AMC Hoffman Center 22 is a popular movie theater located in Alexandria, Virginia. It offers a variety of movie experiences, including standard screenings and IMAX. However, it's worth noting that the theater has been facing challenges related to customer service and facility management, which have been highlighted in multiple reviews.

They really have some seriously slow concession stands. I never get anything for myself unless I have free popcorn and soda coupons but since Im married, I spend time in the line regardless because the lady gets what she wants. This last time I was there, there were eight people working at the concession stand (the downstairs one because I think the upstairs is always closed) but only 2 taking orders. The rest were cooking or cleaning. Cleanliness is important but when theres a massive line not moving, why not knock that down to zero before getting everything wiped down. There also seemed to be no value in speed of service. Yes I could have arrived earlier to make sure I made the movie on time but should I budget in time waiting in line when the line work isnt nearly as efficient as it should be? If you see a need, fill it. I think I saw a manager type of person walking around because she had a clipboard and was checking stock of some items but even though we made eye contact and she gave me a face of "I know", she didnt do anything to speed up the line. I have no idea if she was in management though and couldnt make out her name tag but can anyone man the counters? Maybe they arent trained for it. I didnt order hot food but the guy next to me wanted to and they said everything was 7-10 minutes from being made. Nothing was pre-made and ready except for some pretzel bites. Why are things not being made and ready? Probably to cut waste and costs but with the prices charged, I think they could have some pizza or hot dogs ready. The seats and movie experience is good though. Just come early if you are going to want to buy snacks or eat before.

My boyfriend & I wanted to catch a 10:00 pm movie. As always we left out earlier than need to be to get there on time to catch the previews & grab snacks if need to be. This theater has gone downhill. It took us about 20 minutes to find parking because everything was under construction , special restrictions or it charged $7 to park (where we typically park before they made it mandatory to pay for parking). The movie theater looks like it was closed to be honest. It was yellow tape around , cement pebbles everywhere , & trash. We had to ask a couple officers for the parking for the AMC theater. When we finally found it at 9:55 we went in to watch the movie. When it was time to leave the parking garage , we had to pay $4.50 to leave which was not indicated anywhere & was ridiculous. When we buzzed for help, it took the man on duty 5 minutes to attend to us. When he cane he had a attitude & tried to belittle our intelligence. He got smart various of times in this 3 minute span , which I then started to refuse to pay the $4.50. Weve been through enough tonight & that was icing in the cake. We ended up not paying the $4.50 & he took it as far to say"Next time you will pay, dont come if you dont know how to read". I WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THIS THEATER OR OUTLET EVER AGAIN & I WILL BE SPREADING THE WORD TO OTHERS.

Saw Avatar last night and was quite let down by AMCs interpretation of IMAX. It was a standard theater screen, not the 72 IMAX, the image quality was really awful too, and the screen was either deformed or damaged as there was a bowl-shaped nipple toward the center of the screen that was visible through the previews and the movie. The sound was absolutely terrible, more like going to a hip-hop club with poorly tuned sound, the bass was distorted and boomy, even during quiet dialog, with the mids and highs crunchy and overbearing, causing almost immediate ear fatigue, many in the audience complained while filing out after the movie. Also, the theater itself appeared to be pretty poorly run, with many of the ticket kiosks out-of-order or out of paper to print tickets. The staff was not friendly at all (but hey, this is the D.C. area...), and there was seemingly nothing to be done about the packs of wild youth running amok. Also, everyones IMAX 3D glasses were so dirty that the crowd were frantically trying anything to clean them up before the movie started, to no avail. Im usually a pretty good sport, but after paying $32 for 2 tickets, Id expected more. Well never go back.

Come here a couple times. Pretty standard theater, nothing special in particular. Yesterday the main parking lot was closed, so it took us a few extra minutes to find parking. Once we did, I got a couple cups of coffee and went to our movie. The coffee was cold (not even a little warm), and they didnt have any hot coffee, so I asked for a refund. That process took about 15 minutes and caused me to miss the beginning of the movie. EDIT: Knocked off another star because I came back a couple weeks later to watch a movie and had another poor experience. The movie theater started out OK but the theater slowly grew warmer and warmer. Within a half hour I was down to my bottom layer t shirt, and everyone else was stripping down layers as well. I had beads of sweat running down my forehead and back for the entire second half of the movie. Everyone was complaining about the temperature and fanning themselves with whatever they had. It was maybe 85 degrees. I couldnt find any staff to tell after the movie let out at 2330 so I just let the security guards know. This was in April, it was 55 degrees outside, so Im not sure why it was so warm.

If youre going on the weekend, this will be the worst theater experience of your life. I went to watch Bridesmaids on May 28th around 6pm. However, the movie was starting at 6:25, so by the time we got to the register, the attendee told us there were four seats left - we would never find them. Strike one for the management deciding to reduce a top-selling movie down to one theater on its second weekend. So, we bought tickets for a 7:50 showing, ate dinner, came back early with tickets in hand, walked up to the ticket collector and we were greeted with this from a large woman, "Yall trying to skip the line?" Before I started shouting obscenities, my girlfriend explained that we already had tickets. I was so angry, I stormed out to cool off and went back in to a different ticket collector. Once we found the theater, we were forced to sit right in front of the screen due to multiple people saving multiple seats, not just one, I mean three to four at a time. I enjoyed the movie, but I decided to boycott this theater until their personnel and management do some adjustments. Or maybe I just wont come back.

Over the last four years, this has been the theater I most frequented. There are plenty of alternative theaters, and more and more you can just watch current release films at home, so the fact that the large surface parking lot I used at the theater is now closed and youre forced to use a cramped multi-level "PAY" parking lot farther away is a game changer. Worse part of it is it took 10 minutes to get into the garage due to the literal gridlock at the entrance and exit. Getting out was just as ugly. While I sat there, I noticed 1) that the parking attendant was not at all helpful and in fact rude to people requiring assistance, and 2) that the exit pay machines were improperly installed so that people had to try and get out of their vehicle in order to insert tickets and credit cards. Frankly, the garage is poorly designed for the large influx and outflow demand of a movie theater with 22 screens. Id suggest free parking for theater goers, or the parking situation will affect business. In addition, if my wife and friends notice the reviews here about mice in the theater - Ill never be back.
