Carkeek Park is a family friendly, multi-use park. Many hiking trails surround the park as it is in a gully. It has a model aircraft use area as well as trails along Carkeek Creek and a fish hatchery. Large lawn areas for hundreds of picnic users as well as a play area for kids. A larger well maintained bathroom and bonfire areas are also used frequently. Trails lead to a pedestrian overpass that take you safely over the BNSF Railway. If you choose to cross over the railway be extra cautious as the BNSF folks have welded all the rails together and there is no longer the clicking noise as trains rush along the corridor at speeds of 50 mph plus! Always cross the Railways safely! Though many like to walk the rails to photograph scenery or graffiti along the rails, the RR Police may cite you for criminal trespass. There have been multiple deaths along the stretch from Golden Gardens North to Richmond Beach from careless individuals walking on the rail road tracks, so, stay off! Other than that warning and no dogs allowed on the beach, this is one of my favorite destinations in North Seattle. Tons of sea life, wildlife, wind surfers and great scenery from sunsets to sailboat races and the Olympic Mountains.

This park is so beautiful and is quintessential Seattle, with beautiful views and a fun beach to visit. The park and playground are fun for kids of all ages, and if youre lucky, the bubble man will be there blowing bubbles and entertaining all the kids. Its great fun to go searching for salmon returning upstream in the right season. The trails are great. My only misgivings are: 1) parking can be a real bear here; and 2) the beach if off-limits to dogs, which is totally fine, but then a lot of people break the rule, which seems unfair. Itd be nice to see the rule enforced better if its going to be in place.

Family friendly, multi tiered park with large open grassy areas for picnics and volleyball, childrens playground, and covered picnic shelters (that you can reserve through Seattle Parks). When its sunny, this park is filled to capacity. Lower park includes stream with salmon runs. And the beach area, accessible only by stairs, is popular among the sailboarding crowd. Although it has some handicap parking (<10 spaces), this park has only a couple of mostly flat trails; many others are steep or rocky. The scenic water view from the main park area is unparalleled.

We love this park and how it has something for everyone. The kids have ample space to play in the grass or on the swings, etc at the large park above the beach by the main parking lot. Easy access to the beach on the covered bridge over the train tracks. Beach has a mix of sand and rocks. Very large and beautiful with magnificent views of the Olympics, especially at sunset! The trails are great with small inclines that really turn out to be a good workout. Over 3 miles for a basic loop but tons of options. Easy to find your way around and hard to get lost.

Seattle has some the best parks in the United States: Golden Gardens, Discovery, Seward, and Magnuson, to name a few. Carkeek is my favorite. Where else can you bask in the glory of the Puget Sound, in the company of old growth forest and the bustle of a passing freight train. The built meets the natural. You cross a bridge to the beach, where there are incredible views of boats, wildlife, and the Olympics. For hikers, there are miles of trails to explore. Bring sunscreen; youre going to want to stay for a while.

What a great park! It is truly one of Seattles gems. It really has it all: hiking trails, playgrounds, barbecue grills, shelters for rent, beach access, trains, an old and still active fruit and nut orchard, a creek where salmon spawn and multiple grassy meadows. Our family loves it! Parking can be tricky during low tides, which are amazing, or on really nice summer days. Park at one of the many trail heads if your willing to hike in. The path is fairly easy and beautiful.

When its not busy, and theres parking, this place is great. Theres a pretty ridiculous long winding path if you go by car, but its worth it. The open, grassy area is great, and the beach is pretty nice. I wouldnt swim here, due to the warnings about there being a sewage overflow in the area, but its a scenic beach regardless. The only complaints i have: Parking can be impossible to find, there arent enough trees that are good for setting up a hammock.

Wonderful series of trails, great views at sunset, some really nice open space, great place to watch salmon migrating, sand pipers, seals. Home to Seattles oldest apple orchard, Pipers orchard, with 100+ year old apple tress. Art in the park starts in late July, Apple festival in Pipers Orchard last Saturday in Sept usually. Look for "Friends of Pipers Orchard." Check out the visitors center with a lot of info on events and chances to volunteer.

Fantastic gem of a park, that has a bit of everything for everybody: beach, lawn, playground and the most picturesque picnic area in the city! Tucked away in north Seattle, it has spectacular views of the Olympic mountains and Puget sound. Definitely less hectic than other beach parks in the city. Great strides have been made to restore the outflow of Pipers creek and salmon return each year to repeat their unique cycle of life. Enjoy!

This park is always fun to go to, even in the winter. Its fun to play on the beach, on the big open fields, or take a hike on the many trails. There is also a gimmicky slide shaped like a salmon that Ive always loved (even though I can no longer fit into it). The playground is also quite big. if you havent taken your kids to this park yet, you need to do so. It will likely become one of you and your kids favorite parks.

With beach access and several trails for light hiking, Carkeek ranks high on my list of Seattle urban parks. Summer weekends are mobbed, so best to go during the week if crowds and barbecue smoke bother you. My favorite part is Piper Orchard, a 19th century apple orchard of rare heirlooms. Check online for the annual Festival of Fruit for tastings and other events.

This is my new favorite place to take my children. Great wide trails, some flat and great for long stroller walk with all and some incline trails for just my older children and I, all in nice forested cover with winding creeks. Easy access to a long beach, nice play structures and an open flat field round out this park as a great place for anyone!

Park with lots of space and multiple features (trails, beach, open grassy areas) thats great for everyone. Wonderful for families with small children. Picnic tables, benches are interspersed throughout the park. Toilet facilities available. Ample parking (different areas) though it can get crowded on sunny days.

Our trail trip was great. These trails are great for jogging, walking the dog, beginner hikers, or families who want to hike. I went with my five year old son who had a blast. We went through every trail and still had energy after our hike. I highly recommend these trail for a mildly short get away from the city.
