?) to claim to ever receive a single complaint. Bad for business (Oh yeah! We get complaints all of the time!). Frankly, after 39 years of business, to claim that your establishment hasnt received a complaint to date is just plain ignorant. And besides, youre getting complaints ONLINE. You say "We strive in maintaining excellent customer service..." - then make your unhappy customers happy! Make the change necessary to bring them back.

I have to say - I am so disappointed with this store! Ive been a customer here for a while, but recently started going back as I have gotten back into my fish hobby after a pause. First off, let me say - the employees are the most rudest bunch of people Ive EVER encountered in my life. All of the positive reviews on here saying "great customer service" obviously dont stop by this place that often. The first time I went, I spoke to a man named Arthur. I absolutely enjoyed him. He really knew his stuff and helped me so much. I was so excited to go back. Well, I had been back a few more times (on the days he wasnt working) and I encountered the most hateful employees. When I purchased my fish, one of the guys was irritated with me because I picked out two specific fancy goldfish I wanted (in a very small, overstocked tank.) He was annoyed that I wanted the two healthiest looking ones of the bunch. He gave me a few huffs and puffs. The other times I went back, some of the people I spoke to acted like I as an idiot with the questions I asked. One lady in particular kept giving me a snobby, dirty look - and trying to push all of these products on me, instead of just helping out and giving me some information. I dont understand why they were so rude to someone willing to do business with them. It made me so uncomfortable. One day I came out of there with tears in my eyes because one of the much older men I spoke to was EXTREMELY rude to me. I asked him a question about cycling a new tank, and when I was trying to break it down for him (since he acted like he knew nothing about what I was speaking of) he snapped and said "Yeah, I know how it goes!". I was so uncomfortable! I ended up walking out of the door. I will NOT be giving them anymore of my business, ever. Ill travel over to Kentucky before I ever step another foot in their door! Ill also recommend my family and friends elsewhere. Also - their reptile/small animal room was disgusting. I walked in, and turned around and walked right back out. This was such a disappointment.

I have been to this store quite a few times and I always feel like my skin is crawling by the time I leave. Their birds are crammed into cages much to small for the volume of birds in it, the water is always low and beyond filthy and their food dishes are full of empty shells. I asked today about a pair of Lady Gouldian Finches they had available. I had seen both birds a few weeks ago and they did not look very healthy. Today they were even worse yet they were still willing to try and sell me sick animals. I also enjoy fish tanks but I would never buy from here. 70% of the freshwater tanks were riddle with fish carcasses stuck in filters or in the plants of the tanks. I know that fish die and one or two here or there is fine. However, this was not the case. There were upwards of 7 fish per tank dead on average and they had been sitting in the tanks long enough to begin decomposing. The staff is relatively knowledgeable on the fish they carry, however they ignore you unless you approach them most of the time. They did not even know the name of the birds I was inquiring about and that is a red flag for me as well. I normally do not take the time to write reviews but I really think this place needs to take a hard look at how it is doing business and how it is treating the animals it has. I am tempted to report them.

They get a 5 from me. Excellent customer service and knowledge of the animals and fish they sell. People who say the store isnt pretty are wrong and need to realize this is an old building and the buisness has been there for many many years. Their prices on most things are excellent I bough a critter keeper terraium 20 gallon with self locking screen top that has a place for a mini padlock in addition to being self locking. For 55.00 on line it was over a hundred. Their employees are friendly helpful and do care about their customers I watch them help some body change fish filter in a big pump type filter no charge you only get that kind of service these days from smaller buisnesses. Ive been to pet smart more modern but it felt commercial and clinically cold and they were going to refuse to sell me a green anole lizard one time because I was give inns them to a milk snake at the time this is not an endangered lizard and they charge way more than green tree pet. Its my favorite pet store and I hope they will be there for a long time to come.............ps they do sell healthy animals and fish and very much care about the animals they sell......
