We gave five stars because while we refuse to attend any future after zoo hours events, we enjoy the zoo during the normal hours. As far as the night events or the members only events, we tried them all, and we were miserable every time. They close down 2/3 of the zoo and with the extra foot traffic, it is literally elbow to elbow. We attended wildlight event recently and we were a little disappointed with the members 2.00 discount (only Sun-Thur BTW). Some people were shoving through the crowds, and one man was actually smoking in the zoo (GROSS!!!). In the indoor playground, some kids were running wild and it was just too busy for parents to properly watch kids. My son was actually pushed down the stairs by the slide (three feet from me) and while he wasnt injured, my heart stopped. A friends one year old was in the crawler area had her hand stepped on by another parent, and some kids were too old to be in there pushing the younger ones around. The members night had lines that were a joke. We drove an hour and a half to get there with traffic (usually takes 20 minutes), and we were only at the zoo 10 minutes, the only thing to show was wasting gas to get there. Again, 2/3 of the zoo was closed off and we were miserable. While I understand the reasons why the zoo is closed off, and for some the event is fun, it just wasnt for us. Others who dont do well in crowded places should be aware that these events are CROWDED. During the day, we LOVE the zoo. We are members and it is worth every penny. We go at least once a month, but weekly in the nicer weather. My husband doesnt go as often since my son and I go during the week when he works. We plan on renewing our membership for only myself and son. We dont mind paying half the general admission for my husband since he doesnt go as much. The information given by the zoo staff is great! I love that they have people set up to answer questions about the animals. Food is expensive, but there is a lot to pick from in the food court. You can pack a lunch (we do that) and eat it in the picnic areas.

Prior to a recent trip, wed only been up here once and it was for a wedding so there was minimal looking at monkeys. This time, with most of the family in tow comma we had a wonderful time and learned exactly what Woodland Park Zoo is all about! As we were walking in I found myself wondering what it must be like to actually live in urban Seattle and have a zoo a block or two away from your house. Im sure theres times when loud animals can be heard on a soft quiet spring evening. Either way, when we came in on a nice spring day the whole place was lovely. Parking is at a premium here, and while they dont charge a ton for it, if you can find parking nearby it seems like that is probably the better option. We got there about a half hour after they opened and most of the lots were full by that point. Luckily, we found some parking across the street. Tickets for something like $15 or $20 per person, but if you order online there are a few different options which will get you discounts. I think we used our Triple A card and it got us like 20% off. My wife would tell you it was like we made $15 that day! We were all really surprised with how big this zoo was. They have been sectioned off into different regions where animals would be found. Its big enough that you could probably spend 3 days here and not actually see everything, but in the four hours we had we managed to see a good amount. The primate house was fun and something that all the kids liked. The big animals were plentiful - the favorites were the zebras, elephant, ostriches and bears. We didnt make it to the area where they had otters, but Im sure that would have been nice - theyre like the hipsters of the sea! An interesting and unexpected find was the food court. It was surprisingly excellent and a really nice place to stop during the middle of our little Adventure. Given we only saw about a third of this place while there, were excited to explore more in the future. Well worth your time to check out.

Lets start with the ticket prices - probably some of the most reasonable that youll come across. $19.95 for adults and $12.25 for kids older than 2 (0-2 are free). If you have AAA, you can get 20% off if you buy them AHEAD OF TIME online (you dont have to print them out - you can show the tickets on your phone). Parking at the zoo is $6/car, which is very reasonable - or you can park on the street like we did. We were only 2 blocks away, which was quite convenient! We didnt realize you can bring in your own food/drinks and have a picnic lunch. They have a ton of great space with picnic tables for you to use (Ive attached a picture of one). If you dont bring you own, they have several cafeteria options. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the food for the price! Drinks were pricey ($3.25 for 20oz diet coke,), but the lunch entrees were very reasonably priced! The pesto chicken panini was around $8, a chicken caesar salad was about $9 (see pictures). The food was really good and we wouldnt hesitate to recommend it! I recognize that this zoo is not mammoth like the san diego zoo, but it is a great size for younger kids! The exhibits are well done and they have great vantage points for many of the animals. During out trip, we enjoyed the orangutans, bears, and penguins the most! The giraffes were also very cool! If you get the chance, check this place out! Its a great attraction and its good to get your kids outdoors!

The Woodland Park Zoo is easily one of the best zoos Ive ever been to. The zoo is continually updating the park in order to give guests the best experience possible. With the more recent updates, theyve upgraded the older exhibits to more modern designs that benefit the animals and guests alike. The zoo is open year round, and is very fun to visit in the "off season". On rainy days, you can still enjoy yourself with the multiple indoor exhibits, and I would recommend visiting the Asian rain forest when its raining to really get the rain forest feel. And one of my most memorable trips to the zoo was after a snow storm: there were very few guests, and seeing zebras and lions in the snow is incredible. Zoomazium is a great place to visit with kids. It has an area for toddlers and an area for older kids. In addition, the have the Nature Exchange where kids and adults can trade items like shells and pine cones for similar items. And if you get a chance, visit the many different keeper talks in the park, I especially like the elephant talk and the raptor show. Oh! I almost forgot, if you get to the park early enough, you can see what I call "The Siamang Show". Every day, the two siamangs enter the outdoor part of their exhibit and do their territorial song that involves hoots and screams and swinging through the trees. Can you tell I have an annual pass? :)
