The oldest Public Park in San Francisco Buena Vista rewards it vistors with unparalleled views of San Francisco. The park itself is 37 acres of urban forest and home to native wildflowers as well as species of trees from all over the world most placed there as surplus from the early plantings in golden gate park and the SF Botanical Gardens. Buena Vista is home to a surprising diversity of urban wildlife including Red Tailed Hawks, bluejay, squirel, racoon, skunk and most notably a small population of urban coyotes. The park has an off leash dog play area, childrens playground, tennis courts and miles of hiking trails including a wheelchair accessible route to the summit which features a small lawn and incredible views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the northern part of the city. The only real drawback is the lack of restrooms but plan ahead and it is a wonderfully peacefull oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of San Franciscos fast pace and a chance to slow down and relax a bit whether youre a tourist or an SF local

The oldest park in town, with a unique and almost magical atmosphere, be it for the old growth trees that tower over its steep slopes, or the views over the city and the bay you can glimpse at through the vegetation. Recent habitat restoration efforts, still ongoing, have visibly improved the environment, contributing to an even more pleasant visit. On top of that, at least one coyote has taken residence in recent times. Here are a few pictures of the well-fed, gorgeous predator taken just a few feet from the edge of the park, looking from the corner of Buena Vista Ave and Upper Terrace, just about half an hour before sunset, on March 28.

STEEP, STEEP, and the oldest park in SF... pretty cool stuff. I just come here when fate draws me to the haight/ashbury region of town and exhausts me. I like to plop myself down here but to be honest, havent been to the top. Am I lame, or does the secret view of the top inspire me to never climb? Its great to have a park here and kind of makes me feel like it divides haight in a good way..... keep going east and its downtown, keep going west and its the beach!

Sitio típico de San Francisco. Pierde encanto al haber tanta gente que es imposible hacerse una foto sin gente detrás jugando al frisbi o haciendo dosel fotos también

I have lived within a few blocks of this park since 1981. The neighbors, Rec and Park, and SFPD have done an amazing ongoing transformation over the years. In the 80s this park was scary at night, sometimes during the day as well. Now it is re- landscaped, clean, mostly free of campers ( the coyotes may help with this) and the ambiance and views are lovely.

Pretty big park close to Haight Street, with lots of trails and trees. Its a short but steep hike up. You can catch some view of the city between the trees, and there is a tennis court on the south side of the hill. There is also a dog run in the interior of the park and a nice grassy spot in the middle of the park near the summit.

Great little city hike near the famous Haight district. Nestled between upper and lower sections of the neighborhood. Climb to the top for the sense of conquest, but walk back down one level to a lone picnic bench for the best panoramic views, spanning from the Golden Gate Bridge, to the Presidio to downtown and the Bay Bridge.

The highest point, clearest view, most beautiful over look of the entire San Francisco city. A great scenery attraction you dont want to miss if your touring the city. This gorgeous site is a perfect romantic spot which includes a bench to relax upon as you watch all the city lights wake up as the sun turns in for the night.

Mangiato bene a prezzi onesti. Situato in una zona artistica di San Francisco rende piacevole il guardare la strada mentre si mangia. TV allinterno

Lots of walking paths. Lots of stairs too. Wonderful place to nature worship. Great views. Just stay away from above the tennis courts on a Sunday night unless you wanna see some weird stuff. Oh whoever ordered the "Drunk Stump" cut down is a huge jerk. That thing was awesome. I fell off of it before. I know.

A climb of stairs at the entrance of the park will transport you from the bustling streets of the Haight to a quiet, tranquil enclave of the city. Atop the park, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay make the short but steep hike well worth the effort. A must visit for all.

The play set is a little out dated but still a nice clean park to go to. Since there is sand just pay attention just like any other park with sand for broken glass, ect. Love that its in the middle of a forest haha the hike up to the top gives you an amazing view of the city. So peaceful.

I was planning on going to Golden Gate Park for my weekend dose of nature and stumbled upon Buena Vista Park. It felt like stepping into a different world. The park is situated on a hill and there are quite a few trails and not very crowded on a Sunday. Definitely a hidden gem!

My friends and I walked their dog here and we met another dog, who I think was named Frank. Or rather, thats what his human called him. Sadly we may never know his true name until we set aside our petty human squabbles and master the noble canine language. Beautiful park.

Absolutely beautiful park, feels like you are hiking out of the urban sprawl. Unfortunately the city has allowed it to become a safe harbor for gutter punks and other neer-do-wells. 5 stars if you didnt have to see someone squatting in a bush when you turned a corner.

Plenty of trails to walk around and most are steep to get your exercise in. Amazing view at the top, too. Theres a playground near the top as well. My only issue is the many "homeless" people that seem to hang around one corner of the park. Otherwise, nice park.

Subi y los árboles me tapaban la vista. Solo se veía el Golden gate de refilón. Hay otros miradores mucho mejores

Feels good to run up here through Duboce/Lower Haight. It is super hilly, but moderately scenic. Also a pretty cool dog park up near the top. Overall, I think I prefer some of the other parks in the area, but this one gets some ups for the location.
